Very good attacking performance, feed the fish and he will score! The bloke has had a part in 4 of our 5 league goals, very impressed with him holing the ball up, his touch, and he can move too. Billy is trying his heart out and I feel he's getting closer to that first goal. The two injuries really affected us and mucked up some of the preparation, and we looked shaky for the end of the first half. Boro came flying out the traps in the 2nd half and put a real shift in, I thought they'd get back into it and surely enough the scored a good goal. What impressed me was our reaction. Campbell-Ryce only made two good crosses and they were both low and hard, which is what he's good at, where he impressed me though was running through the middle of the park, caused really problems. Che was great going forward but left young Wallace exposed at left back at times, needs to focus on some defensive responsibilities, but assisted the second goal well. James Wallace was excellent when he came on, played a huge part in the third goal. I understand why Baxter comes deep to get the ball as early very creative but he passes back without looking too much and his goal proved he's far more valuable further up the pitch. Although McEveley made a couple of good headers, and I try to give him a chance, he was terrible again. Looked okay at left back but when he had to move to CB he was awful, passes astray and looked out of place. Howard made a good save, and although there's some moaning in this I really enjoyed a good attacking performance. All in all an excellent away day. UTB!

Great stuff! So many positives!

Really think that when the first goes in for Billy, he'll get on a roll. That partnership's already sounding summat special.

Agree with a that. Thought Freeman started poorly and was the cause of Scougal getting injured as he had to cover behind him and put in the tackle that cost him. Other than that good away performance much improved.

I agree. I hope his partner's great start does not make Billy feel like a fish out of water....

just got in and seen the result,,,
cracking

the first day horror is fast melting in a haze of positivity
ADKINS HAS SEEN WHATS NEEDED
AND ACTED ON IT
We can ask no more

Woke up just in time to hear Baxter seal the deal. Can't wait for Saturday!

Sounds like a good performance from us, wish I'd been able to go! Certainly looking forward to Saturdays game now. Glad Baxter got on the scoresheet too

Scougall's injury looks like ankle ligaments I reckon and he should've come straight off.

Collins. Don't know. Nothing obvious.

Left side is very shaky. McEveley I've defended plenty but he is making all sorts of mistakes at left back and especially at centre back.

Adams is not doing the defensive side of his job yet. But in a way this just fits in with our let's-outscore-you approach. A 7-3 win would've been about right.

I think we are still too deep. Sammon and Sharp win possession but there's often a 30 or 40 yard gap to the midfield.

We give away possession in our half with misplaced passes far too often, this was happening pre-season as well. Thing is I don't think we've conceded this way yet.

Howard made one good save and looked solid.

Wallace's reading of the game and run for the third was top class.

JCR kept possession well and put in way more than two good crosses I've seen mentioned elsewhere.

Kieron Wallace looked very good and occasionally had the air of a seasoned pro, and much less occasionally looked like he'd wandered on to the pitch from the local park.

I don't think we're scoring enough from the chances we create. And a better team would've exploited our weaknesses much more.

That said I think the approach is to concentrate on attacking and scoring.

It was real heart in mouth stuff most of the night.

There are going to be a lot of goals this season.

If you go on Radio Sheffield Audioboom there's a good interview with Adkins and another with Sammon.

I've defended McEveley on here before (more than he has) but I really hope the manager gets in at least another quality defender in before the window closes, especially now that Collins could be out and it's likely Edgar will miss games due to international call-ups.

Fantastic result tonight. Great to see us scoring goals again!

Highlight of the Match (okay just behind the goals):

Their big strong lad at centre half had been getting plenty of grief all match for his distribution - made Collins look like Beckenbauer.

About an hour in he had time and space 30 yards out and decided to show us all what he could really do, he strode forward, pulled his foot back, and unleashed the ball...onto the roof of their end, where it bounced once, and sailed out of the ground.

Cheers all round.

A great moment.

:-)

I am not too keen on that "feed the fish" chant.

It is a bit derogatory if you ask me, who would want to likened to a fish?

Very good away win against a mid-table side.

To take issue with the OP:

JCR put more than two decent crosses in..and when he moved more central 2nd half he caused havoc..their big CB's( was it four Cb's at the end?) didn't know what to do...

Billy: did great till he was blowin out his arse on around 60 mins or so..shame that one didn't go in that bounced back of the Stantion...

Che: got to say it, was blowin out his arse after ten mins or so, his touch was off and not much went right until Adkins shoved him up top, out of the way after Billy went off...his flicks and stuff worked then and he drew some fouls...Sammon went back up top after the goals

Bash/Baxter: still a bit square pegs in the middle...Baxter did better higher up later and got a good goal

Sammon: Quality all round..the Cb's did ok against him, winning a lot of the headers, but, and it's a big but, Sammons always there..he must be a nightmare to play against because he's strong and he just doesn't stop...ever...two great finishes tonight to cap a MOM performance from me.

