Clough To Burton

Clough will have a brief honeymoon period, then teams will suss him out. He'll revert to form and go ultra-defensive, allowing teams to come on to Burton. Clough will then revert to Plan B. With Clough there is no Plan B. No imaginative substitutions, no change of tactics. At the first sign of pressure from the opposition, he'll pull all eleven back, concede midfield and a goal for the opposition will become inevitable. He'll sign dross, suck the finances out of Burton by 'employing' half his family and his true worth as a manager will be plain for all to see.

Expect a mid-table position for Burton next May. Probably better than us, but it would still be a monumental fuck-up after JFH has done the hard graft for nearly half a season.
He was so bad we were in a better place this time last year than we are now. Out of our last 3 managers he would walk into the Lane for me.

Do you think that we put a clause in his contract, like Derby did, that he has to come back and take a number of worthless players from our reserves?

Clough would've been a great appointment if Burton were shipping in goals at the bottom of the table, Warnock on a short term or someone of that ilk would have got them up and carried on. Clough is too bureaucratic for a promotion push.

Why would they take any of the underperforming players we've got, their players are sat at the top of the division who would weaken a winning team?

All the hard work has been done for him, if he fails to get them up from there then he will be confirmed as a loser.

If he gets them up he will be open to the charge that it was really JFH's success.

But if he gets them up he can be smug in the knowledge that he's in a division higher than the team who sacked him.

Probably the least surprising managerial appointment so far this season. Why would he bother buying some of our players? he may as well wait til their contracts run out in August.

Why would they not be? Clough played McNulty and gave him advice, he put some faith in him and McNulty scored goals.

It wasn't the perfect relationship but Clough got some good results out of McNulty.

Indeed and IF Burton were to go up - I reckon Clough would then come and sign some of your players - Sparky/Coutts/Bash etc.

Doubt Burton could afford any at this level but 1 division up they might.

not a Clough fan but to be fair he did all the work to get them into the football league (took him 11 years mind). Be interesting to see how he does now though, no excuses to hide behind with them sitting top of the league.

I bet he doesn't take the dead wood he brought in with him?

Clough cannot cope at big clubs with big expectations - as he proved with us and Derby. Burton is more his type of club.
Heard it on 5 Live and they said summat about it suiting him more than us and Derby, as he wouldn't have to deal with "committees and absent chairmen"

Yeah but don't let the facts get in the way of an agenda. Good luck to the bloke and hope he succeeds. As you said previously wrongly sacked from his time with us when what has followed hasn't been any better. But I guess that is Cloughs fault as well, in spite of the fact that within 3 months he had us on a winning run that took us to a cup semi final and to the brink of the play offs. From a relegation battle that isn't shit in my eyes.

Well said borbokis I couldn't agree more. He should have got another season. All slating Clough, two great cup runs, play off semi and dragged us from the relegation places. Just shows how shit he really was.
But now Adkins is pulling up trees and playing sexy football we can slag him off.

Good luck to Clough. Don't understand the hostility and animosity towards him from our fans, will be pretty sad if he gets abuse when he returns with Burton.

in the 20 months he was with us he created some pretty good memories.
Spot on ,Southampton ,Spurs ,West Ham ,Forest ,Charlton all seem light years away now.

Clough wasn't perfect but I think he'll do well at burton again. He certainly did well with us

It shows how bad Adkins has been when people look back fondly on Clough. Failed to get promoted from Div 3, brought in an incredible number of poor players, fell out with just about everyone and played the most negative football you could imagine.

Incredibly we are even worse now though. Oh for positive, fully commited, highly tempo football.

well given the position JFH has left him in he shouldn't need it this season. This will be a good test of Clough as a manager.

No more than his first season with us was. He was a good manager and still is.
