Excellent signing. Quality player.
BBC website says Robson is now trying to make the deal permanent

Looks like it's a non starter according to this..........

Greece international midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos has said he is not interested in leaving Premiership side Bolton Wanderers to play in the English Championship.

The 33-year-old, who underwent hernia surgery in Athens during the off season and has missed the start of the new campaign, has been linked with a loan move to Sheffield United.

"I am not interested in Sheffield United or any other Championship side," he told a Greek sports Web site.

Bugger. Mind you, I suppose when you've got a European Championships Winner's medal, Ipswich away on a cold Tuesday night in March isn't the most appealing thing in the world.

Bloody snob :D

More talks as Robson bids to lure Stelios to the Lane

SHEFFIELD United's bid to sign Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stelios on loan is approaching its end game.

Boss Bryan Robson, whose side travel to MK Dons in the second round of the Carling Cup this evening, plans talks with the Greece international before kick-off at stadium:mk before booking another round of negotiations as he attempts to convince Stelios to step down to the Championship.

Robson has already agreed a provisional deal with the Premier League club to take the 33-year-old until the end of the season, but admits his target is not enamoured by the prospect of turning his back on the game's elite.

However, the United manager - who is also understood to be on the look-out for a new fitness coach if, as expected, Tony Daley's departure is confirmed later this week - has already prepared a 'hard sell' to ensure he captures his No 1 transfer target.

"I'll tell him about the ambition here," Robson said. "And I'll let him know not only what we want to achieve here but also what we are capable of achieving."

Should a deal for Stelios fail to materialise, Robson will be encouraged that other possibilities are starting to materialise as clubs look to fine-tune their squads before the forthcoming deadline for permanent signings.

Thomas Gravesen, the Celtic midfielder who snubbed United's lucrative offer to move south, has been told by the Scottish champions that he is free to leave Glasgow as Gordon Strachan's dispute with the Dane threatens to boil over.

More talks he says.

Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson has failed in his attempts to take Bolton's Stelios to Bramall Lane.

Robson had been looking to bring in Stelios prior to Friday's transfer deadline and agreed a loan deal in principle with Sammy Lee.

However, the Greece international midfielder is unwilling to join The Blades and will be staying at Bolton.

"Stelios is definitely dead in the water," Robson told the club's official website.

"He doesn't want to drop down into the Championship and I couldn't persuade him to do that.

"It would've been nice to have him in our squad, but it's not going to happen and we have to move on."

Oh well you don't ask you don't get.

Lets hope we get someone else in.

Think he can play most places in midfield id have a guess at him usually playing on the left hand side although im unsure

if Reading want him, i doubt he will turn reading down for us, i would imagine so anyway

If he leaves bolton that is

i think we are all forgeting that we came clsoe to getting him early in the season and we didn't get him i will believe it when he is on the pitch playing football but i hope he comes good player

We never came close to signing him though.

True. We'd agreed an initial fee with Bolton but he wasn't interested in even speaking to us.

It'll come down to a trade off between what he wants more; first team football or Prem status.

We wont sign him.

Would be great if we did though.
