Have your own way lads.

We're a tiny club with no history who are on par with the likes of Rotherham and Burton Albion.

Why should a tiny club like ours dream about getting promoted out of this god awful league.

We've found our level.

No ones saying we're a tiny club. We're a club currently punching a division below our level.

By this logic, I can assume that Hitler has a clean slate for you? Or are you just discounting history not in your life time that suits your agenda?

To be specific I started watching us in 1961, thats 54 seasons
15 have been in the top division
1 in division 4
8 in div 3
so thats 30 in div 2, the championship
so its fair to say wed even out as a 6th to 9th placed or so championship side , purely on facts regarding finishes

in my mind we should be too strong for league one , but weve come up a tad short in 4 attempts
we will get back as its our level to me a competing championship side, from what Ive supported through the lean years
ie since I started watching

I started watching us when we were in division 4 , we dicked it in one attempt
Since then ive seen us in all 4 divisions , this thread wasnt about the size of the club or its history its about NOW and where we are NOW sunday the 27 th sept

Not where we will be in may or where we were in 2007 or what crowds we have got but where we are now

6th place in league one behind 5 teams who wouldnt look out of place in non league football
Its great that we won by thats the reality

If this season so far ( or the previous 4) is anything to go by then the consistency needed to get us above them wont come

Ive been continually shouted down from when I said letting maguire go and not securing coady would mean a play off failure by people saying the exact same things they are saying now

Its like chuffing ground hog day

Do you think Coventry City are a bigger football club than Sheffield United? Ask yourself that.

In fact, do you also think fucking Wigan are bigger than us?

Simple in my mind, in recent decades Coventry City have been more successful than us. In recent years they have had much more woe than us and a haemorrhage of fans as a consequence of Sisu.

But, really, I find this "bigger club" business all a bit confusing. What's the definition of the measure? To steal an argument used by someone cleverer than me...

Who is the bigger club, Blades or Cov? The answer is 42.

Just pick whichever time frame suits your argument, I guess.

I agree. I am one for taking the long term view, as indeed I should imagine Coventry City fans do when the look across at Leicester. That's why I pin my colours to the mast by saying we ARE a big club, because we always have been. Coventry City have been a big club in their time, but (and it's a warning to any club) they have been fucked over to such a strong extent, they have a real danger of slipping away, hence my mate gets a season ticket, sat above the halfway line for £260.

thats very disrespectful
bury were formed in 1886 and have always been a league club , they were in div 2 with united when I started watching in 61
walsall were formed in 1888 the year before us and joined the league in 1893
coventry again were formed before us 1883 like gillingham in 1888
both geting in the league in 1920 the year leeds and rotherham got in

I find your your remarks towards them a bit arrogant sort of stuff Id expect from pig fans , not ours

only burton are new boys
and I remember wigan and Wimbledon joining the league in my lifetime and both spending longer in the prem than us in the last 40 seasons

yes they get small gates now but we dont have man utd and man citys ground on the same tram route

and once again how many league points do we get for getting 19000 gates
do we get more than Burys 4000 get

what are Bournemouth doing in the prem with their gates

It is like being trapped in a time warp , Ground Hog Day , in Punxsutawney town , with a reoccurring theme to Bill Murray and Co. However taking the Adkins positive line , Bill Murray ( Kevin McCabe ) , learns from all his mistakes , and all is well , that ends well . :D

the hilarious argument that more fans mean better fans and bigger club.

What the fuck have gates got to do with it ?
We dont put eleven gates out on the pitch do we ?

Your argument is totally illogical
You cast aside the size of our club its history , the money weve spent on players and the comparative strengths and weaknesses of our vastly more expensive players
You bring in ridiculous comparisons about man city ,man united our fans moaning if we beat chelsea 6-1

So youre basically saying we are shit
Weve always been shit and we should be happy being shit because ....well i dont know why

Meanwhile your poolside on the costa del sol supping pina coladas telling everyone to stop.moaning as we flounder around lg 1 year in year out

In my personal opinion sheffield united are too big for league one
In my lifetime we have usually cast this division aside like a used plastercast and oncentrated on trying to get in the top or staying in the top division

I cant get on board with your attitude and basically accusing me of being a pig because i think we are bigger than bury is disgusting

Jeez there's some on here desperate to make out United aren't a big club or don't have the potential to be an established top flight club.

