That's modern football though. Scunny are a nothing club, could just as easily be in the Conference as in L1. They should be happy with survival in this league.

Our only league win at Scunthorpe was 56 years ago ! The mighty Scunthorpe.

Due to a misunderstanding, I've ended up with a ticket.

However, despite a fortunate win last Sunday I was encouraged that we weren't going to roll over against Coventry.

As mentioned above we often get red cards at Scunthorpe for some reason. If we battle and keep 11 players on the pitch, I think we can get something.

Yes, it was part of Mickey Adams's Fantastic February: 2 points from 7 games that month. It was at this point I knew we were down.

We, of course, managed a red card as well.

That game haunts me. I had a decent bet on us to win, and at 0-2 up I could have laid it off on the exchange for a tidy profit, but went down the shed thinking we had the game in the bag only to return later and shit myself!

0-2 up after about 14 minutes (think Cressy got both) then hit the post in what looked like a nailed on destruction. Then we got bummed...............in the ass.

Yes, heard us go 1-0 up as we approached the ground, then 2-0 as we came in through the turnstiles. Never mind, we said, at least we're winning. Found our seats, and then saw 3 more goals. What a shame they were all Scunthorpe's.

The 2-3 when we went down was as infuriated as I've ever been at United. 2-0 up - Cressy and Evans IIRC, one from charging down a keeper kick - and then 80 minutes of the most disgraceful performance I've ever witnessed. Only Doyle came over to applaud the fans after the game too. An hour to get out of the csr park, part of the M180 shut. Horrible night. Relegation confirmed all but mathematically.

The 2-3 game was on 22 Feb. 2011 but I think the 'relegation die' was cast much earlier - when we met them at BDTBL on the night of Sept. 14 2010. 0-4 at home to fucking Scunthorpe. Still, at least we don't let these little teams come here and take the piss any more...
