Will protect the defence and will also move foward and score goals like he did for chesterfield today.

If we sign another midfielder before a defender or a goalkeeper I'll question everything I thought I knew about football
I would've said the same about a striker as well...

Priority in the summer was centre backs, then goal keeper, then central midfielders then striker... We bought a striker and a winger... We're -4 goals into a long season.

He'd be a great signing.

But Nige would need to ship a midfielder or two out as a consequence & I'm already wondering is he willing to upset anyone like that?
Sort of getting resigned now (already) to hearing the mantra "we'll be trying to improve the lads by working with them on the training field".

Basham cannot be a midfielder cos if that's how we control midfield, we're fucked!

He has to play CB while +ve Nige sorts out the blindingly obvious fucking problem he inherited that nobody else knows about

Shhhhhhhsh

He was our best defender last year because we didn't have any proven central defenders all year.
Round pegs in round holes please.

He's a steady, average central midfielder and a decent centre half. I was surprised to see that he had been elevated to some people's "first name on the team sheet" over the summer; particularly in central midfield. He's decent in the air and decent in the tackle, but not composed enough to control a midfield.

I'd like to see a fully fit James Wallace in central midfield and Basham at centre half.

Basham got one goal last season
ONE GOAL.
That's not a return from a box to box midfielder.

When you consider he was CB on many occasions and will have been up for set pieces - it makes that stat even worse.

He's not and never will be a box to box midfielder. He had always been a rb / cb and at worst an average holding midfielder. Move him to the back

Agree - but it's clear he thinks he is

He's a decent CB for me that can do the odd job in midfield if the situation dictates. But then it needs people in charge that can recognise that.

People saying 'we need Bashams physicality in midfield' from what i've seen, both Morsy and Wallace are tougher tacklers

Ran the show yesterday. Signing him would mean we don't need a centre half, just shift Basham back with Edgar. Two problems solved with one swoop.

I wouldn't say he ran the show. I thought O'Shea was much more comfortable on the ball for them, especially first half.

Fair enough, personally thought Morsy did. He did the same at the back end of last season too.

They couldn't score in a month of Sunday's! Nothing more he could really do IMO in a deep midfield role

The only people who ran the show were Che Adams and Conor Sammon who together ensured we achieved the object of the game twice....Ultimately Chez had two shots on target - no show-running there by any of their players.

Additionally David Edgar dominated their attackers so he perhaps ran the supporting show?...

I agree with the comments about Basham being better at Centre Back. He stood out playing there last season, particularly against higher level opposition. He struggles receiving the ball to feet from our back 4 and tends to just chase around. He's decent in the air, reasonably quick and can bring the ball out of defence to start attacks, if moved back. It was so obvious how much we were lacking in midfield on Saturday.

Morsy is quality, the best defensive midfielder in this league, he finds those pockets of space, and very rarely misplaces a pass. Championship quality IMO.
Reminds me of Leon Britton, in between his spells for us!

With all the teams picking at Chezzy's best players this summer, I'm surprised Morsy is still there. Would be a huge signing for us if we managed to get him

Heard a lot of chesterfield fans raving about him, worth a bid?
