"In general, our player recruitment has been poor. That’s not a comment on individual players. Just, if you look at the situation and the spend, in a general sense. It’s something everyone here is looking to improve and steps are being taken to do that."
I'd love to know what, exactly.
8 million each this year?
That's 16 million
plus gate receipts - That's at least 3 million and probably more
plus Man Utd gate receipts/TV money - that's a million, isn't it?
plus transfer income - Murphy was over a million
That must be over 20 million.
Our wage bill isn't that high.
If 8 million each is right, and there is no bank borrowing - what on earth are we spending the cash on?
I'm baffled. Can anyone enlighten me?

Are we still paying off sacked managers in those figures or would they have already been written off - Clough, Wilson, Weir(???)

Hmmm, unconvincing.
Where has this 16 million quid been spent?
Why are we refurbishing behind the scenes when the squad is so shit?
Adkins said at the start of the season that our wage bill was 6th highest, McCabe says highest, they can't both be right.
Buy fewer players, that means fewer shit players overall. Simple really!![]()
I did wince when I saw he said that he's bought promotion in January 2006. He did put money in that season, fair enough, but look what he paid for:
Bruce Dyer (free)
Gary Flitcroft (free)
Deano (free)
Horsfield (1.1 million)
Akinbiyi (1.7 million)
Didn't get a lot for his money, did he? All that money and those wages for 4 goals. Wow, that was almost as bad a window as January 2007.
You could also argue that Warnock had to settle for the Akinbiyi and Horsfield because McCabe wasn't prepared to meet Cardiff's asking price for Cameron Jerome – a player that would have been useful then for the promotion bid, but also after that in the Premier League. £3m rising to £4m is what he went for in the summer – the highest bid we had rejected was £2.4m according to Jerome's agent at the time.
Jerome and Hulse up front in the Premier League? We might have stayed up with that.

A few ideas of running costs:
1. The new pitch is the obvious one.
2. Transfer fee instalment payments eg Brayford's fee was £1.5m maybe paid over 3 years at £500k per year. A few other players could add up to a fair bit each year.
3. Agent fees.
4. Academy running costs
5. Stadium running costs
6. Non football staff salaries
Having never looked into our accounts in any detail I don't really know, but one thing I'm certain of is that running a football club ain't cheap so I can believe what McCabe is saying. But I having not seen the evidence I ain't taking his word as gospel!
I wouldn't dispute the running costs. But the point is why they've put £16 million in and not let the manager strengthen the squad further in Jsnuary. Even with the claimed loss of £8million this year, total losses arent at £26 million, the amount it seems has been put in
Again, wonder how accurate Shirlds quote is?
What he should say is, Well above the Normal Levels, and here are the figures to prove itKM: In the main, on new players. Simple. That’s where it’s gone. On too many players, too many transfer fees and too many agency fees paid well above the normal levels.
What exactly is he saying here? What is the implication?
I think you're missing my point. He's almost accusing someone unnamed at the club of fraud. What he should say is, Well above the Normal Levels, and here are the figures to prove it
