That's the kind of player I'd love to see partner Billy Sharp.

Not THE Kevin Davies (although I'd liked to have him here earlier on his career) but we need a bit of a bruiser who will win aerial challenges, will hold the ball up well, has that bit of nasty streak about him but who can finish a chance too.

A Darius Henderson type, only better. The sort of player Higdon SHOULD be.

There must be this kind of bloke available for the wages we're paying Sammon?

If only Ricky Lambert would drop to this level...

We have a player on our books, scoring goals for Pompey.

He played in a 2 at Livingston and has never been given a chance at SUFC to play in a 2 up top.

He is OUR player and was misused (totally) by Clough as a substitute 1 up top when Cloughs "chosen" BIG man (who ever it was) wasn't available, was injured or NC has just had another paddy with Mcnuts.

Adkins has summarily decided not to use Mcnuts, or give him a decent chance up top this season.

We have to suffer an apparent championship player getting slagged off ever time he plays (which is no doubt damaging his already fragile temperament) whilst a goal scorer (IMHO) is proving it at Pompey .

OK, so Mcnuts might have a problem - can't be as bad as the "many" chances a certain Mr Baxter has had.

It might not work, but as we saw yesterday - every mother and his dog has had a chance with Adkins - why not Mcnulty?

The best natural goal scorer we have in this club - and that includes a certain Mr Sharp.

Don't get me wrong, I like McNulty (even if I don't quote share your opinion that he's the best finisher at the club).

I'm not sure he's the right foil for Sharp, and he's been sent to Pompey for a reason, which I believe is his off field antics.

Maybe it's the kick up the backside he needs to come back here and earn his place back? But he can't get a free pass simply because Baxter is an idiot.

I feel it's down to McNulty.

While accepting that Sharp is Adkins main man up top, I see this as more Sharp being a good foil for McNuts rather than the other way round.

Sharps abilities as a target man, a pivot, an outlet for the ball to stick, are much underrated.

You may be right there. January should be interesting.

Either way, I think we can all agree that Sammon is not the answer.

While ever McNulty is getting games at Pompey there's the chance he could be brought back anytime and not fighting for match fitness.

You really love him don't you.
He has a bad attitude off the field which seems to reflect on when he thinks he can just stroll about doing nothing till a chance comes. I would not mind if he scored enough but you can put all the minutes to goals ratio you want on, he really is not that convincing to most and I can only remember 2 goals of his from open play. Bradford away last season and Southampton.
As for being the most natural finisher No where near as good as Sharp and Done and workrate of 1/50th of them two.
PS If only he'd run the channels;).

Great goal in open play at Rochdale night game from 25 yards !

To all of you that think McNulty or any other forward at the lane is going to get us goals, please read below. If you recognise any of these symptoms you heed help.
  1. Social withdrawal
  2. Anxiety and emotional turmoil
  3. Lack of social skills and self confidence. Depression and/or bouts of sadness
  4. Less social conformity
  5. Eating disorders
  6. Inability to accept compliments
  7. An Inability to see yourself 'squarely' - to be fair to yourself
  8. Accentuating the negative
  9. Exaggerated concern over what you imagine other people think
  10. Self neglect
  11. Treating yourself badly but NOT other people
  12. Worrying whether you have treated others badly
  13. Reluctance to take on challenges
  14. Reluctance to put yourself first or anywhere.
  15. Reluctance to trust your own opinion
  16. Expecting little out of life for yourself.
  17. We watch the Blades and so far this season we have scored 1 goal or less 14 times.

He might be, managers get stuff wrong all the time as the last few years at bdtbl shows.

6 goals in 12 at Portsmouth should provide food for thought. Perhaps a better option than some others around the squad at the moment

Higdon also got 1 in 2 on loan in a higher league.

Good point, Higdon looked awful for the blades but has scored a decent number of goals for several years at a number of clubs. Interesting month ahead ;-)

He hasn't been given a chance in his natural position - that's all I ask
as for Done - he is becoming as injury prone as Wallace.
As for Sharp - yes he is good, but a club needs to rely on more than 1 striker.

All I ask is that Mcnulty is given a decent chance with Adkins as manager - accepted his attitude is not good. The angle I come from is we have little money - we are looking at not a lot of action in the JTW - is there ANYONE else to play with Sharp?

Adams is raw, and appears at present to be regressing - is it fame too early?
Higdon on way out
Done - can't stay fit - and has stopped scoring or even looking like it.
Sammon - lost all confidence, and has become the butt of fans.
Diego - not in the reckoning
DCL - too raw and on loan.

so, who plays up top with Sharp?

Mcnulty should, IMHO be given an opportunity given the circumstances - if he was sent away to Pompey to score goals and get match fit, then he is doing just that. If he was sent away until the JTW to sell to Pompey, then it probably should have happen on Jan 1st.

We need a finisher...............we have one - at least try.

So 2 managers are wrong and you are right? Hmmmmmmm

If we keep conceding 3 like yesterday, where/who do we score 4? Where in THIS squad is a there a goal scorer?

Adams?
Done?
Sammon?
Diego?
Higdon?
Baxter?
DCL?
uncle tom cobbly?

Mcnulty may very well be trouble, he may not be ideal long term, but he can put the ball in the net.

Perhaps we just allow ourselves to finish outside the top 6?
or perhaps we try and sort out a troubled young kid?

Your solution is?

UTB

I'm pointing out that Higdon has scored just as many as Mcnulty on loan, but in a higher league. With that information though, Higdon is still shit but Mcnulty is suddenly the answer apparently.
Michael Higdon 32 years old, Marc McNulty 23 years old, i know who i'd want to stay and try to help us out of this league. Someone who we could get some money back on, a player who has a chance of being a lot better than Higdon, although i'd rather have Higdon over Sammon at the minute and use Sammons wages on someone better. The beef that some have with McNulty is pretty pathetic quite frankly. Not directed at you 'btw', mate.

Solution, get rid of all the crap you mentioned above and if possiable buy a decent forward>Are you in Love with McNulty he is just as crap as the above thats why hes on loan, my god you will be telling us next that you say yours preys every night and wish he would return to save us because you can not live without him. Get real hes no good sorry to disallusion you

The same beef they had with Diego if memory serves me right. Another one you had lined up as a top prospect no?

Trouble is you just think he is a great prospect and no one else believes this. Do you really believe Mcnutts would have scored 4 yesterday? plus he is just not a team player and we are at least becoming something like a team that knows a little about eachother and he is just FAR TOO LAZY. especially to fit in to an Adkins team.

He still might be. I'm not quite sure what's happening with him at the minute. McNulty is good enough for the level we find ourselves, Diego obviously isn't as he hasn't proved anything as of note yet, i'll stick by my assertion that i think Diego will make the grade.

McNulty has clearly scored goals in this league, why is that so hard to see.

Just because someone doesn't get a chance from a manager you see that as nailed on failure, i don't, because i know, like myself they are human beings who can get things wrong.

I have never once come out with told you so posts, i'm not that kind, there really is no need for them and there is still time for things to change, you're better than that BW.
