But as a matter of logic, it's possible for him to be both a hypocrite and have a valid argument is it not?
Not for me, no.

I think you accept that MCabe has invested heavily. Yours, and my issue, is that his decisions have been rubbish.

Pommpey states that he should put more in ( in fact often suggests he takes a fortune out).

Clubs income, at our level, is made up to a large extent, by fan input at the gate.

In my opinion, if I had the ability to put something in, and didn't, I'd keep quiet about other peoples input.

Don't think it's really that black and white though Pompey. There's no doubt that we are currently punching below our weight in Div 3 but that's where we are. We've also, historically, sold our best players for as long as I can remember - going back to Mick Jones, Geoff Salmons etc. Unfortunately we have to accept that we are a div 3 side at the moment because that is a fact, and as such we will continue to lose our better players particularly if they want to play at a higher level and another club matches our valuation of said player. I think what is happening at the moment, however, is that the latest sale doesn't, at the moment, appear to have had a massive impact so maybe, just maybe, some people who were mortified at the Gillingham performance and then the sale of Murphy might be thinking that the manager we have has the ability to deliver. The last few league games (and you're right to say that it's only 4) suggest that there might be some substance to their feelings but there is still a long, long way to go. Personally, I like what I'm seeing and am hoping that we can continue to win games and it gets us to where, again you correctly say, to where we probably realistically belong.

I don't think that just because anyone is positive about the current position (i.e. the start to the season) it means that they're happy that we're in Div 3 or that we have sold probably our best player from last season. Just my opinion.

And I can't disagree much with that. We started dreadfully, with a dismal loss to a side clearly nipping themseleves as they left the pitch because we capitulated so easily. And (as has been said, so many times) we finished last season with a far from complete back four and began this season with the same, and were found out. I didn't see the swordsmen out and about on the evening of 08 Aug 2015 reinforcing the ramparts then. Then Murphy is dropped and we know what happened next. It's the 'lack of surprise and acceptance' that boiled my piss somewhat, almost as if its the Blades Way now to do this and just hope summat turns out great.

And now, of course, we have strung a run of wins together, the indignantion and bile is out in force. Bring it on. All I have to do it point at the league we play in the past five seasons.

I understand the moral argument, but I think as a matter of logic it is flawed.

His argument is, as I understand it, that if McCabe put more money into the club, United would do better. That argument is probably true.

Your response to that is to say it is hypocritical for someone who puts no money into the club to demand someone else puts more money in. That is also probably true.

You are arguing at cross purposes because he wants you to address the neutral factual argument ("does the owner investing more money equal a better a team"),whilst you want to address the moral argument.

On a moral level I am, as you say, with you. McCabe's involvement in the club has been a financial disaster for him. However, I can understand Pommpey's frustration that he wants you to address the factual argument whereas you insist on acting like some moral prophet :-)

Straw man?

You invest nothing. You demand that someone else does.

It's a hypocritical stance.

There's no need for an essay each time, by the way. Even allowing for the standard 3 insults.

UTB

No, and like it or not, I will type for as long as I feel I need to, not you, and as a football fan (and giant Billy fucking Blade) I am slightly surprised that stuff posted on here hurts your poor soul so deeply. Ever stood in the old G and H Block. Yes! I HAVE! YAY ME! I was so insulted by what the opposition fans were saying. I was, y'know ...

Anyway ...

If you have missed it, I'd like some clarity on what you understand by the term 'Game Changing Investments' and then describe, if you will, where that is evident and how that has changed our game in the past three years.

Please also show how this has some connectivity with the sale of Murphy, Maguire, McDonald ... even players like Blackman and the Kyles.

Because since we have outwardly invested in other clubs, we seem to have gone fucking nowhere, haven't we?

But, y'know. There's always people around to shout down the critics and buy tickets and cheer on dogshit.

Well, there's no formula about exactly how much someone should, or even has the ability to invest.

If, despite all evidence to the contrary, your standpoint is that McCabe has bled us dry, you can't really defend yourself with someone else refusing to provide exact numbers.

There's also no formula for how often a distant fan should attend. However, when it's "never", it puts you firmly in the "I'd keep my trap shut if I were you" bracket, in my view. :)

Why? Where is your demarcation, or is that arbitrary?

