Jesus H. Fucking Christ on a bike! :)

As I've been talking about elsewhere, people are way too over emotional about players sales and far too accepting of awful purchases. Given a finite pot of money, it makes no sense. And Hendo forms a long list of signings where we'd have made better use of setting fire to the cash and getting some warmth from it.

But in all seriousness, though dreadfully over priced, Hendo was nothing like the comedy club members of Ten Shovels or Ten bob head / foot (Sammon).

Williams played 8 and scored zero. I remember him getting a chance from about 3 yards and he kicked it over the bar in front of the kop.

Might have been in the two legged play off v Bristol City.

I remember seeing him in his tracksuit at the petrol station fuelling his fancy white xr3 and I pretended not to know him he was so bad. He probably missed his car and put fuel on the forecourt.

have a like for that pal!

Henderson was not even close to one of the worst centre forwards I have seen at the Lane. He was poor and was always suspended but he got the odd goal here and there and remember soome games when he played very well; amongst a lot of awful games that I grant you.

Sammon and Hidgon are both far worse. They were playing at a lower level and were not even good enough for League One. Both immobile, slow and with awful touches. Neither score goals or contribute much to the team. Craig Beattie was bad but he actually ran around a lot and got into some great positions. When he got there he missed mostly!

As for others, Ten Heuvel was awful. His touch and control was poor and he was extremely nesh to say the least. Do not think he even scored a goal for us; all the other above at least registered that albeit it in more games.

However, as others have said I do think Paul Williams was the worst striker I have seen since going. I have been attending since 84ish and he was dreadful. I remember two of our former players both saying to me he was the worst player they had ever played with and the players at the time could not believe he was actually a professional.

He is a shoe in for my worst United X1. His partner up top would be more difficult to call. Ten Heuvel may shade it for me from the others mentioned.

Hendo was alright as a target man until he decided he needed to clatter the c/h back and then he'd spend all the game trying to get back at him until booked.
Even he sometimes didn't stop until the red card brought his feeble efforts to an end.

He could have been a lot better with more than one brain cell.

Dries Bousatta was about as bad as i have seen.

Im sorry Darius was way above the level of Higdon. The bloke got 10 goals plus in a higher league. Higdons record was worse than Porter and look at the shit he took.

For us "old uns" I suspect that there will never ever be anything as bad as Chris Guthrie. He truly achieved legendary status and Henderson and Sammon do not even get close to his worthless ineptitude. I nicknamed Henderson "the Lummox", but he had more skill in that single brain cell he reputedly owned than Guthrie had in his entire body.

However, Higdon does IMHO run him very close but basically because of his lack of fitness and stinking attitude. As for Paul Williams I had the honour of playing with him a couple of times and I really got the impression he didn't want to bother playing football. It didn't seem of interest to him. Weird really for a Pro.

Where are the Pace's,Hatton's, Deane's Agana's Fjortoft's Tudor's? God we've had some shit over the last few years haven't we?

Did your family and friends leave before Hendo?

Funny story. There was a mix up on season ticket renewal day and now I have to sit on my own every game.

We chuckle about that too, every time we meet up. Which weirdly isn't all that often nowadays. I keep getting crossed wires and somehow ending up at the wrong pre match pub.

.

Yes it was against Bristol City at the Kop End. It was a weak effort that City's keeper Keith Waugh easily blocked

Anybody remember Dennis Shiels? and Phil Cliff? Both in the wrong job.

Cliff had a shock one and only good game away in the cup at West Ham and I was there to see it, as they say. In top 10 of my away days because it was so unlikely.
Dennis Shiels wore moulded football boots even on muddy pitches! LSF will tell you!

Nowhere near I'm afraid.

The match winning hat trick (90+6 winner) at Bristol City alone puts him streets ahead of many, many others.
Henderson cost the club (and its supporters !!) circa £5m in a dire 3 year stint.

By comparison I reckon Sammon will have cost us around £600k for a year and Higdon less than this over 18 months.

As I say, on a pound for pound basis, I believe he is the worst.

He did miss the car and put fuel on the forecourt . Should have been petrol not diesel .

Bet car wouldn't start like him .

Yep I was there woody, I wouldn't say he had a good game but he was Johnny on the spot to score both goals, I think we had an injury crisis at the time and had to put out a scratch team.I think West ham thought it was going to be easy but we turned them over Bobby more and Co . Went to odeon Leicester Square to watch goldfinger after match.good day out!!!

Great day out followed by evening in That London and midnight at King's Cross to get the Arbourthorne SUFC coach back. Happy days

Lol! True Silent, I well remember my conversations with a young George Robinson about my new football boots and being surprised and delighted that Denis Shiels actually had the same pair and wore them regardless of the state of the pitch!

But no one has mentioned Douggie Brown. Guthrie was bad but Douggie Brown was the worst footballer I've seen play for United

I can remember Brown once taking his track suit top off, ready for kick off, only to realise he'd forgotten to put his shirt on. He was never short of enthusiasm and would shoot, wildly from 40 yards, mostly into the back of The Kop.

Chris Guthrie, our first £100K signing, remember going to Notts County for friendly after we got knocked out early in the cup, he was playing to his usual level, their CF broke clear, rounded the goalie and blasted over the top to which the Blades sang "you've been watching Guthrie"... you should have seen his face

I see Chis Guthrie getting a bit of flack, but feel sure I saw him score a hat trick one wet evening in a 5-1 win at Halifax...

At the start of the season I thought (along with some others) that he'd go on to have a big role. How wrong I was. Not even in League 2...
