Sorry Darren just looked it up again and you are right. They played each other in 1971-72 on 11th May 1972 (Tottenham won 2-0 at Highbury). Most of the other clubs finished their games on Sat 22 April and the FA Cup Final was on Sat 6th May (which Arsenal lost to Leeds in). After 22nd April, Arsenal played Man U on Tue 25th April (won 3-0), Coventry away on Mon 1st May (won 1-0), Cup final on 6th May, Liverpol at home on Mon 8th May (drew 0-0) before the finished with the Tottenham game on Thursday 11th. Some fixture backlog that!

You missed the most vital game. Leeds went to Wolves on 9th May needing a win to take the title. They lost 2-1. It used to be quite common for vital games to take place after the end of the regular season. Cf the famous Hull game at Burnley in May 1984,

Is our club the graveyard for managers?

Do any other clubs have worse records where when their manager is sacked then they're on the scrap heap?

Just remembered Kevin Blackwell did get a few weeks managing at Bury.

We do seem to damage careers, if not actually destroy them.
Of the post Warnock era, only Robson and Weir haven't had managerial jobs since and, of course, Nasty Nige.

This was the league table going into that game. Leeds goal average ahead of the game was 2.482 whilst Derby was 2.091 so a of 10-10 draw or less would have been enough!

There isn't always universal agreement as to if a match should be postponed Back in March 1974 Halifax Town and Exeter City asked the Football League to postpone matches because their respective playing squads had been decimated by injury and illness. In Exeter's case they had medical certificates for 9 unfit players which left them with just 9 fit players, two of them goalkeepers. Halifax were given permission to postpone their Division 3 match at Bournemouth on Saturday March 30th 1974 but Exeter were refused permission to call of their matches against Peterborough the same day and Scunthorpe 3 days later. They played, and lost, their home match against Peterborough but refused to travel to Scunthorpe to fulfil their Division 4 fixture at the Old Showground scheduled for Tuesday April 2nd. There was speculation that Exeter's punishment might be expulsion from the Football League but later in April it was announced that the Devon side had been fined £5000 for not fulfilling the fixture and in addition were ordered to compensate Scunthorpe £1094 for the lost gate receipts and expenses. It was a massive sum for a Division 4 side to pay. Uniquely the two points were awarded to Scunthorpe and the match was not ordered to be played. It is the only fixture in Football League history that was never played

Liverpool needed to beat Arsenal by a few goals to win the league, but they drew 0-0, so Derby were Champions having already gone on tour.
