Is Kevin McCabe the best chairman we've ever had?

Yes, it would have been tragic if he'd got involved, we could have ended up like Leicester.

I think you have misunderstood the thrust of what I posted. I said that it was an irony that things could have turned out better despite all KM's best efforts and cash.

? Does anybody other than the two main men? But if KM says he is writing off the debt owed to him and that we will be "debt free" as a club going into the new era with the prince then I have no reason not to believe him. He had no need to say it.
So why don't the accounts say that? I'm an atheist so I struggle with blind faith.

Mandaric is a charlatan
theres prople who built their stadium in financial ruin
They ordered a 4-8 million stadium and paid 300k for it
Its more down to our corrupt legal system which again allowed him to launder money in Tiddles the cats swiss bank account, him and our Harry got off with murder , tax wise

Company law is an ass at times and "chancers/ shrew businessmen" know it inside out.

The real fun thing is the new Thai owner looks as big a bull shitter as Milan promising best butter and giving them Aldi emulsified spread
They do talk a good game , 3m bids here and 10 m bids there , buy some third rate Iberian player and pretend hes Luis Figo, s replacement

Yes, I did. I think we actually agree then.

I think weve had some awful bad luck along the way , west ham getting to play man utd reserves on the last day had man utd needed a point wed still have been in the prem
Getting 90 points and not getting promoted , very very rare
think its only occurred twice
relegation from the prem twice on 38 points
when hulls stayed up twice on 34
appointing robson , how unlucky was that

Poll and Dean refereeing key games
Ched
Jags pen, Webber's miss.
Scudamore/ Richards stitch-up
23 penalties
No strikers in starting eleven at Wembley time and again -not all a matter of luck I suppose
Blackwell doing well as caretaker
scoring 5 away and losing on aggregate - no defence this time!

Let's be clear: appointing Robson was not bad luck. It was monumentally stupid. Everyone except McCabe and Robinson thought so at the time.

I suspect the getting the ex England captain as manager was more to do with McCabe's delusions about making United a "global brand" rather than anything else.

Hmm.... this gives me an idea for a new thread!

was it
at the time he was well respected ex England stalwart Mr Man Utd
on paper , he had it all
unfortunately not in his head

Plus the ability to attract quality players when we had money to spend. We signed one on £40k p.week, one on £25k p.w. etc. etc.

No he wasn't. He'd been a disaster at Bradford and them unemployed.

Wednesday interviewed him for their job and everyone wanted them to get him.

I was not on this board when he was appointed but everyone on the boards I frequent and all the blades I know thought it was nuts to appoint him.

I didn't even think he was good on paper!
Shit at middlesboro, needed el tel to save him
shit at west brom, had one miracle run. Got sacked for being on the beer all the time.
As mentioned earlier, i was running a pub in Brum. When we appointed him all the WBA fans were saying " ya fucked now, ya don't want him!"

hindsight should be available before we appoint people

If memory serves that was the general opinion on here as well. Sadly, we weren't so big on polls back then.

i should have said they were saying it to me!
my gist is your director types go on qualifications, not the raw bread and butter stuff we learn
on a cv he read like all we needed
experienced respected a natural leader
who was to know what a drunken useless fucker he really was
and thats the positvie outlook on him

To be honest i thought everyone knew that about him. He speaks like he has an hangover, he looks punchy. I remember after getting sacked from WBA he had to defend his drinking as it was intimated that's why Peace got rid of him. Maybe it's because i lived in Manchester for a long time but everyone knew he was a piss pot!

again hindsight , great thing
rememberr most blades thinking wont be a bad one this

was like having first class free tickets for the Titanics maiden voyage
happy days ,a life of luxury ahead
what could possibly go wrong
i think the signing of beattie helped that illusion

In fairness McCabe is a self-made man.

In truth Robson's reputation was shot before he joined us. It was one of those "gobsmacking,WTF" moments when we heard of his appointment. It was only 8 years ago and we had loads o' money then.

We are a classic case of company decline in big instalments, manager by manager, then along came a prince and kissed the "sleeping beauty" called United. Fairy tale ending yet to happen?

I'm sorry, but this is untrue. It is flat out wrong. It is not hindsight.

Everyone thought it was a lousy appointment. You can't even remember his time at Bradford, which proved how awful he was. Fans of other clubs were laughing about it.

I'm sure you thought it as a good idea as you'd defend McCabe pissing in your cornflakes.

to be fair Brian Clough and Alex Ferguson are both of the same demeanor

of course its hindsight , we had no real idea what he was about
like most managers there were ups and downs on his cv

theres things on Adkins cv that arent in his favour

how often did we tell other clubs to avoid Warnock , no one listened
