Sounds like a lot more work needed on the training pitch to improve the standard of deliveries and crosses. Nigel says we are working on them but they obviously don't seem to be getting it.

Bloody hell. Probably the most complimentary opposition fans I've seen yet!

Even happier with the point now.

Totally agree Tyler. Pretty confident bunch and seem rightly pleased with what they have achieved. None of the expected talk of us being Billy Big Time Bollocks being cut down a peg or two. Decent set.

Basically still a set of non league supporters, who just love the game and the craic.
They're yet to be infiltrated by the glory seeking gobshite know nowts that most clubs pick up during their successful periods.

They did seem very friendly ,but in a weird way naïve and soft. Did they really think they would hurt us by singing 'Wheres your Cloughie gone ' ? Don't know what the capacity is but it must have been close last night.

I think it was banter. Proper old fashioned banter, harmless piss taking as opposed to what now passes for 'bantz', which is mainly calling someone a cunt and then saying 'only joking'.

If you support a smaller side you know you're never going to play in the champions league or win a cup and most seasons you'll lose as many as you win. You have to have a different mentality, accept what your club is and just enjoy it.

The fan equivalents to Positive Nige as manager:

"... a goodun ... Great result ... well done lads ... Really enjoyed that ... outstanding ... Excellent game ... tremendous workrate ... "

Quite strange to read, in this day & age. But - meant straight-up & not patronisingly - genuinely nice.

It's the right way to support your club. Have a day (or evening) out and enjoy it. If you lose, be a bit pissed off and then get on with the rest of your life rather than phoning up a radio station demanding the manager is sacked and then four hours on a MB spewing bile when you should be with your family or out with your mates.
Too many people are brainwashed by the media into thinking football is more important than it is, so it becomes more important than it should be.
I hate it when people say 'football is a religion'. No it fucking isn't. It's an insult to both football and religion to say that and just what those greasy marketing cunts want you to think when they're trying to sell you a Sky subscription.

Organised religion can, frankly, kiss my fucking arse. Football isn't a religion. It's far more important than that, at least to me and to many other people too. I don't believe in God, so religion is about as important to me as unicorns and pixies.

Think that's what we all generally do when we're top half Championship chasing the play offs.

Get out of this league and start enjoying it again.

Really? I don't think 2004/5 was enjoyed by many. Give it two years in the championship and it'll be 'we've got to get out of this fucking league', just like it was from 2007 until we did get out of the league, the wrong way.

but... but .... we are a big side aren't we ... .... just checking as I was scared I was developing a small club mentality :p

Pity more people round here haven't worked this out yet.

Not being contrary, but there were quite a few bits of 04/05 I enjoyed. Beating West Ham on pens in the cup on a Sunday, drawing with the league champions at Highbury, and completing a 6-0 league double over Leeds.

Yeah, doing the double over Leeds is always good but overall most people felt post triple assault the next two seasons were disappointing.

No, we're a medium sized club which, in some ways, is the most difficult to support. You rarely win owt and your expectations and ambitions tend to be slightly too high. Three quarters of the championship and a couple in L1 all think they're underachieving.

Agree with that, but I was making the point that 04/05 was not as bad as everyone seems to remember.

Exactly this. It is one of the reasons I started watching Burton when I moved down here and why I continue to to the odd Tuesday game with my Burton supporting friends.

They were a Northern Prem club who had the odd flirt in the then equivilent of the Conference North. Even when they built The Pirelli which is a cracking little ground it lost none of it's charm and high in the Conference was seen as the peak for them.

The fact they are now top of league one with JFH in charge is a bit of a surreal thing, but it honestly has lost none of that non league charm. Peas with your pie, terrace on 3 sides and a cracking pitch with good folk. Cracking little club.

Historically, until the depression hit in the 30's, we would have been considered a top side, having won the cup 4 times to that point (the FA Cup having more prestige then). Since then we've been a bit of a yo yo club between (in old money) Div 1 and 2 and now we're probably, quality of team wise, at our lowest point since the late seventies/mid eighties. The point being that our expectation levels are much higher and especially the older fans who still remember TC and Woody. Whereas to Burton fans, this period IS like winning the Champions League, as they're a good 3 or 4 leagues above where they've historically been - so no wonder they can afford to be gracious! To them, they must be 'living the dream'.
