The date we play Burton at home and thus sees Nigel Clough visit BDTBL.

Two questions;

1. What reception will you personally give him (ie what do you think he deserves)
2. What reception do you expect from the majority

Personally, I think he deserves a warm reception - he pulled us out of one of the darkest corners of history we have found ourselves in. And no one can deny the buzz and passion he brought back with that cup run - that was truly magical.

I know in his second season thinks went a bit astray, and we suffered what most considered boring tactics and a frustrating campaign. Unfortunately I think this is what the majority will remember him for and I expect him to get a mixed bag.

I do hope we treat him with a bit of class, and he has never talked badly about us to my knowledge. Nothing over the top though, and he can be sent packing without any points.

1. No sentiment. Gone. Good riddance. Some of the worst football I have witnessed in watching SUFC in years and he's left this club with a playing staff of numbers that is shackling the current manager.

2. Not particularly bothered.

He improved it. Errors were made but overall, he did somewhere between OK and Reasonably well.

I'd give him a warm reception. Clough restored some pride in the club, saved us from the frightening prospect of the trap door into League Two and gave us some unforgettable moments in cup runs during his tenure.

Broken promisies over budgets? The bloke had free reign to go and sign who he wanted!
Unfortunately for us most of them were absolute shite and now we are stuck with them draining the current managers budget.

I don't know the exact figures but i would hazard a guess he must have signed about 20 players in 18 months in charge?

Did he really have free reign? Maybe, but I reckon within a budget that wasn't half of what he thought it would be. Didn't he want to sign Coady, who probably would have come if we had stumped up the cash. The money came out in January all right but I think the board were panicking by that point and desperately trying to placate the supporters.
Fairly sure he wouldn't have wanted Harry to leave either, and if our transfer policy was more about serving the best interests of the team and less about covering losses and keeping players happy who want to leave then he may have had a decent defence last season.

Brought us out of a relegation fight to the brink of the play offs.
2 semi finals no one will ever forget.
5th place last season, which we will do well to eclipse this season.

Obviously you can always hammer or praise a manager on his signings, depends which case you are arguing!

But we should be thankful for Brayford, Coutts, Harris, Adams, maybe even Done, and getting the best out of Murphy.
He also gave Reed his league debut, not afraid to blood a kid who became our youngest ever player.

Think he should get a warm welcome.

Weir was horrendously out of his depth as a manager, that anyone could have succeeded as his successor.
Adams was just as poor if not worse, hence the statement.

No I personally don't think he wanted Coady, he was happy going for Wallace instead.

Maguire but to then never attempt to replace him was criminal.
I believe he got more or less every player that he put forward to the board that he wanted so i would say it was a free reign yes

Managers don’t really get announced so I can’t see a big reception one way or another. But if he was announced by Sinclair, I would give him a gentle applause. He did his best for the club, getting some things right and some things wrong. He came up short of the ultimate aim and made some mystifying decisions but also gave us some great individual days along the way.

Clough should be given a warm reception by fans who are big enough to appreciate what he did for us. 2 Cup Semi Finals and sent packing one season too early. He had his failings and hopefully we have replaced with a better manager but he did a good job. We would have probably been in League 2 had he not joined us when he did.

I think there would have been plenty of manager's out there who having had almost eight months in charge would have done exactly the same.

"Blinded" by two defeats in the Cups and saddled with the biggest squad ever known at BDTBL.
