Good points, well made
Bladesway. But what's
wrong with social changes? Only eight years ago, pubs were choking with tobacco smoke. I certainly remember when drink-driving wasn't only accepted, but
expected. Times change. Remember when the kop was like the Black Hole of Calcutta at night matches, but is now brilliantly-lit? Has it diminished the atmosphere? Probably. Has it denied ne'er do wells the opportunity to get up to mischief? Certainly.
I well remember the 70s and 80s and wouldn't have missed them for the world, but I wouldn't want to go back there.
And yes, Hillsborough
was a massive overreaction. As is normal in this country, the 'powers that be' fucked up and - to cover their failings - decided to (and still do, to this day) punish
everybody.
