Indeed:

Clough should have used the Maguire money to sign a centre back rather than Brayford = reasonable argument
Clough was forced by the Board to sign Brayford when he wanted to sign a centre back = utter craziness.

Do you know the answer to that? To your second one, maybe Clough did want to sign a centre back. He was quick to stick Brayford in there when we ran low on options. Who knows?

he's got sky sport has he? Oh well that's one game he'll see this season.

Well, if there are any games south of the M4 corridor, I expect I will see you there, yeah? Outside of that, there are many even on here reliant upon Sky and the TV highlights. How else do you suggest I see the game?

"Insults - sorry but your 'daft twats' was in post #1 so no one had insulted you at that point."

That being the crux of Bert's gripe with pommpey. Run round stamping your feet by all means but don't insult fellow Unitedites who see things differently or even those who agree.

Again, Bert should understand that the 'daft twats' and 'cabbages' descriptor was used in context to suggest the board see fans that way by dint of fact that they buy tickets, regardless of what misery they serially piss into their pockets, season upon season. Pommpey hopes Bert understands this and also prays that opposition fans gesticulating in an obscene manner and offering threats of violence and using colourful language in the direction of him and his fellow fans don't cause him too much distress.

A very clever way of avoiding going to Swindon. What a Blade.

I'm not in a position to be judged by you, sunshine. Get off your high horse and fuck off, eh?

As said, you want to get all billy big bastard Bladey Blade, you've lost your point and the argument.

Just logged in to contribute nothing to this thread. Seems to be going quite nicely without me.

Just a quick scan of the last few pages but my opinion is still of a angry Blade talking from behind.
I suppose I should furnish myself with the complete story to really qualify my opinion but then again that has to be bollocks as the Thread Starter does not / or has not got access to required information to make an informed judgement on the folk in charge of SUFC.
So my opinion stands.
pommpey , when you next up for Forum Football? A few may want to discuss this in person with you;).

Is that a threat, BR?

Yup, that's just about what this needs. If you can't talk this over rationally, offer people out.

G or H Block?

Bert went to his first football match in 1963, since then he's paid to see 1000+ games. Henceforth, he has heard the odd swearword and encountered a few gesticulating ruffians. You will be delighted to hear that none of them distressed him.

Why does Pommpey end threads with Pommpey when his avatar says Pommpey? Does Pommpey like to see Pommpey all over Pommpeys Posts

Maybe he has no friends down there and finds it hatd to make them anywhere.
pommpey has been invited to Forum Footie but seems reluctant to attend. He must be shy in person.

If you don't go to games, you don't have the right to comment. On anything.

pommpey

Just out of interest and not having a go or anything, but why don't you go to games?

Personally I probably only go to about 4-5 games a season these days. That's because at the grand old age of 48 I tend to have better things to do that travel all round the country watching United. Maybe you are similar.

Obviously I still maintain a strong interest in United, but I do think that as I don't go to many games I am not really in a position to comment in detail on how the team plays. I feel justified in saying that a 4-0 defeat at Gillingham is shite, but not, for example, that Freeman (or whoever) had a mare in that game.

wasn't aware of where you live TBH, username suggested Portsmouth of course but they don't always make sense do they? I thought for some reason you were in Sheffield area. Blade in exile is different obviously, I can respect that. If I wasn't seeing any games at all though I personally wouldn't dream of coming on here and expressing such strong views as you.

Re "How else do you suggest I see the game?" - have you not got Bladesplayer? Well worth the £38 IMO.

out of interest, rather than travel around, do you not fancy any of the home games?

i reckon some people on here haven't grasped the fact that some of us don't 'actually' live in Sheffield.. in mine and Darrens case anywhere near Sheffield.. perhaps i should change my name to GrazBlade or AustrianBlade.. there's a clue in there somewhere ;)
You're from Syria?

duh, what a thickie I am not to have known ;)

I repeat what MobileBlade asked.

Is your point really that Clough said to the Board "I have a centre back I want to buy and we can use the Maguire money for that" and the Board said "no, you can only buy Brayford" and Clough cravenly said "ok"?

The Beard can play CH so Clough didn't compromise on anything.
As The Beard is injured we still need a CH.

I suggested when he was signed that Brayford had potentially been brought in as a solution to the centre-half problem, so unlike many wasn't shocked when Clough switched him there. In fact, if no other centre-half comes in I'd be tempted to play him alongside Edgar when he returns from injury, particularly given Freeman's steady rise this season. What's the better defence: Brayford, Collins, Edgar, McEveley OR Freeman, Brayford, Edgar, McEveley? I think the latter shades it personally.

Brayford played at CH for a while at Burton I believe, but there is one statistic that needs to be borne in mind before slotting him in at CH - He is only 5'8" tall. Two inches smaller than Kennedy and TK is small for a CH. Not a credible option for the automatics in my view.

How small os the man with the inappropriate name who used to play CH for us occasionally - Matt Hill?

Too small. He wasn't very good and HM never played as well when partnered by him. Bit like an elephant is supposed to be scared of mice.

Brayford as a centre half????

How many people have banged on for how many years about what is needed to get out of this division?

Strength/power/height...........to name but three major attributes

The simple fact that Edgar is 6' 4" and Adkins tried to sign Burn at 6' 7" should answer everyone's points.....yet again.

Adkins obviously agrees with what fans think.

Brayford as CH............wow, just wow.

UTB

All very good to say "just wow" but in the event that we don't get a 6'7 beanpole, or indeed any other centre-half, it may be a preferable option. I don't think Freeman deserves dropping, and Brayford's performances in the middle last season suggest he'd push Collins for a place. This is assuming that Kennevaro is still being nursed back to fitness rather than rushed back into the team of course...
