For a start we still do not have the squad to make 4-4-2 a success. No ideal partner for Basham in the middle, opponents running through our defence like a knife to butter. Our strikers are slow compared to the whippets that other League One strikers who are loaned from Premiership/Championship clubs

4-5-1 at home doesn't sound so bad now...

Except we don't have anyone fit to play the wide attacking midfield/ wide striker roles

Basham isn't hardly lighting up the lane at the moment. He rarely offers himself which means Baxter comes deeper. He rarely makes a defence splitting pass either. A tad overrated if you ask me.

With the 'midfielders' we have we need to think about going back to three in there, but that doesn't mean reverting to the Clough mentality.

Sammon's looking far more droppable now so it shouldn't be as difficult from a selection point of view either.

But we still don't have a proper defensive midfielder. On top of that we barely have a playmaker/all rounder either if Wallace's injury problems persist. This should all have been factored in and addressed in the summer. We could even do with Doyle now - but I suppose he had to be released so McEveley and Howard could be rewarded for their mediocrity with new contracts.

JCR and Adams wide attackers.

Basham should be ok sweeping in front of the back four in a five man midfield

We need to sign Hammond or similar and maybe try K.Wallace until Coutts or J.Wallace is fit
