Hammond at fault for the first 2 and also their other first half chance. Unsure from that angle whether Long should have done better
Brayford just stood there watching the second after he'd been easily beaten.

Harsh on Hammond I reckon. Defending is a team affair - one player should guide the attacker in a particular direction whilst a teammate waits to snap in. We seemed to have enough players there but no understanding of how to use them.

Also credit Posh for executing moves at a pace we cannot match and showing finishing we seldom can.

Why was Hammond at fault for first two?
Very slow in his attempt at closing down the number 10 for the 2nd goal. Similar to the goal we conceded at Walsall. Not at fault for the first goal as a Posh player blocked his run

My thoughts exactly on the first goal but disagree on the second. I thought he was technically correct in that he didn't dive in on him and attempted to shepherd him away from goal. The guy just exploded a left foot rocket from nowhere.
Sometimes you just can't apportion blame to every goal scored against us.

Difficult to blame the players for the first and second goals, another time they both land in "row Z", however the third was poor.

It was worth watching for the agony of the Posh player helpless as he heads it whilst prostate on the pitch and it agonisingly rolls in.

Joking aside, I don't know how we didn't win that game, if we'd gone ahead in that period in the first half when they couldn't live with us then I feel we'd have won the game. I'm sure Nigel will be none too pleased about the "game management" he speaks so much about.

Why did everyone back off from their player Samuelsen for the last goal? No tackling, no blocking, no bodies in his way, nothing. Why!??

..the last goal should have been disallowed for hand ball. It bounced up and he used his hand to control it. The cheating hammer c*nt. :-)

That number 10 easily found space to shoot cos Hammond went the other way and was very slow in recovering the yards he lost out to him. We could have easily gone two down in the 1st half when Hammond awfully lost possession near the halfway line causing our defence to react quickly to the breakaway and rescuing us.

Basham missed a couple of sitters including the shot that led to the own goal. It's been the story of his season.

Warwick Davies' 2nd for them was a cracker and he was an annoying pain in the ankle all game - deliberately trying hard and playing well.

Our second goal was one of the silliest I've seen - saved Bash from serious abuse for missing such a Salmonesque sitter.

I have a huge amount of time for Brayford, but he really should have done better with their winner. From where he picked up the ball - he should never have scored.

I didn't think that third goal could look any worse than it did in real time.

That video makes it look even worse.

Totally agree. Sorry to say this, but Hammond looked positively pedestrian yesterday. Hope Adkins can swallow his pride and let him go, cos it just aint working out.

Collins at fault for first goal. Chickened out of putting a tackle in.

A GoalWatch:

1st goal: Peterborough have the ball down our right, and we're not quite comfortable. Basham is closing down the man on the ball, but he's approaching him from the side. Hammond is on the wrong side of two midfield runners. Surprisingly the man on the ball ignores the runners and passes it up to their striker.

Edgar strangely goes awol whilst also hindering Brayford, allowing Washington to run at Collins. Hammond tries to get back, but is blocked by an opponent. Washington shoots, Collins can't block, though he may have blocked Long's view and the ball flies in.

For me Edgar creates the biggest gap for them, but it's also a situation where we are a bit uncomfortable in terms of our positioning at the start of the move.

2nd goal: Obviously Hammond will get most of the blame, as he backs off and can't keep up with his nippy opponent, who's allowed to shoot. Fair enough, but we have enough people back and there should be a rescue plan in case Hammond can't stop Oztumer. Edgar's job is to be that second defender, but he just stays back, even though Collins screams and points to make him push up. In the end the ball may have slightly changed direction off Edgar's head, but he should have been much closer to the shooter.

3rd goal: Some have said it was offside moments before Samuelsen's run, but it wasn't. A tired looking Brayford gets back to face him, and he was probably a bit relieved that Samuelsen chooses to cut inside. That means Edgar takes over as 1st defender. However Edgar buys the dummy, and Brayford is too tired/sloppy to have taken up a covering position, resulting in the gap between him and Edgar. Samuelsen goes past them and skips past the covering slow-looking Hammond before finishing.

Credit to the young Norwegian, this is fabulous ability! With Brayford's role description implying he's flying up and down all game, I think he may have paid the price here. I think it's ok that he leaves Samuelsen to Edgar as he cuts inside, but his involvement in defending the situations doesn't end there. On this occasion both Edgar and Hammond's positioning is good, but their defensive ability doesn't match Samuelsen's skill.

Yes, he was at fault when he lost possession in the 1st half that led to Long saving that break, but I just don't see the second goal incident the way you do.

OK. Hammond has the brain to be in the right positions but his body is too slow and that is not good enough for me. Fully agree with Bergen's analysis of the three goals

I'm that much of a mardy bastard I refuse to watch any highlights of a game we lost.

Should grow up really.
Worth breaking your rule for the comedy value. Not only the defending on all 3 goals, but Basham's excellent work on our second goal is well worth a look. Should become a regular scorer with that sort of work.