Edgar: just what we needed.

Jmac: ...should play it a lot simpler..he thinks he's better than he is, just clear it and realise your limitations and you might have a future in the first eleven.

Those were the key players for me, K Wallace did well on the whole when he came on and J Wallace is so obviously great we just have to hope he can keep it together fitness wise...the goal he set up was top drawer( in fact the last two were, and look like training ground routines with lots of players around the box at a late stage in the game, very encouraging!)

Rambling on a bit, that's the booze! Good three points.
Encouraging signs...
UTB!

In general, a good performance by most and a welcome win. Jay McCatastrophy seemed a little flustered at left back but woeful when he had to take over from Collins. Peterborough could have scored easily from 5 of his blunders. If he was going to have another performance similar to many of those last season, I'm glad that Nigel Adkins got to see it for himself before the transfer window closes.
It was great to see Connor get onto the score-sheet and receive fan support with his new song/chant in his honour. Other big plus points were the full 90 minutes of graft from Jose and an excellent cameo performance from James Wallace.

Just got back. Pissed up, celebrating a top performance and 3points happy days!

Aye, thought we looked good tonight. I'm biased towards JCR and sometimes his crossing is like anti aircraft fire, but whenever he gets the ball he wants to bomb forward. Sharp and Sammon looked a proper pair, moving passing, making space. Late in the game, as Baxter moved into that space, we were battering them. The most impressive things, for me, were the first touch and little lay offs that set attacks up and the way we had people running into spaces off the man with the ball.

They, that said, were pony. Their right back, fucking hell, they'd have been better off with Douglas Bader

He dropped several Major Clangers tonight, even at left back: passing to the opposition, heading the ball up in the air, clearing the ball straight up, not heading the ball at all; it really was painful at times.

He doesn't play badly on purpose, and he shouldn't get grief - but for me he's struggling. And it's not confidence, if anything some of the passes are, as suggested, overconfidence.

Major Clanger - who put in several appearances tonight

Someone should remind him of the late great Trevor Hockey, whose entire reason to be on the field ,was to get the ball ,and pass it to T,C, For T,C, insert the name of a current player who J. Mac should release the ball to.

We need three centre halves?

That was a great away trip – first time I've been to Peterborough, and I thought overall it was a very good performance.

Said at the game, when the equaliser went in against the run of play, last season we'd have folded. Last night you always felt with the way we were working the ball we'd get some good chances to hit back – in the end, the scoreline could/should have been more.

That being said, we rode our luck at the back – all of the final back 4 made at least one sizeable error I thought, to differing degrees. Howard was v solid. Edgar first half made a suicidal sideward pass that presented their striker with a run at Collins, Freeman (who tbh was our best defender overall) cheaply conceded possession that led to the painful Scougs challenge. While the rest probably had one error though, McEveley was all over the place at times. He does not inspire confidence. McEveley is the master of the cushioned header – he just can't get any power behind it. And in the spell just after the equaliser, where we looked a bit rattled, you look to your captain to lead by example. Several nice passes were ended by McEveley conceding possession needlessly. He is a problem I feel.

Going forward, JCR was positive and frustrating in equal measure. He buggered it up a couple of times when in possession, but worked hard to win it back. I see some say he crossed the ball well – I can't recall a single cross that accurately picked out anyone. He was far more useful in stretching their defence and passing it than he was in crossing it.

Baxter's best game of the season by far - looked up for it. Solidish game for Basham. The Ilkeston left-hand side effective going forward.

Up front, Sammon & Sharp have probably the best understanding of a strike partnership I've seen for quite some time. I realise it's been a while since we've seen any real strike partnership, and I for one didn't think there was enough pace for it to work. Sammon was excellent throughout, the goals capped a great all-round performance. Sharp linked up well throughout, highlighted by the first goal. so long as they're fit, they should be starting together as often as possible.

Great cameo from James Wallace btw.

Alluded to above, but the piss-taking of their number 12 was a big highlight. Blasted it over the stand, and for the next 5 minutes could do nothing right on the ball – mercilessly hounded on by the away end in unison. And some say the fans can have no effect on the players in front of them...

Wait till Done and Brayford are added to that lineup

This is crucial. We need to be 'there or thereabouts' in Oct/Nov when the injured players start returning. I think J C-R will be great for Done and, hopefully, we don't suffer any more 'panic' sales.

Agree with all the above, but then we did discuss it all at length during the game and on the train afterwards. Added to that, you were unlucky enough to hear my expert analysis on the half-time dancing girls (The Poshettes?), not to mention our sheer bewilderment regarding the half-time entertainment involving bright yellow wheelie bins and a giant skip, again bright yellow.

And really, what were those mascots all about? A white rabbit with a giant fucking carrot and two knock-off Bob-the-Builders?
