Whatever the result today, the first half has shown up some huge problems we have:
1. Communication at the back is non-existent. It seemed like Howard called for it on the goal, but both he and Basham were on the back foot when it broke loose. There seems a lack of knowing who to pick up at corners and some of the passing around the back looks shaky to be polite.
2. Pressing and standing off. We don't press them, we allow the opposition to pick a pass unless it's in the last 3rd. When they come towards us with the ball, we stand off them and allow them to get crosses in.
3. Movement. We have none. No one is offering themselves up for the ball or making movement to the sides or forward when we're on the ball. Players aren't supporting each other. The only one who has show anything today is Billy.
4. Long ball hoof and bypassing the midfield. I understand this the least out of all our problems. We have two players who are not known for their aerial ability upfront, and we spent the first 25 minutes hoofing random balls up to them. It's not going through the midfield, they weren't even trying to go through the midfield. Not that we really have a midfield.
5. Throw Ins. No one wants it or wants to make a run. They all run off somewhere else.
6. Defending corners. Dear God. There's no one guarding the front post or following deep runs!
7. Sitting too deep. Yes, Cole is quick but we're so deep that we're basically giving up and area of the pitch and letting them attack us.
They haven't played well at all yet they're 1-0 up and almost had a couple more. We've offered zero going forward. We're too slow.No one seems to be able to control the ball or pass it accurately.
It can only get better?