Not sure what they see when they look at us compared to other clubs but sure as hell isn't the same as me.

Leicester, Norwich, Southampton, Swansea, Palace and Watford in the current Premier League.

Wigan, Fulham, Qpe, Bolton, Coventry and Charlton all had long stints in the Prem,

Are people seriously try to say our level is the Championship when we have a far bigger fanbase and associated potential than every single one of them?

They've proved it can be done. If they can do it we certainly can. Our level is the top flight, where we've spent the majority of our history by the way, still.

But where does the argument end? My team Bradford spent 10 years in the top tier 100 years ago. My team Bradford won the FA Cup in 1915 but that was just a year after the First World War.

By the way, FattyFoulke you don't belong in the Premier League unless every football fan is about 95 years old. To put it into context, the last time Sheffield United had a long run in the Premier League (existence to 1934) Huddersfield Town finished 2nd in the league. So, by the same logic, then Huddersfield must also belong in the Premier League?? They've won the League 3 times and won the FA Cup and been finalists 5 times.

Would any football fan who's under 100 years old really say Huddersfield belong in the Premier League?

Hey Fatty....do PNE also belong in the Premier League? They certainly have a more prestigious past then Sheffield United if you want to go back over 100 years. Face it, footballs changed, Sheffield United don't belong in the Premier League.

Reading this thread confirms to me that a lot of the fanbase have over the years been conditioned by mediocrity to accept mediocrity, I can understand this to a certain extent from the younger fans who have never seen us any different but even then we have the infrastructure of a premiership club as well as the support one or two up there can only dream about so what the hell is up with you all. We went to a semi final in the FA cup and sold out our allocation, got a few thousand more tickets and sold them too, add to that club England seats had thousands of Blades sat in them yet Hull at the time enjoying the best they have ever done in their history still couldn't sell 30,000. If the pigs had done it you would never hear the last of it why do Blades fans always have to talk the club down is it just a defence mechanism to explain that at the moment we are shit ? Myself I'd rather say it as it is we are a big no ............ we are a huge club let down by years of mismanagement from the very top hence we are always the bridesmaid never the bride, if we had had owners with serious ambition we would be a mid table premiership club with a need to increase capacity at the lane rather than looking to build student flats and such shit behind the stands or offices to sit empty in the corner of the kop.

I didn't say we belong there, I said it was our level taking all things into account. Slightly different.

...and no I wouldn't say Huddersfielld belong in the Premier League but if they had our support I would say that would be their natural level.

we have the infrastructure of a premiership club

I'm not convinced this is the case any more tbh. Certainly not more so than half the Championship. We certainly don't have the scouting set-up for one. Reading, for instance, have an Elite level academy. We don't.

Preston would certainly have more claim than Bradford but not us for same reasons given above.

We have the history, facilities, infrastructure and support to sustain a top flight club.

That's the difference.

Agree metal blade. Our gate yesterday was higher than any championship game yesterday, yet we have fans that slate other fans that demand better than we have got now or have had for the last few seasons. It's makes my blood boil to see us pissing about in this league.

No it isn't. What bloody history? We won the FA Cup in between the Wars too for God sake.

Let's be honest if you had all that you wouldn't have spent 25 years out of the last 30 out of the top division.

Keep fooling yourself.

Where does this 'we're better than this league' attitude come from? Is it because you won the FA Cup 90 years ago?

I thought our fans were deluded....

Yet the massive's academy is in a blow up tent just to add a bit of perspective ;)

I thought you were a twat, but now I realise your being ironic. But I can't bring myself to give you your first like (because you obviously need it too much)
