First this........ "We are pleased to welcome West Ham United defender Leo Chambers to the club on an initial month's loan"
And now this..... "The U's have made their second signing of the day, with Nathan Oduwa signing on loan from Tottenham Hotspur."
If Colchester can get Premiership loanees why can't we?

Chalk and cheese . They want survival , we want promotion . Who is to say those signings are to make apath of difference . If we had made those signings the balloon would go up with , who the fuck are they , and what are we doing signing unknowns who may not perform straight away . A balancing act for the blades . Give Adkins a chance in signing players.

Would they be loans for "Premiership" loans sake?
If they turn out to be John Cofie-esque, who'd be hung out to dry & who'd be first to state "like I said before/all along".

We're shit, there's " room" for improvement but there are limits, maybe Colchester will now stay up maybe not. Fuck em.

It's a gamble. They might pick up a Cofie OR they might pick up a Coady who played a prominent part in a number of games for us.
 
Current recruitment policy is any new players need to go straight into the first team and make a difference.

Seems like a good policy to me.

Do either of these players fit the bill?

That said, it would be great to see a couple of dynamic youngsters tearing up Division 3 for 93 days - maybe they're out there, and headed here.

Let's see.

Has Chris Porter been in your gaff lately? Maybe he could shed some light? Actually as others have said, what state is our transfer committee or whatever it's called in? From that "interview" with Phipps the other week on RS sounded like we don't have a functioning process in place at all.
 
But Coady was completely different to these 2 signings , he was already known about and spoke very highly of from what he had already done at Liverpool . Although signing younger players is always a gamble it was a relatively smaller gamble with Coady , and just a crying shame for us the board did not see fit enough to make it permanent !! If ever a player and a club were a good fit ........ Ah well , as ever UTB

Geography possibly plays a part here. They can probably stay in the area of their parent club while playing for Colchester. But who the fuck are they and are they any good? If just signing Premiership youth players on loan got you places we would all be at it.

Can't really see the point of throwing rocks at the club on this when there are so many other things more obviously wrong right now.
 



It's not really about if they're any good or not, it's about how laughable our club as become. Owners investing trillions, the team is crap and we can't afford to sign anybody. :rolleyes:
 
Because theyre located in Essex? Can probably commute home most days. They're only youngsters who probably prefer to be closer to London or maybe Colchester are rock bottom and cant attract any better and these guys could be the next John Egan, John Cofie or Michael O'Halloran who incididently we signed from NORTHERN PL clubs, probably because we were located near by.
 
Ni idea what these players are like and location can make a huge difference, but it's patently ridiculous that we aren't looking to loan an attacking wide man given that's what we've been missing all season.

I agree about Coady ( the best thing Weir did) but he was looking at the exit door at Liverpool and I think might have signed for us if we had gone up. I have seen it referred to several times that he wanted Championship level or better, but it is questionable how hard we tried on that - Clough thought he had the bargain of the century with Wallace I think and didn't pursue it other than an initial enquiry.
 
Due Diligence people, Due Diligence. We can't be just signing players, we need to spend months deliberating over their family tree in the hope that we don't get another Ched. Don't you people know anything?

I don't know if those two are any good, but what I do know is that young player after young player turn up at other League One clubs and make big impacts, while we're nowhere to be seen competing for their signature.

Attacking players in particular seem to do well, or at least they're the ones who get noticed most. Basically the sort of exciting players we've been lacking for God knows how long, including this present moment. But hey - 'we've got young players in our academy' haven't we - not that the geniuses on our 'technical board' will know a thing about any of them individually. Not that they'll realise academy players have barely contributed 5 goals for us in 5 years (Maguire!). Not that they'll realise we haven't produced any decent attacking players for quite a long time.

Are we too big to take a low cost little gamble on a quick young winger from a PL side or something?
 
Oduwa had been playing on loan at Rangers...so its not as if Spurs arent willing to send youngsters out further North than the Watford Gap!! 1 goal and 5 assists for them in 15 appearances..promising but then Scottish Championship compared with League 1 is difficult to weigh up.

Young player after young player also sign for League One clubs and do fuck all!

It's easy to point to the few successes each season and say "why aren't we signing players like that?" but it's obviously not as simple as ringing up Man U and signing any young player who will then be an instant sensation. Loans like John Cofie and Michael O'Halloran etc prove this.

Indeed, but there are more than enough successful ones to make you question why we've so rarely gone down that route. Especially when we're more than willing to loan older players on big wages.

Do we know anything about these young players Mr Foulkes, Colchester are about doomed so they arnt going to make much difference there.
The loan clubs are probably just getting them out for experience,if they were any good at this stage they wouldn't be going to a team at the bottom of div1 .Also clubs down south tend to send there young players out to clubs in and around the London area it's easier to monitor there progress that way.
But of course some take every opportunity to slag the club, are we really interested in totally unknown academy prospects?.Adkins has stated he is looking for players who will make a difference, these 2 lads are probably not that good at this stage (would they go to a team who are floundering if they were ?). Come on give Adkins a bit of slack he says they are after loans! I beleave him ,why would he lie ,it would just add to the pressure he is under.
