From the OS:

Sheffield United is seeking to appoint three match day volunteers to work alongside the Club's Supporters' Liaison Officer.

Their work will focus on improving contact and communications with fans on match days. They will work alongside the Club's Supporter Liaison Officer, John Garrett with the aim of improving contact and communication on match days.

The SLOs will be expected to be on site half an hour before the gates open and leave after a de- brief. The match day SLO Officer will wear Club branded apparel and will also be issued with an access pass to the stadium.

John said: "We want the individuals to become recognised and trusted faces in and around the stadium, part of our team and their roles to grow over a period of time in both stature and numbers.

"The whole idea is to lead by example at Bramall Lane. Over the course of the year each volunteer will also have a chance to travel to at least one of the regional Football League Supporters' Liaison Officers' Meetings."

Those wishing to apply should do so with full CV and covering letter to: Anna Schofield, Head of HR, Sheffield United FC, Bramall Lane, Sheffield S2 4SU. Alternatively email: [email protected]

The closing date for applications is Monday 24th August 2015
Thoughts? A good/bad idea? Any volunteers? (not for me I'm afraid, I like the pre-match pint/pub too much :D)

Volunteers??? Haven't we enough paid employees including John Garrett who could do this role? Typical Blades anything owt for nowt, just got 1.75 million for Murphy and don't want to pay anyone but give them some tacky club gear to wear instead.
Why don't they ask the the injured overpaid players to put in a shift instead of trading on fans goodwill.

Are you Grumpy, Are you Grumpy, Are you Grumpy in disguise... Are you Grumpy in disguise

I think we should be told

It's difficult to imagine a person who loves the club enough to volunteer for a fortnightly afternoon of unpaid work but doesn't mind missing the match.
I presume they won't be able to watch the match properly because they'll be too busy doing the "liaising" stuff.

This, pretty much.

Would you like to relinquish the season ticket you've paid for and miss every single home game to liaise with some nugget who can't find the ticket office/shop/bar/toilet/their own arse? No, thank you very much.

Shall we put you down as a maybe then...

Damn right. Bad enough having to "liase" with the fuckers on here without meeting the sour faced twats in person.
I'm out!

John Garrett is the Supporter Liaison Officer at the moment, but is also responsible for corporate tours at Bramall Lane on home matches so the club have acknowledged the need for additional people in the role to cover home matches as happens elsewhere - i.e. Donny and Barnsley.

I fancied this until I saw the "volunteers" bit. And then the thought that I might miss the match put me off even more, not forgetting how much I enjoy our pre-match optimism in the Rutty, and the miserable post-match postmortem if we've got time before our trains leave.

Which brings me to another point; if I'm to resurrect my hitching activities - and I plan to - I can't guarantee I'll be there before the turnstiles open.

So it's a 'no' from me.

However, I am available for after-dinner speeches.

Working for the club from 9 to 5 on working days would be a dream but I wouldnt want to work if it meant me missing the match action for a single minute. I wonder, on average, how many minutes of the home matches do the likes of Mick Rooker and John Garrett miss?

One of the reasons I stopped selling programmes was that you got a free ticket but this was usually tucked away in a corner somewhere and you didn't get any loyalty points for it. So having missed only a handfull of home games in years you would be way down the queue for tickets needing loyalty points. When we were in the Premiership and selling out every game it was a worry at that time it was rumoured that programme sellers at Newcastle were bunged into a room under the stand and had to watch the game on TV owing to there being a waiting list for ST's and very few tickets available on the day. Missed a few first minute goals in my time selling 50/50 tickets and programmes.

Zero minutes Silent, that's why they want people to work for zero recompense and miss the match as well all under the guise of Pinchy's Bladey Bladeyness.

I know for a fact that Mr Garrett missed both of the goals on Saturday because he came to see us for part of the second half.

It's not something unique to United. Most SLO roles in other clubs are filled by volunteers because I had a natter with them at the FSF summit.

If they are fans, and are volounteers, maybe the Club should kit em up with Blades Player

They wont miss the goals, they can watch em when they get home

So far I see absolutley no reason why anyone would want to do this.

Don't be surprised at what people will do for free stuff!
Failing any United fans wanting to do it, if they asked the Uni's I could see some students being interested - gets them a free game of football they wouldn't otherwise watch.
