Freeman gone...

We could still have a 40+ squad for next season.
Barring an episode of managerial stupidity, it isn't at all likely we'd be starting next season with as big a squad as that.

There's about 15 players out of contract.

Looks like it's going to be the loan market.
If we loan players out, add new signings before Feb 1st, the loans return in June.
We could still have a 40+ squad for next season.
If we're talking of a mass clear out, let the cull begin.

I was hoping somebody would have bought Freeman outright as he's one of the few players we have that seemed to have attracted interest. Be interesting to know how much of his wages Portsmouth are paying

Who he retains, if any, will tell me a lot more about NA bearing in mind I have doubts now.

Not au-faix with the contract details, though if that's the case, we could be looking at closer to 30 on the books?
According to this we've got 35 contracted players at the moment - excluding those we have on loan. I don't know whether they've signed up a batch of youngsters or what but I'm not sure where these 40+ figures are coming from.

I'd like to believe that they've taken them on, which frees up £xxxx for United to use on whoever comes in.
A win-win situation would be Portsmouth pay his salary, if we were to loan anyone, his parent club would also pay that.
A WIN situation would be .................................

No idea!

Other experienced (ie with experience playing there for us) right-back cover in our squad comes courtesy of ........................... McGahey.

Yikes !

The boy needs to play so this is a good thing as he hasn't been in the match 18 for a while.

Funny things happen in football. He is behind Brayford but beard is one of a few saleable commodities we have on our books and, assuming we are still a L1 side next year, we all know what we tend to do with saleable commodities in the summer

Wish him well. There is a footballer in there, which is more than can be said for some !!

UTB

Fair points. I wasn't making the point about promotion not being as important as getting rid of players simply because we've got rid of Freeman and I wasn't saying it was a bad move. What I'm saying is the major aim of this season is getting rid of the players not good enough. I think we are willing to leave ourselves short this season as long as we can get players off the bill. As I've said I'm not saying that's a bad thing , certainly not in the long term . My post was badly executed. It wasn't meant to be taken as a moan at the board for getting rid of Freeman

Fair dos :-)

Thank fucking Christ another shit player that isn't good enough fucks off.

Some shit already gone.

As we've given up on promotion and are now effectively planning for next season lets hope other shit such as useless fucker Higdon, ineffective wank Scougall and that waste of fucking space Diego are the next bunch to sling their fucking hook!

NA introduced the 40+ squad into the equation, he has the data, obviously this includes players in the U21/development squad who were probably awarded a 12 month contract, Otis Khan had a contract so he would have been included. As the club allowed these contracts in the first place it's not much of an argument, but no matter what these contracts are, monetary wise, they are still a cost to the club and 40+ is a hell of a number for a 3rd tier club. No wonder we are losing money year on year,

Given that Nige has "collinsed" him & frozen him out of the match-day squad, getting rid's a no-brainer.

Gotta say though that, like many others, I reckon he had a decent first 2 or 3 months this season. Anyway, he's gone, c'est la vie.

At least it means the board aren't cashing in on Brayford. (Not till afer the season ends anyway.)

Can someone clarify exactly how many players we actually are paying it seemed to start at 35 ish in August and seemingly increases by 1 or 2 every interview !

We'll be paying the U21's and some of the youth players obviously but I'm not sure it'd be that much to be worth including them in the figures.

I don't understand all the fuss about him leaving if I'm honest. He's a defensive liability, and if Brayford did get injured then I'd rather have Flynn at right back anyway.

League Two player at best.

I have a dream that I wake up and Collins no longer plays for us. One day it will come true!

A player leaves, followed by some discussion and the odd concern about our cover at right back.

But why all talk of uproar etc? There's been no such thing!

Agreed. He's not involved so a good idea to loan him out, but unless K Wallace can play right back as well, we're taking a risk. Flynn can cover there but he's been intermittently injured all season.

As for Basham playing there, who is going to cover Basham if he does?

Flynn? ;)

Hammond and Baxter like the other night is a good guess

I dont think playing 20 minutes out of position precludes a player covering elsewhere (particularly somewhere where he's done a job in the past).

Seems a fairly abstract criticism that we now can't consider Flynn as RB cover.

Ah thank fook for that then... I heard he was Shite in the centre mid anyway. Does that mean that Adkins won't play Lou Reed on the wing either....

I can't laud the great cull yet. Freeman is a perfectly good squad player in Division 1 promotion chasing club.

This lot should be way ahead of him in the kill list based on age, cost and contribution:

Collins, McEv, Baxter, Higdon, J Wallace, Cuvelier, Kennedy, De Girolamo, JCR, Woolford, Sammon, and perhaps Harris, Flynn, Scougall and Howard.

That's 15 players. (fifteen!)
