Has Adkins Lost it?

I was incredibly happy when we appointed him as manager. It's probably the best appointment I thought we'd made (him or Kendal at the time).

But I'm worried.

He seems to have completely lost it in terms of managerial ability.

His signings:

Billy - great, no issue there
Hammond - liability. likely to be sent off every game and makes so many mistakes. He must be the most culpable in terms of errors. He's lost pace and he's now a liability instead of a plus point.
Sammon - debatable whose signing this is but why on earth has he not been sent back? You can send any loan player back. It may annoy the parent club but who cares?
Woolford. Jeez. Kind of plodding at this level. Does some good stuff. Does some bad stuff. Mainly ineffectual.

Adkins has made so many mistakes since the inept pre-season and captain apportioning. We're no better than before and just as boring.

He gets this season and 10-15 games next season for me but it's looking bleak.

I'm hoping that's the length of contract we gave him as this board seem to fire them and pay them off at that point anyway!

Yes, I was being flippant. Be interesting to see how much of this management team's contract duration we have to pay off when another poor decision is made to compound the last few.

Radical suggestion here, but maybe the players just aren't that good, most of them at least?I am not saying he hasn't made mistakes but suggesting he is a shit manager is pushing things a bit far.

Heath, Robson, Adams, Weir. Now they were shit managers. Adkins has just been a bit dissapointing so far, but we are still in with a shout and sacking managers mid season never serves us as well as it seems to do with other clubs (Weir to Clough aside).

Let's see where we are in May and then what happens in the summer. If we are no better off by then, I will happily endorse his sacking.

He pretty much admitted he got the last substitution wrong and I think we would have won today had Basham not come off injured. Adkins had planned to bring both Sammon and Adams on towards the end of the game but instead he was far too cautious. All he did was inadvertently replace the majority of the midfield at a crucial period of the match.

OK we should have won today especially with the results elsewhere going in our favour but it seemed to me from Adkins interview that he knew he messed up with his substitutions.

Just listened to the brief version of his post match interview and I have to say his comment "we didn't take the chances that we had and they've gone and taken the one that they got" is a bit ridiculous

He's still got my faith. Even if it's blind faith.

He's been led a merry dance by the pretenders on our board. He's got a summer to rebuild before I start to write him off.

But I'll admit, I was baffled today.

Obviously with his cv I do have faith in Nigel Adkins.
It's like saying Jose Mourinho has lost the plot and is now a poor manager.

However I must admit that he's failing at the moment.
I can't see a playing style.
It seems he knows our defence is poor so plays 2 defensive midfielders in front of them for protection. Why not improve the central defence?

He made massive efforts to bring in Hammond who only looks like an half decent league 1 player.
Can't believe he's played in the PL because he's far too slow with basic ability.

Our star players from last season (Done, Brayford, Baxter and JCR) aren't as good under Adkins.
Our only big postive is the great improvement in Coutts (who looks an excellent player) but even the early fantastic form of Che Adams has stopped and he's gone backward too.

We often concede late goals because we sit back defending a lead and we seem to start games slowly rarely getting out of 2nd gear. Surely the manager is responsive for motivating his team.

I've been really dissapointed with NA so far.
He speaks well and I like his positivity but he doesn't look the real deal his cv suggests.

Agree with all bar the last paragraph. Let Adkins build his team then see if our trajectory is upward. That means he gets next season too unless we implode completely.

Obviously a frustrating day.
But here we have a PROVEN manager, there have been mistakes, there might be more, but we have the best man for the job.
We can't be looking at changing manager again, this is the man to take us into the Championship, someone who knows how to get teams promoted, and will get us where we want to be

My logic is that sacking Clough was wrong and compounded the problems we had. A manager with Adkins' record remains a better bet than most to build to a promotion winning squad given the clean slate we'll get this summer.

After the first two months of the season I'd pretty much given up on promotion with this set of players, as had many people on here. Crap results will continue to happen until they're gone, and I'm not about to be shocked when they do.

The board now have a choice. Sack their man in the continued belief that our problems are that simple. Or consider the fact that that's failed to work for us since we sacked Robbo way back when.

What I meant with my last point was let's see how next season goes from the off. He will have had 2 transfer windows to shape a team and if we haven't grabbed the league by the scruff of the neck, being top of the league after 10-15 matches then I would think about a change.

Coutts' second half chance? Sharp's chance also in the second half? Both good chances and other than Swindon's goal they didn't create any chances as good as the two I have mentioned.

Adkins was correct in what he said, take those chances and we could have got the win.

But the problem is the performance was very bad and desperately needs to improve. I'm not sure it can really get that much better with the players he has to work with. I'm just hoping and praying we can sign some better players before the window shuts.
