Before I get stuck in, let me make clear my stance on the manager. I do not want him sacked. That would be both pointless and cost worthy, neither of which can be afforded to happen in our circumstances.
I mentioned pre-season before and after Clough was sacked and Adkins appointed the direction I thought we ought to be heading in. A direction that attempted to offload the array of mediocre, lethargic fools Clough had a passion for. A direction that signed talented, physical athletes of whom actually have a desire to play for the shirt they pull on.
Instead, Adkins started out by 'assessing what we have'. An awful decision. From that moment is when my doubts over this season began to arise. Video footage/analysis of last seasons games is all it would have taken to clarify this bunch of jokers really are the same ones that finished 20 points off promotion last season, and even more off 1st position.
After this month long assessment, Adkins then continues to ignore the number one priority of 10 months, the gaping hole in the defence. In fact, it took him over 2 months to sign a defender, in which time he'd had no trouble in bringing in two overpriced strikers and a journeyman winger that a club in our league released.
It had to take a 4-0 demolition to finally wake him up. From that point I think he realised how large of a mistake it was to sit on his hands for 2 months fucking around with players we didn't need half as much as defenders.
It even looked as though we were quite content heading in to the season with McEveley and Collins as a CB pairing. How silly does that look now?
I'm not going to propose a proportionality of blame between the board and the manager but ultimately Adkins must surely shoulder a good portion of responsibility for the mistakes that are proving so costly now.
As harsh as it sounds, there's absolutely no excuse for not getting those desperately needed players in. Not having the finances available doesn't wash with me either, the money spent on Sharp, Sammon and Woolford was there to be spent and spent wisely. And no doubt that would have been a lot of money for this league with how much we dished out for Sharp and are currently dishing out for the 3 wages.
As a side note, this is neither hysterics nor a meltdown before anyone pipes up with that one. Merely a reflection and realisation of how bad things have become.
As for Jim and Adkins' twitter antics; Sorry but wouldn't it be far more beneficial to focus on sorting out mine and many others beloved club before you make up bullshit excuses to not spend a penny of the money we got for selling our best player. And sorry but after successive home defeats to Bury and Colchester, the last things I want to see from the manager is some desperate bullshit post about riding a fucking bladeacoaster. What in the book of fucks is that?
Fuck me it's embarrassing. Get your act together. Players, Manager, Board, the lot of you.
