Adkins Interview

Hope we stick by him as I believe when he's got the players in who will work for him then we will go places.

Players out of contract aren't getting their wish and getting a contract renewal, hence why they won't play for him. Getting a new manager won't change a thing until the majority of the current lot are gone. Let's give him till Jan 2017 before we start shouting him out. The board need to back him this summer. UTB!
I do think he needs to find 5 or 6 players who can play with the younger players and drop the rest out of the squad.

He simply can't trust several of the current squad to put in a shift. Desperate times

It appears those who want to be angry with Adkins just use these threads as a vent.

To put some balance on it. If he turned around and said they were all shit then he has just lost any shred of respect from everyone. If you read between the lines it's clear what he us saying. Big cull in the summer coming up. We can argue over symantics but if he doesn't change things big time this summer he will be gone by October latest. This season was clearly a bigger task than we all thought. I still think if Clough had been allowed to carry on he would have done a better job but we are where we are.

One thing we shouldn't be looking to do is ripping out the manager and starting over yet once more.
so come out and be honest about it. the reason he is losing (lost) the fans is because he sounds like a political spin doctor. also.. putting on the young lads at that point was reckless and borderline unprofessional

i don't buy this the players know they aren't getting new contracts so have downed tools.

McEveley, Collins, Edgar and Cuvelier are the only players not under contract here next season that started tonight. I don't think you can accuse any of them of a lack of effort or heart tonight. Even Flo who had a poor game.

It's a cheap argument IMO. The real problems are much greater. A lot of the gutless individuals are still under contract here next season, and who the fuck is going to buy them from us?

I missed this one, he sounds like he's sick of making excuses for players and is starting to publicly lose his patience.

Tonight the only two players who started that were Adkins' signings were Sharp and Edgar. To me it's pretty clear that the majority aren't playing for him for whatever reason.

It sounds like a lame excuse that they aren't his players but it's a fact. Too many players aren't good enough or have a shit attitude.

Roll on the summer, clear out the shit and let's start again. I'm still backing Adkins for what it's worth!

that's what I thought. No more Mr Nice Guy now time to fucking deal with it one way or another. Be nice to have a few more points on the board, cos we are not safe yet, but at that point I would consider dropping the fucking lot and playing the U21s

They're on a great run too. On the two occasions I've seen them this season, they've shown more desire to perform and win on a Monday lunchtime than I've seen from these twats all season.

Last two games, Coventry and Scunny. Stick them all on. It'd be a great 'fuck you' to this excuse of a first-team.

Exactly and one of them is only here on loan.

Maybe some of the players don't like the way Clough had been sacked and are staging some sort of protest but then that doesn't explain their failure last season.

What was the alternative though mate. Connor fucking Sammon and Louis Midget Reed.

Don't hold your breath. He gave a similar one after Shrewsbury I think it was. The following interview he was immediately back tracking and protecting the pathetic set of players he has again.
I think he maybe has cone to the conclusion about some players! Get them out before they get him out

I know you are joking and making light of the Adkins interview . To me it's the best , clear , straight interview I have heard all season without any spin or bullshit . What Adkins says to the microphone and the players in private will be completely differant . To me the players are starting to get a fucking , being told in no uncertain terms to earn there wages whilst still here . Adkins brought the kids on tonight to tell certain señor professionals they could not be trusted or were seen as good enough. Theses kids will not play a part as first team regulars , but the gloves seem to be off , and Adkins ain't going to walk . Some say due to money , I say he is not a quitter . Fuck theses players and let's stick with Adkins . I am telling you , the alternative is Ian Holliway type .
Theses players are not making us united , they are dividing all and sundry.

UTB

It was always a potential problem: the players out of contract not committing to the team. A few weeks ago Adkins said "I made it clear it's in everyone's best interests to get us promoted" and he was right.

Some have taken that on board. Baxter and we seem to think Coutts* haven't.

Maybe the youngsters can play without fear, but after tonight promotion would take a miracle.

*We'll look daft if it was someone else.

It'd be a great 'fuck you' to this excuse of a first-team.

That's what today's subs said to me.

And on that note, I like the look of Whiteman purely because he'll be a proper athlete in a year or two. I just hope he's got the footballing skills to back that up.

Like I said in another thread - Garde at Villa played his U21s against the first team behind closed doors to see what would happen and the U21s won 3-0. We should do that and see what happens ( I could hazard a guess).

Good point regarding the subs. I think there was also a signal of intent at Doncaster when he started with Reed and Calvert-Lewin.
The signs show that he's ready to break up the core of this team, which I very much welcome.

Some of our youngsters have been in form so Id expect our first team to get their arse handed to them.

I would start putting our under 21's out.

I actually thought of Villa when you mentioned the U-21s.
We should do it too, in front of a paying audience preferably!

Agree 100% with that I think it's got to the stage where it's them or him
Maybe we will see a different Nigel from now.Hes protected some of them till now, but lets

If the players didn't want to play for him before, calling them out in public isn't really going to help the situation, is it?
Criticising your players in public is the last act of a desparate man - even the Special One didn't get away with it.

Good post. McEverely and Collins put their all in every game. Whatever their footballing merits they do their best. Cueliver is coming back from a major injury and clearly wants to impress for the sake of his own career. Edgar seems laid back but maybe thats the way he plays

It goes way deeper than the players not caring cos they are out of contract. There are players still under contract next season with questionable attitudes but more importantly there are players contracted for next season who are simply out of their depth at dealing with playing for a club like ours in division 3.

Well he's protected the players in the media and it's got him absolutely no where!

That reads like one player wouldn't adhere to the formation. So instead of hauling him off, he changed the formation to try and accommodate him.

Surely not?
If there was someone who wouldn't play the system I'd suggest Done. He seemed to pop up right wing on a counter attack and then hung around up top for a bit and drifted back out to the right. Then everyone else shuffled into something resembling 4-2-3-1.

Fairly honest appraisal of the game and the mess we are in.

Didn't say 3 goals in the last 8 games in this league is utterly pathetic and the players should be ashamed of themselves if this is their New Year push for promotion.

Also didn't say it's now less than 10 weeks to the end of the season when we can wave a fond "fuck off" to many of the useless tossers.

He should have finished on this point. He knows you should always finish on a positive note.

Coutts in under contract so should be committed. As mentioned above, only 4 players who played tonight are out of contract and at least two of them can never be faulted for their commitment whilst another one is fighting save his career.
