Well, We've all known we need a big commanding CB for a while, a winger and a CM. I think with the repeated poor performances from Sammon, getting a good big lad in up front is the priority. If we'd have had that yesterday I think we'd have taken the initiative in the first half and come away with a win.

Surely we can send Sammon back and get someone else in on loan?

I agree regarding Sammon.

He offered absolutely nothing yesterday and was often the reason our attacking moves broke down due to his lack of coordination, inability to challenge and complete lack of footballing nous.

Send him back. Replace. Or just send him back and get his wages off our bill.

I often think he's shite, but then he goes ahead and does something brilliant. A pretty frustrating player to watch but I think his play in general isn't good enough

Ask the board and they'll tell you the priority isn't signing players, it's getting shut of players
Seems so sounds like the managers main task is to trim the wage bill not sure where promotion fits in

No doubt they want us to think everything's OK after the recent mini-run. It isn't.

After the most recent splurge (last transfer window) which didn't come up trumps, McCabe's put the breakers on & seems to be implementing "austerity" & cutbacks. Making Adkins manage with one arm tied behind his back.

simple, send Sammon back and bring someone in on lower wages

New signing is looking suave...

Well I think we need in order is, CB > Winger > CM > Striker > GK > FB
Simply we still haven't replaced Magurie, we need to find a partner for Edgar and ideally someone younger then Collins in our back four, he can put in the odd decent performance but not a player for the first team.
We are also lacking in good wingers at the club, Coutts is at the moment our only valid wide man. Woolford/ JCR are too inconsistent for this league, they are not likely be able to step up if we did get promoted. Flynn for what ever reason isn't given the chance and Adams is still very raw, I think it was a mistake from Adkins seeing him as a direct replacement for Murphy.
CM simply because we need something different, Hammond and Basham are too alike, Baxter needs to be ship off because of his poor disciplinary record off the field.
The other areas I think we are fine with, but we still need to ship out talent ideally before brining in new recruitments.

The chances of automatic are minimal. (even with 2 or 3 decent signings), id much prefer to get rid of the shit, those who are sucking us dry and give it a go next season. Cant deal with another play off heartache its just getting to embarrassing.

I think the key is to make sure we hold on to the quality within the squad.

It's very easy to see which positions we struggled with in the last game and then suggest we sign or replace someone in that position.

My priority has always been the defence. It has been since July 2014 and will continue to be until it's covered. I don't think it's at all unreasonable to suggest a 17 month wait and counting is nothing short of unacceptable.

The comments from KM at the AGM and from NA in subsequent interviews doesn't fill me with any confidence that this transfer window will be anything but disappointing. I hope it's a smokescreen, but it is a hope nothing else. The emphasis seems to be in reducing the squad and the wage bill, again, how it's been allowed to spiral out of control again after the cull by Mr Julian Winter borders on incompetence. The priorities remain the same from close of play last year, my worry is NA didn't address them when he had the chance and might not get the funds to address them now.

I've been coming round to this way of thinking. I can't see us moving on without getting rid of 75% of the squad. Next season excites me simply due to the fact I won't have to watch a lot of these players in a United shirt ever again. Not saying it's going to work out next time out but I've all but written off this season. I applaud the positivity of those talking of automatic but it's really not something that is in my mind. We can still make the play-offs but I don't think we are good enough. Just get rid of as many of these players as we can and start again

Knowing us though we will sell Brayford and Sharp on the last day of the August transfer window and be in the exact same position this time next year

We have to sign another striker regardless of what we do with Sammon, sending the clueless fucker back would be a bonus.

Sadly what we have to do and will do are two totally different things. I would love to find one person who thinks Sammon is vital to any so called promotion bid. I pity him because unlike Higdon, he tries. It's not his fault he's utter shite

Tbh I'd even question his effort recently. If it's not a lack of effort then it's an extreme doziness and lack of intelligence.

Maybe if we could get in to the top 6 and squeeze promotion but it always seems to end in tears.
I'm looking to next season in league one. Selling our best players seems to be the blades way unfortunately.

I think if we have serious ambition this season we need to look to replace Collins, Hammond, Woolford and Sammon as a priority from yesterday's starting 11.

Any of them might prove me wrong and be an instrumental part of a second half of the season charge (no sniggering at the back) but if we're really going to go for promotion via autos or the playoffs then being brutally honest those 4 are either past it or never were it.

He does have a sharp resemblance to a certain horse-like animal.

Our head of player recruitment has an excellent record when it comes to signing strikers - even though there is egg on his face when it comes to this seasons effort. However, our duo of Sharp and Done could be good enough to get us to the playoffs if the defense is improved.
Priority has to be a center half!

Remember when Brayford came back a few games ago? It was like signing a new player when he'd been under our noses all along. Adkins has pretty much warned us that there'll be no new faces coming in and Sammon should never be picked again after Saturday. I'm struggling to see where McNulty wouldn't be our 'mystery man'. It can't simply be his disciplinary antics or we'd have seen the last of Baxter. Regardless of what some folk think of McNuts, can anybody name a player we could get - for nothing - who would be as good as anything (Sharp excepted) up front and be ready to play against Wigan? Adkins is the one to blame if he won't bring McNulty back, not McCabe.

Where do we start ...... pretty much same as was needed in august as our glaring deficiencies haven't been addressed and have been added to by the Murphy sale ....

We need:

GK
dominant strong CH to play with Edgar
strong mobile CM with a bit of flair
big, strong CF with some pace that can actually score goals
fast strong winger

..... and, of course, to offload about 10 / 12 of our deadwood with more to follow in the summer when they're out of contract ....

UTB & FTP

Totally agree regarding Sammon. When we don't have the ball he just jogs around without an attempt to close down space. It's like his brain switches off but his legs keep ticking over.

Now I've never been Billy Sharp's biggest fan but I have to admire his effort. He works so hard but without looking like a headless chicken. There's always an intention to achieve something. I hope Pinchy and the 'Bladey Blade' hunting gestapo out there will lt me off for saying that

I'm struggling to find a direct quote but I'm sure Jim promised we'd spend 'every penny' of the Murphy transfer fee. The nearest I can find is this:

"The prince's investment has also allowed the Club to apply/allocate all (that's 100%) of the proceeds from player sales to first team football."

Now, I think we've had the wool firmly pulled over our eyes with the whole investment thing. I'm pretty sure that the Prince was guaranteed to invest money in the first team but suddenly wages became part of the first team bill and not classed as expenditure as before.

Personally, if there's no money I'd sell Brayford and use the profits to strengthen the rest of the team. It would also take a large amount off the wage bill.

Nicksufc remind us of something brilliant:)

There is a video interview of JP and Alan Biggs, AB asked him twice about the 1.5 million fee for JM and was it available in the January transfer window. JP reply was

"All player transactions have gone to first team football" never when pressed again did he include the wordJanuary. His second reply included the role of the committee which decides on transfer targets which consists of NA, Financial Director, Brannigan (who has left so it's one of the two who replaced him) and Cox of the academy) he added they decide on the transfer not the board. So it's how you interpret what he says, the fee has gone into the fund for the first team, is any of it left for January, who knows .
