FSF?

Oh and if all those moaning about it not making a difference cancelled their sky subscriptions then yes, it can make a difference. Sitting on your hands and paying out 60 quid per month or whatever makes you part of the problem.

Agree. Sky was a novelty when it first came out but now relies on people not noticing the outrageous monthly sum going out of their bank account. And for what? 90 minutes of 'live' TV football coverage is usually tedious. MoTD2 had a job finding highlights from the Liverpool-Man. U game last Sunday. Most other stuff - films, drama is either crap or available elsewhere. I get well over 100 channels on Freeview and FreeSat, why pay for it?

Cancel Sky. It probably won't make a difference but, like not voting, at least you're not putting your name to these cunts antics. Put the money towards something more worthwhile - like chain smoking.

I wish you well with this initiative. For too long, football fans ( those that go to matches) have had to rearrange commitments to fit in with Sky. It's not too bad for United fans as we don't appear that often but I do dread United moving their home matches for any reason as I travel up from Nottingham and night matches are a real pain. As are those on Sunday.

Brilliant stuff guys. Any sort of bad publicity like this is terrible for Sky regardless of what they might come back with - I imagine a faceless PR statement from a faceless PR officer saying all fixtures are subject to change. Hats off for trying to do something about it, fortunately I hadn't booked anything but had plans to head down like thousands of others. It may be a small gesture in comparison, but if these ripples are happening all over the country then soon enough the powers that be are going to sit up and take notice.

Any Blades should also boycott the rearranged match. Southend have lost out on 1000s of fans coming down for the weekend to probably a couple of hundred.

I really hope this takes off, it's certainly generated a bit of interest and I do think there is coming a point very soon when fans from around the country will say enough is enough, but it is more likely to start in the Premiership where fans are paying huge amounts for tickets and getting matches re-arranged frequently to Saturday lunchtimes, Saturday evenings, Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings. Any supporter of a club in the north must face this issue frequently. The FA have the Cup Final at a time that means fans of a northern club can't get home by train that evening just in order to attract a larger TV audience, many of whom have probably not been to a live match in years, if ever.
Us getting one game re-arranged at Easter is small beer to the neutral and don't expect any support from the leagues, clubs or players. They love the money and exposure Sky give them and aren't about to criticise Sky any time soon.

I do have Sky Sports, and know I am part of the problem in that respect but I really am on the point of cancelling Sky.
The last TV deal did it for me really, and watching it being given in vast amounts to some people I frankly can't stand is becoming too much.
The disparity between those in the Premiership and everyone else from next season will make it virtually impossible for any club getting promoted to compete, whilst any club relegated will have finances way above that of the rest of the league. I really can see it leading to being a closed league with the same 23 or so teams competing, with 15 being virtually assured of always being in it and the remaining trying to not be relegated and if they are being promoted soon after anyway.
It wouldn't surprise me to see the Premiership attempt to reduce the number of teams and/or maybe move to 2 up, 2 down in the near future, along with a Christmas break to protect the poor over worked players, probably in Dubai playing in exhibition matches, for large amounts of money of course.

The best thing fans could do is protests in the ground like t-shirts and banners or maybe a walkout at a live match and so publicity like what is being generated at present is excellent. The one thing TV companies and the leagues don't want is that.
Individuals cancelling Sky would hardly make a dent in Sky's finances due to the large number of people who have it because they don't attend matches or for movies etc. Sky actively encourages people not to attend in reality.

iam all for this but the petition will go largely unnoticed. However, when you complain on the companys twitter feed, things usually get noticed and sorted pretty quickly. if people started to make numerous posts on skys social media, you are more likely going to get other people in on the act, the snowball effect and really bad pr for a big company who dont want the public to see these things.surely its better than getting a petition together. hundreds of blades on skys twitter all saying the same thing, UTB

Tell me, Jerry. What first attracted you to billionaires Mick Jagger and Rupert Murdoch? :D
and Bryan ferry ,mind you Virginia plain isn't bad and they let her on one of the songs and he is a fanny magnet I suppose.

By way of an update;

We got a good airing on football heaven last night, I was on briefly with Toby this morning during the breakfast show. I've just had a good chat with a rep from the football supporters federation who are backing our campaign all the way and agreed to help publicise it for us.

We have had messages of support from far and wide and from fans of other clubs.

What started out as a tongue in cheek comment about billing sky seems to have captured imaginations.

Our current total 'bill' stands just short of £7,000. Almost as much as the fee SUFC actually receive for the game being televised! (Which is £10k)

I was told yesterday (might have been wrong and I haven't checked) but apparently if a Premier Leagur club is affected in this way there is an official process for fans to claim refunds, not if it's from the PL or Sky but either way it stinks.

Thats, kind of, correct. I spoke with a guy from The FSF yesterday about this - they were key in getting it. Part of the last premier league TV deal saw that each club got £200k specifically to assist fans however they see fit. I believe Stoke used it to provide free travel - not sure how the rest have distributed it.

It doesn't exist in the football league deal though.

Also, whilst its welcome, and £200,000 seems a lot of money on the face of it, it has to be considered in the context that as of next season when the new rights deal comes into place, the club which finishes 20th in the premier league is likely to pull in about 100 Milllion pounds. The champions will likely net around 150 million.

One thing I'm being very cautious of in the Big Sky Bill case is that fingers of blame aren't pointed at SUFC - or other clubs at our level for that matter - as the TV money at league one level is small change in the context of football finance. I know how much we actually get from the current TV deal and I'd like to bet it barely covers the costs of our right back.

I know that TV rights are worth £150m per club so the £200k is a token gesture at best. The PL clubs benefit to the extent that any game not at 3pm on Saturday or regular midweek times should include funded travel anyway.

The rumours that the next TV deal will net the PL 50% more again is just crazy. Surely Sky/BT don't derive £bns of revenue from just sports subscribers but I suppose there's an algorithm based on new joiners/renewers/cross selling and I'm guessing this is where the benefit comes.

Football fans though are left at the bottom of the pile.
