James Wallace and Flo Cuvelier

Both played for the U21 side today, getting 90 mins and 80 mins respectively.
That'll be another hamstring/calf strain for Wallace and a career threatening ACL for Flo then? Bets against?

Encouraging news. Can the doom and gloomers find some new material, please? Or, alternatively, contribute a view worth debating instead the same pessimistic shite.

Both must have a decent chance of getting a first team start IF they suffer no reaction. For me, Scougall or Flo could challenge Coutts' place if Adkins wants more energy. Scougall has badly regressed but I'd like to see Nigel give him a final chance before contemplating moving him on.

And Wallace potentially offers us better possession on the ball compared to Basham. At some point we have to throw Wallace on from the start in a meaningful fixture to give us clarity either way. Otherwise why waste our time nurturing him in the u21s when a youngster could play.

I'd also give Otis Khan a go from the bench in the new year.

stop dreaming of the impossible robbie

I wise hermit once told me:

When the world, leaves you feeling blue
You can count on me, I will be there for you
When it seems, all your hopes and dreams
Are a million miles away, I will re-assure you

We've got to all stick together
Good friends, there for each other
Never ever forget that
I've got you and you've got me, so

Reach for the stars
Climb every mountain higher
Reach for the stars
Follow your hearts desire
Reach for the stars
And when that rainbow's shining over you
That's when your dreams will all come true

There's a place waiting just for you
Is a special place where your dreams all come true
Fly away, swim the ocean blue
Drive that open road, leave the past behind you
Don't stop gotta keep moving
Your hopes have gotta keep building
Never ever forget that
I've got you and you've got me, so

Reach for the stars
Climb every mountain higher
Reach for the stars
Follow your hearts desire
Reach for the stars
And when that rainbow's shining over you
That's when your dreams will all come true

Don't believe in all that you've been told
The sky's the limit you can reach your goal
No-one knows just what the future holds
There ain't nothing you can't be
There's a whole world at your feet
I said reach

Climb every mountain (reach)
Reach for the moon (reach)
Follow that rainbow
And your dreams will all come true

Reach for the stars
Climb every mountain higher
Reach for the stars
Follow your hearts desire
Reach for the stars
And when that rainbow's shining over you
That's when your dreams will all come true

The view worth debating is this. Statistically (that is using mathematics as a basis for establishing facts) or as follows:- "the practice or science of collecting and analysing numerical data in large quantities, especially for the purpose of inferring proportions in a whole from those in a representative sample."

Both are more likely to suffer injury or another injury so as to ensure they do not partake in another competitive game for Sheffield United this season as they are likely to partake in such a game. Or both are more likely to miss more games than they are to play games this season due to injury or "injury".

Maybe I am being harsh (but I think not) when statistically the case can be made out for not throwing Wallace anywhere except upon the scrap heap of not physically up to it.

Yes, very encouraging

They'll be just about fit enough to play some part of a game just as their contracts expire and they sign pre contract terms for some other club as we reduce the bloated size of our squad and of our treatment room.

I am absolutely certain that neither of these players will make any contribution worth the name to this club before the depart.
You are clutching at straws if you thin that they will.
Think Coutts and Hammond being played into fitness. ......and neither of them has yet. How many games is that each and still not effective?

Bonkers!

Enlightening stuff, thanks. So you wouldn't test your theory and throw Wallace in from the deep end, ever again?

Personally, I'd roll the dice. We need to know once and for all if he has any future at the club, however unlikely it appears based on the stats.

Unlike some, I'm still to be convinced that Wallace could be the answer if he's fit. As with Couvelier and Diego. But I'm fairly certain that Basham and Coutts aren't in midfield.

I'm not saying they WILL. I'm saying I'd like to find out.

Both great players that have unfortunately had their careers hindered, I don't think Cuvelier had any previous injury issues before joining us, I was impressed we managed to sign him in fact as I know Stoke held him in high regard. I was also impressed when he pretty much destroyed Marcus Williams once match with considerable ease and looked a very good player (2:04 on the video below), I was also surprised we signed both as Cuvelier was brought in a week after Baxter and Wallace was injured, I think in total they both cost almost a million.

Both better than owt currently in midfield...if they weren't fucked...

I know "where you are coming from", but there comes a time when you just have to give in to reality over hope, or give in to the present evidence over expectation. If you are a golfer think Tiger Woods. Amazing talent but it has gone and we are still waiting after three years for it to return. It won't.

The evidence suggests that Wallace is not physically suited to the full rigours of todays professional game. I actually think that Flo has more chance of a return and also more "balls" to make it work than Wallace.

Still, I can be wrong. I gave up on Murphy. I could see a good player in him, I just didn't see a way it would ever come out. Just shows what confidence and coaching can do. However, confidence and coaching can't offset a weak body and a weak mindset.

There is nothing Wallace could do to convince me he's worth a contract offer. His fitness record is that poor.

Now this is an idea I can get behind.

Wallace cannot be worse than Hammond,Coutts, Reed and Scougall. Stick him in from the start. If he comes through fine, great. If not, we've lost nothing and we can bring on one of our other "midfielders" after 5 minutes after Wallace breaks down, and Wallace can prepare for his annual Dubai rehab holiday in the New Year. When he's "fit" again, do it again.

I would suggest the same for Cuvelier but he has always struck me as a worse version of Ryan Flynn and there's no upside to him whatsoever.

The problem with Cuvelier is that he is a very talented player but not in the system we play... He's an attacking midfielder when ideally plays just behind a striker, similar to Baxter.

Don't think we will be seeing them anytime soon Adkins comes across as being very overcautious with injured players returning.
