Whilst most of the world is probably partying hard I'm sat in the lounge with a bottle of red trawling through Statto.com.
In our promotion season from the 3rd tier in 1988-89 we lost 12 games; 6 of them against teams who finished in the bottom 4. We also had 11 clean sheets; with less than half the season gone we have already achieved 7.
Smile, history is on our side.

To match that season (& end up on 84 pts.), we'd need the following record from here on in:

Pld.24 W.16, D.3, L.5. Goals F.59, A.24 Pts. 51.

Could be done (with the exception, maybe, of goals for), certainly not beyond us.

We (possibly) may not need that. This is a very poor division and expect the leaders to slump now that Clough is back in charge.

Our next game is a toughie. After all, Wigan are strong, one of the favourites, have parachute payments etc. etc. Their opponents (us) have been pretty diabolical for much of this season, have too many poor players and discipline problems.

So how come they're just 4 points ahead of us? :)

At a guess maybe they aren't that great either.

I'm predicting Wigan will be a great game, United will be backed by a large and vocal travelling contingent, and I think it spur us on in a very difficult game. I reckon it will 1-1, and we will finish off the festive period with another draw against Bradford who are no mugs, and a narrow win over Peterborough