So, anyone who calls himself a Sheffield United fan who doesn't go to a game is by your yardstick, not entitled to any opinion about the club, ever?

Everyone else listening to this?

You'd all best go to a game every now and then - and make the evidence of your attendance clear, because you are non-Blade wankers.

So, because you don't put money into the club, or attend matches, you have no right to voice an opinion?

Anything else?

pommpey

Found this in an old text book:

Maslow's Hierarchy of Blades Opinion

Prince/McCabe
Executive Directors
Minority Shareholders
Supporters Attending Matches
Forum Members Not Attending Matches

Due to work commitments I haven't been to a match for a while, I don't feel I can give an honest opinion on any match that I have not been to, I can only comment on video evidence I have seen. The running of the club however is even harder to comment on. We can only give a constructive view if we are informed fully of events such as selling off our better player or how much is being put into the club, if not I try not to comment, just my view guys, but I don't feel any less a blade.

Nope. Seems like you are marginalising a hell of a lot of Blades fans, both in the UK and even in Sheffield and abroad, who for their own reasons, don't go to Bramall Lane as much as big massive Bladey Blades like you.

All of them above some or other demarcation line are worthy and many below are not.

And of course there's another criteria that you 'have to put money into the club'.

Your opinion. Massive Blade.

Listen Bladebri. You are at the mercy of the judgement of giant Blades like Alcoblabe who actually owns Sheffield United and it's offshoot companies and has his arm up McCabe's starfish, steering the club from within.

You haven't been to a match for a while? Log off, burn your United chattels and never darken the door again.

There.

Gentlemen please!!
I feel a Linz intervention not far away.

You are the only one who stands out as shouting so much and offering so little.

That might just be because you're a complete gobshite though.

My post wasn't in any way taking side with you or Alcoblade, I would love to be able to go to the games, I have been following SU for 50 years in between meeting girls that took my eye of the ball a few times, I don't think Alcoblade would see me as any less of a blade than he is, anything in life can stop you being able to go to matches, but it's the first result you look for on a Tuesday or Saturday.

Yup. Pleasure to be so.

Hey. Have a look at the division we are in and square some of my comments about Game Changing Investments, why don't you. If you can't (which you can't) then I can't help your bitterness.

amazing how the mood changes after a couple of wins. don't forget. pompeys opinions will be back if we lose a few.. yes .. you lot.. self included

You just don't get it do you! You slag Blades off, left, right and centre and when we take the piss out of you, you just don't like it. It's never about how big we Blades are, it's about mutual respect just because we are all Blades. You just can't seem to resist getting nasty. And we all know your niece went out with Tonge, not exactly a big deal.

You want to widen the debate. Most of your spouting goes over my head. To be honest, though you absolutely love the sound of your own voice, I find your posts really boring.

I've stated my problem with your stance. I've no interest in expanding the dialogue.

I don't think it's billy big bollocks, I truly believe both Pommpey and Alcoblade have passion for the Blades, but in different ways and views, and to be honest I think that is a good thing, I couldn't do with it all being one sided.

Not making it one Northyorks. I used that to illustrate some other posters remarks about some song I cobbled together on Cubase twelve or so years ago for shits and giggles (and the (and sold) bit went soaring over your head as well, didn't it?)

I don't 'slag Blades off left right and centre' as you attest. I question their loyalty when they eagerly buy season tickets in craven anticipation of the new season and then as soon as the bank transaction is over, we have flogged our best player, like we did last season, the season before and the season before that. And then people ask 'why are we so shit?' and 'why are we still in the third division?'

Tell the 'big bladey blade' stuff to Alco, why don't you. As far as I am concerned, we are all Unitedites, some a little more delusional than others.

So its 'pommpey blade' who makes you a bit tearful, not Sheffield United's continued campaign for promotion? Strange how my spouting goes over your head, yet others either 'agree' or 'disagree'. They understand it. Why not you?

Just make use of the ignore button, eh? There's a good chap. I won't mind. If you can't differentiate between the club and my opinion and either offer countering opinion or ignore it, then you have the snags, not me. As said, you are not the moral guardian round here. No one is. Its a fucking internet forum, not real life.
