Not surprised there weren't many views - reckon it's the first time, the one coach probably had spare seats on it.

Didn't think Fleetwood were that bad tbh - good pressing game, nice movement - just fuck all up front.

Thought the kid marking JCR had a decent game - looked quick and didn't give him a minutes peace - possible signing in the future?

Liked the no 8 in centre midfield.

They should be proud of how far they have come as a club - question is, like Yeovil - can they step up again and would it ruin them?

Sounds like they echo some of the blades remarks on the game.

We had a thread a while back about what set us apart from the Porcine Crew and their massive expectations. Dare I read back through it?

Am properly irked.

I have no problem with large expectations, and in fact, I don't class expecting to beat Fleetwood at home as a large expectation.

What I hate is people hurling abuse at the players during the match when we're winning!

That's probably what I meant as I wasn't talking about Fleetwood in particular... I am hugely expectant of my team, of course we don't belong in the third tier. But the fact of the matter is that we are. We have a lot of players who, in all honesty, are not much above average for the third tier. To hear the abuse and half-witted comments on style of play while winning 2-0, to read that we were "dire", that it was "shite", is not only wrong, it also detracts from the utter toss we have played in recent months and seasons.

I could mark JCR and I've go two bad knees and a bad back!

There were 89 fans in the away end, I know this as I counted them three times during the first half to make sure I got the figure correct. (Which is probably as good an indication of how engrossing the first half was as you need)

Agree the crowd was apalling last night. At best, the atmosphere was flat. At worst, "we" were booing our own players for keeping posession whilst winning. The idiot who sits a few rows behind me (Kop, slightly left of centre, maybe around row VV) is one of the worst. After they'd all been booing the lack of forward play, Freeman went round the outside of his man, got to the byeline but just failed to keep it in (first half). Quite a few applauded the effort while he was shouting "What are you fucking clapping for? He's just run it out the useless wanker".

He had a similar rant at Adams for failing to score from Sharp's throughball at the end of the first half. If you post on this forum and are reading this, hang your head in shame. You are a dsigrace of a football fan.

On the other hand, last night showed we can stick to our game plan and win a game of football at a canter even when the support is shit and the crowd are inexcplicably on their backs. That somewhat dispells the theory that the crowd make us lose games. So come on blades, no excuses. More of the same please.

The crowd was on their backs because of the season so far, not anything they did or didn't do last night.

It's to be expected as well, our patience is wearing thin. Like it or lump it they play for a club with huge expectation in this league. They knew it when they signed on the dotted line.

They can't expect a club with 20k gates in the third tier to have fans who are happy to be just around the play off spots, especially with our history of failure at that stage.

Might be reasonable for the players of our club not to expect to be booed when they have led the match from the first minute and never looked like conceding. I know there is a bigger picture to consider, but the crowd reaction was disproportionate to what was happening on the pitch.

Fans have every right to voice their opinions but that huge expectation and thin patience will only make it harder for us to get out of this league, especially if we are booing a winning side - that's what Adkins was on about when he signed, all that "if we can be United" stuff.

Fleetwood were the worst side I've seen us play at the lane for years. Extremely negative. At 1-0 down in the second half Che was in the box, I counted 6 fleetwood players in front of him

They were strangely well organised though, all we wanted to do was keep the ball, even if that meant going back to Howard. We rarely lumped it.

It makes me wonder how bad they would've been if they'd come and had a go. And had we not time wasted 60 minutes by giving the ball to JCR to do nothing with then we might've scored 10!

Last night really tested me as a Blade!
The game itself was awful, United's game plan of several passes sideways and backwards with little or no movement off the ball culminating with a champagne style pass that went straight to the opposition was rubbish - If that is football then please let us revert to Harry bassett's Up and Under style with thrills and spills in each area !
It was slow, pedestrian with little or no imagination from hardly all the players with no interest in throw ins and little interest in corners (but we rarely beat the first man again)
It was just so predictable !
Yes we won 3-0 yet even when the goals went in it was hard work to generate any enthusiasm !
Perhaps I have been ground down by the mediocrity and apathy that seems to dominate the United side of late and I'm sorry, I am fast losing respect for a manager that was virtually tearing his hair out during the first half yet came on the radio enthusing about the performance !
If you think that the performance level last night was excellent Mr Adkins, then, I am wasting my time turning up week in week out because last night we won because the team we were playing were very, very poor !

Suppose some of this links to the thread regarding what you hear people say.
Last night the two behind me were moaning about going backwards (as usual). There was a situation where Freeman or JCR received the ball on halfway, facing the Blades goal, with two men marking him. He passed the ball back to one of the CH's and the calls from behind us were 'pass it forwards'. Now I only played in the Bentley League in Doncaster, but I know that you play the way you face etc. Another situation was a move where the ball went forwards to the edge of the area and round the midfield, back to the CH's and then forwards again. The whole passage of play ended with a goal, probably Sharp's. They were moaning about Sharp/Adams not passing properly, about the ball going forwards and then backwards.
Anyway a bit later they then contradicted themselves with the importance of retaining possession at all times including passing the ball backwards to enable the team to create space.

Thanks as always Roy, I always enjoy reading your blog (no matter what the result) just to see how opposition fans see us and our club/team.

In a way last night added a new dimension to the phrase "winning ugly". Fleetwood were on a par with Carlisle in the midweek fixture a couple of years ago. For me the failure to capitalise more on a clear supremacy rested on the perceived importance of a clean sheet/lack of confidence in our defence (delete whichever you see fit). We really don't look confident about defending a lead. Add to this - until Coutts ( can't believe I am saying this) came on we had no meaningful consistent outlet from defence -

( a) No-one able to bring the ball out like HM1,
(b) No-one to pass to as the rest of the players looked to be playing statues - do they work on movement ??

resulting in interminable passes across the back 4 and Howard. Credit to Fleetwood's marking but our players really do need to move and pass quicker when the opposition press. Collins must have had more of the ball than anyone in the 90.

Three points it was, three nil it was but it still felt like a nervy, under-confident performance. You would have to be crazy not to welcome the points, but there are 3-0 performances and 3-0 performances and that one wasn't one of the better ones. With luck the organisation, teamwork, mutual understanding and confidence within the team will grow from these scrappy wins. I hope so.
