Agreed. We've wasted fuck loads of money. Can anyone reasonably tell me that Burton, Walsall, etc have spent even 5% of what we've spent in the last 2.5 years.

We need to cull the squad. We need to shift out 15-20 players. They all need to be jettisoned.

We're still in the mix for the playoffs and it may well still happen, but the most important thing is we clear out players who have given us at least a couple of seasons of mediocrity.

powell cleared out charlton.. they got promoted straight away.. i get rid of the lot of them apart from billy and the beard.
 
I don't fully understand the anger based on yesterdays game.
I hate this current team for the most part, they aren't fit to wear the shirt or carry the clubs name.

BUT

The display yesterday was largely a competent one. We looked tighter, we looked determined to win the ball and cut out the dangerous passes and through-balls and barring the capitulation for their equalizer the defensive performance was largely a solid one compared to the umpteen times this season we've huffed and puffed to get fuck all then got hit on the break with two or more goals.

Yes the squad needs a brutal overhaul and nothing will change my mind on that, but there were positives to come from yesterday.

There's at least a dozen out of contract and I'd shift out another half dozen.

Then we sign young hungry L1 and L2 players with pace and desire. Build the team around Brayford, Hammond (seriously) and Sharp. And start a new era like we did under Sir Neil.

We have to believe that at some point it will happen. We will get up. The strategy has been all wrong, but fundamentally lots of the pieces of the puzzle are in place. But recruitment has been fucking atrocious. We have to start getting that right.

I think the definition is:

The board has no ambition = they refuse to chuck enough millions at it until we are 15 points clear at the top of the league

I may of course be totally wrong.

I get that..but for me yesterday with a settled full strength side we played with fear or even cowardice against a lower half team.

We let Swindon do what they are good at - and it was so refreshig to see movement, pace, adventure, and imagination.

For the most part we contained them, though there was the offside penalty and the back post chance.

Given our previous expensive expansive failures maybe these were the best tactics but with any sort of quality going forward we should have created plenty of chances in open play.

Was there any other time in the first half apart from the penalty where we moved the ball quickly forwards?

One note of optimism was the burst of speed from Coutts down the right. Given the speed and overall fitness he's shown recently is there a chance we could have Hammond doing the donkey work and Coutts creating centrally?

I'll tell you feckin miserable is. Many years ago when I was stewarding on the HQ supporters club coach we set off for Blackpool in pouring rain. On the way everyone was moaning they would get soaked, I reassured everyone I'd been before and it wasn't a problem as their aI recon if things fall into place Adkin's has offers for Adams and JCR and doesn't want to risk them in case of injuries affecting a chain deal. That's the only reason I can explain those three crock-o-shit decisionsay section of the ground was fully under cover so no need for umbrellas, ponchos etc. When we got in the ground unbeknown to me the owner had sold the standing areas roof for scrap and all that was left were stubs where the stanchions had been. Boy that was a tense ride home with a coach load of wet supporters. I think we drew or lost to make matters worse. Bob Hatton was playing and a promising black kid up front but can't recall his name.

I fully agree the board are not pulling their weight and not saying Adkins is perfect but Swindon finished 4th last season, so they probably also feel like we do and that 14th doesn't represent their potential.

I am not pretending Swindon are better than they are. I'd say you are pretending we are better than we are. The OP was saying chill out. We're all dissapointed and want the best for SUFC which is why we post on here and all get so fucked off.

The main gripes I've read have not been about the result particularly, but the manner of our defeat.

The fact we allowed Swindon all that possession was due to the overly defensive tactics we employed and the fact that we back off teams allowing them to waltz through our defence looking like world beaters when they aren't, we just aren't tackling them.

And, obviously, teams in 7th don't always beats teams in 14th but it's hardly like its a one off is it? Shit teams have come to Bramall lane and stolen points all season.

But teams supposedly gunning for promotion don't need to sit back just in front of their own penalty box all game against teams like Swindon.

If we don't expect to beat them, at home, who exactly are we expected to beat?

For me it was how happy we were to sit back, concede position and set up ridiculously defensively at home.

It was clear as day we were going to let them score and we did nothing to counter this leading to the inevitable equaliser and then we were clinging on.

Whilst creating about 3 chances.

Swindon had a poor start to the season but are coming through strong at the moment as there last 10 league matches suggest s.
.Calling them a mid table team is wrong as on present form they would be a lot higher in the table.Will be interesting to see how they progress between now and end of season.

Another season floundering around in an easy division might change that
 
Just imagine the fallout in the days of fortress Bramall Lane and Warnock if we put in shit performances week after week and conceded 61% possession at home.

So I can't describe a team residing in mid table as a mid table team because of their recent form?

Does that mean I also can't describe Blackpool as fighting relegation?

Swindon mid table, yes. But also on a good run of form, so not the walk over so many expect (for some inexplicable reason)
 
Promotion with this team would be an absolute disaster. I'd rather finish 8th

It would be borderline impossible to assemble a new squad capable of staying in the championship next season. It's going to be hard enough to get promoted next season. It will be a 3 year job to get out of this league and we have to stick with Adkins through it otherwise every time we will be hitting the restart button

I'm not saying that it wouldn't be challenging, but trying to stay up is a better problem to have than upto 3 more years of trying to go up.

Not if we go back down. That would be catastrophic for the club and could well finish us off for good

Assuming we spent millions in an attempt to build an entire new squad capable of staying in the championship and then failed. It would not go well would it? Especially as we'd be back in this league again even more sick of the club looking at smaller crowds and new debts
