Wears tights gloves and a woolly hat when it's 16 degrees centigrade .(Crewe ) says it all really

Seems Freeman was dropped from the Pompey squad yesterday. He had a terrible debut last week by all accounts but to be dropped from the first 18 all together is a strange one

He's not very good...

I'd describe him as one of those players who is 6.5 out of 10 every week - sometimes you'll get a 4/10 and sometimes an 8/10. Let's not forget he's also still fairly young so I think he's a great find for Pompey

Not wishing to be overly pedantic but if he is 6.5 every week you won't ever get a 4 or an 8 out of him:).

I'll always remember Freeman as the key character in one of my favourite refereeing balls up of all time.

He tackled a guy in the penalty area, the ref gave a penalty and sent him off. The crowd went more bonkers than you can possibly imagine, cue referee consulting linesman and cancelling the penalty and the red card. He then gave a goal kick when it should have been a corner.

Freeman? whats he like? ....average

Brentford at BDTBL in 13/14 and all credit to the ref for being big enough to change his mind.

He saw the tackle from the back and it might have looked bad, but for once the useless bastard with his flag stitched to his sock, found a spine. Credit to all, even the Brentford players who initially wanted to 'appeal' but got with the plan.

Do you have second and third refereeing 'balls ups'?

gives penalty in error
sends player off in error
is dug out of terrible hole he's dug for himself by linesman
gives goal kick in error

Peschisolidos winner against palace in the league cup 2002/2003 is up there, about 5 yards offside if I remember. Can't recall Warnock complaining about the ref that night.

Can't think of any others off hand, it's not something I keep a list of

What about that other Brentford game that we drew ?(3-3 i think) and 3 were sent off and 3 penalties given.

But how many jumped up wank referees have you sen that wouldn't even consult their assistants?

Credit to the bloke for at least accepting he was wrong.

Graham Poll anyone?

Can't argue with that , but it won't be on any FA training video titled, "How to be a top ref" any time soon.

Sadly you are correct.

Show them you are 'strong' and don't be influenced by the home crowd. How many up and coming refs have had their biggest game at BDTBL and been determined to show how 'firm' they can be.

Wankers the lot of them, but sadly needed, especially with so many even wankier cheating diving tosspot players.

Another game of Lets play big up the crap signings
He managed a 4/10 on his debut, then dropped from the squad for the next game.
Reading the comments on the pompey forum were like easily one of the worst debuts ever seen. 4/10

Another utter crap Clough signing, who want ever be worth anything, wont ever play in a higher division and won't ever earn a higher wage than what Clough gave him.

And this is a player who has been one of our best players on numerous occasions this season.

I will give you that Brownie but going forward he could be impressive ,he should easily play in the league below ,especially further forward.

I think he would be fine in the league below, either as a right back or a wing back on the right.

Just don't think he was quite up to League 1 standard

Strangely when he was out of his comfort zone filling in at left back the season previous he was much more disciplined and played well defensively.

You are probably right there as he looked better down that side, wasn't that side he was playing down at the Brentford game where he got sent off and called back.

I always think that for a defender, defensive work is the priority, it is all well and good players overlapping and bombing down the flanks, but if they don't have someone dropping back to cover them, they leave a huge hole down that side.

I agree ,I also like my centre halves to be hard bastards more interested in stopping than playing. Maybe the discipline thing is a hint at the difference between Clough and Adkins ? Adkins seems a lot less in control to me.

I don't think that Adkins is as confrontational as Clough was, but I think he is ruthless, especially if you look at the way he has chopped about a dozen players from club.

Back on to centre halves. I watched the Arsenal v Leicester game earlier and was very very impressed with their centre half pairing of Wes Morgan and Robert Huth. They did the basics very well and weren't afraid to put their bodies on the line. Morgan is little more that a journeyman defender and Huth has been around the clubs and never really been a first choice. I'd even go as far to say that Leicesters season this year has been built around those 2 and the impressive Schmiechel in the next
