Hammonds best position

Don't know where you work but if a guy comes in and earns 5 times more than everyone else ,do you think that would work ?
I am willing to bet 95% of people on here have never even seen him play ,I know I haven't.
Its like Pele turning out for the lags team in Escape To Victory if the posts on here are to be believed. I've heard of him when we had some interest in him around 2008 then not heard a peep about him since.

I try to be optimistic, honest - but I've got a horrible feeling that if we do manage to drag this one over the line, it'll only be two or three games before Hammond either gets injured or becomes the target of the "He's not all that, is he?" brigade.

Having said that, it does seem odd to me that managers as experienced as Clough and Adkins seem to get so fixated on one particular signing - first O'Grady and now Hammond. They may very well be decent players, but surely there are other options worth looking at.

I hope he's better than Elvis Hammond, I'm sure he played for Leicester and he was awful.

Because its CM we are most desperate at. Can't you tell? It's the battle we lose every single game.

Seemed fine once we switched to three in CM, which is what I've been saying is the problem all along

Our three man midfield has been outplayed by the footballing powerhouses of Oldham and Rochdale in the last two games, do you honestly not think it's an issue?

The reason the defence has looked so bad is because it's constantly facing up to midfield runners that our 3 either can't or won't track.

He was indeed terrible...didn't stop him scoring against us when we got smashed 4-2 at Leicester in the promotion season. That was during the period when Warnock was hoping to get the Portsmouth job, IIRC.

That's not exactly fixing the problem, is it? And we were still losing the midfield battle, we were just out attacking it. Hammod should give us the ability to control the game much better. It will give out creative players more chance to do what they do.

It seems to be either or with us, Both Centre Midfield AND Centre Back need sorting, and have done for approaching 2 years now.

I do think we need to improve at CB, but I think controlling the middle of the pitch will make us look like a completely different team, and then CBs will have less to do, so less chance of mistakes etc. Ours tend to be involved more than the midfield, which shouldnt be happening.

I don't really see him as "box to box". I think he's more like Doyle in his positional play but better with the ball and bigger. Shoudl certainly improve our mdifield if anything like match fit.

Hope Hammond can do the dirty work and let others like Baxter, Done and Adams play. But, by the sounds of it he can also play, which will be a bonus.

If he's a hard tackling, composed, creative box to box player like I'm hearing, then I don't want to see him anywhere other than centre midfield.

I would imagine, given the experience of our "square pegs in round holes" strategy which has served us so well over the last 2 years or so, we shall see Hammond debuting at left full-back .....
