Who to Sign in the JTW?

Let's say we've got £1.2m to spend in the JTW what position or positions should we spend it on?

I think this is really complicated but didn't want to clutter the OP
  • £1.2m is a wild guess of what's left of the Murphy money after deductions, Hammond's wages, who knows what else. It's not much more than a guess tbh
  • start of the season a CH was top priority, we've since loaned Edgar and brought Collins back into the fold, we also have cover from McEveley and even McGahey - Kennedy is only making the bench at Cambridge
  • Baxter's periodic self-destructions mean we are often without creativity
  • if Cuvelier and/or Wallace get fit and we buy a creative CM we might end up with three similar players where we've got none atm - unlikely but possible
  • GK - Long is coming on well, Howard is good cover imo, priorities lie elsewhere
  • do we spend the bulk on one player or split it 50/50?
  • etc etc
My instinct is that we need a mobile and fairly creative midfielder to play alongside Hammond - as I think he's bound to be in the team, and we should commit most of the money to this.

It's not an easy call though.

Winger - Kemar Roofe
Offload Sammon and a striker wouldn't harm - Josh Windass or Tom Bradshaw
Central defence - Connor Goldson (loan) and/or Tom Eastman and/or John Egan
Creative midfield player - Romain Sawyers

A pacey brute of a centre half and Murphy's replacement and if we can send Sammon back bring in a target man. Any we bring in must have bags of pace. Sadly I think it will be who we can get out of the door and we will be lucky to see any additions to an already huge squad, all the signs are showing is that we are skint.

This thread is a pointless waste of everyone's time anyway. We never sign anyone that gets suggested. We'll definitely end up signing a few injured Championship rejects that nobody wants. Or a few more of Adkins' bestie friendies, one of the two. Same old.

Burke on a loan from Forest, Josh Windass...

Kevin Nolan's a free agent, easily do a job in league 1 and still think he has some legs left.

Hope not. The ultimate journeymen looking for a final pay day. Daltry still has a bit of fire in his loins but would struggle to go 90 minutes, two of them are dead - but would still be more mobile than Higdon and Hammond I suppose - and Townsend would bring us more embarrassment than Ched - purely for research purposes, you understand. It's a definite NO from me.

I'm not convinced we should utilize transfer fees for specific positions.
In my view the most efficient process is to identify and sign the best emerging talent that we can afford regardless of position.
To do otherwise may result in missing out on future stars because (for example) they play in Brayford or Sharp's position.
The bulk of the money (say 1 million) could be used for signing players that can be slotted into the first team over the next year or so who are young enough to be capable of significant improvement with playing time.
The remainder can be used to fill gaps in the squad that need to be addressed immediately, as wages towards short term loans or free transfers.

I think this unlikely - our scout (scouting team?) has now been in place for half a season.
Time to see what he/they have come up with.

Bradley Dack, Dan Burn and Sam Morsy. In that order.

We need to bring in wingers, Woolford isn't a good replacement for Murphy.
Adams hasn't been consistent enough either but given his age and playing experience you can't expect too much.
And we probably still need another cb even after a couple of clean sheets, we now its not a very stable pairing.

Need another winger with pace.
James Vaughan, powerful striker on loan at Birmingham from Huddersfield would be a striker I would look at. or someone of that style.
Pacey CB

In short pace.

No they weren't. I didn't see one post suggesting Brayford or Sharp before the respective rumours surfaced.

I'm not sure if it's just the case that none of your 7 accounts were active on this forum then, or if you're just being deliberately argumentative in the face of indisputable fact, but to suggest otherwise is like saying "oh, nobody's ever suggested that we should re-sign Michael Brown since we sold him".

Do you think we should sign Harry Maguire? This is presumably the first time you've ever heard this suggestion.

For now, all we need is a pacey winger / midfielder and a CB. The time for the major re-build will be the Summer, we've too many injured / coming back to fitness / out of form players for many clubs to come knocking at our door for the clear out we need.

I'd say Adkins is reasonably happy with the following for the time being;

Long
Brayford, Edgar, X, Harris
Coutts, Bash, Hammond, X
Sharp, Done

Stand by: Wallace (x2), Adams, Freeman, Sammon, Reed, Howard, McE, Scougs

If form / confidence improves, he may move away from the three defensive midfielders approach but either way, were crying out for the two Xs to be filled.
