I honestly don't think you can keep sacking manager after manager and then expect to get results.
Man Utd had Matt Busby and Alex Ferguson in charge for over a 1000 games each and between them they won 18 first division titles, 15 Charity Shields, 7 FA Cups and 3 European Cups.
Arsenal have had George Graham and Arsene Wenger for around 1400 games and between them they have won 5 first division titles, 7 FA Cups and 7 Charity Shields.

At some point you need to back a man and stick with him.. I'm not suggesting Adkins shares the same stage as the above but most success for clubs without billions to spend comes from consistency.
