Just a little mention Sharp, Sammon and in particular Edgar. All looked very very good yesterday. They looked like they were playing a level below them, even Sammon (who was outstanding).

Sammon held the ball up well, led the line, his link up play and pest value was second to none and his goal should have stood.

Billy played very well in the second half, was quite anonymous in the first. A huge upgrade on McNulty in his current stage of development. Looked sharp (pardon the pun), quick, and threatening. Had a great effort saved by the keeper too.

And with Edgar I don't even feel like I have to say anything. Just look at the 2 clean sheets since he came and that tells you everything. Having him at the back means we can play counter attacking football like we did because we can actually afford to let the opposition get near our box.

Woolford looked lively when he came on, and did a good job with the quick lad who came on for Chez. His only mistake was ballooning it over when he had options.

Special mentions for Howard, Collins, and obviously Che. All part of a good all round team performance and well deserved 3 points.

Agree with the positive assessment of the newcomers.

Credit to Adkins and the board for these players.

Woolford is a bit behind the others atm but is improving each game. Final ball needs to be better though, hopefully that will come.

Did put in a great cross in at the end, and as mentioned elsewhere used his experience to nullify a very tricky young winger.

Totally agree...... a good way to describe Edgar, Sammon and Sharp is
.........average run of the mill Championship players.

So playing in league 1 every week it's much easier for them and all 3 will stand out at this level.
You can tell they've all played at a higher level than league 1.

Very impressed with the defence and goalie yesterday.
Last season I panicked everytime the opposition had a corner as we were so nervous defending crosses.

The inclusion of Edgar is like having Maguire back as we looked so comfortable dealing with crosses.
Collins looked better and even our goalie Howard looked confident and played well.

Early days yet though but the new players look promising.

Likewise. He shocked me with his mobility as much as anything, really looks the real deal.

In my time watching the Blades I have seen some big hard strikers and Sammon is up there with the added bonus of being technically pretty handy as well.

When Billy signed part of me thought it was a backward step and he was past his best, but its still there in glimpses. He's not 100% match fit yet, and he's just regaining his finishing instinct but when it comes back he will bag for fun. He looks hungry, tenacious and I love how he gets under the defences skin.

Finally Edgar, looks outstanding I this league, wins everything!

While it was a good performance overall yesterday we still have a long way to go, it's early days but Edgar looks to be the best signing for me, very calm and collective and always seems to do what's required.

If he thinks the 'old boys' are better than what we've got I for one have no problem with that.
I certanly wouldn't mind him going for a few of his Southampton old boys, wonder what that Fonte is up to now?

I was one of those very critical of the former Chief Scout and the set-up. Turnbull only came into the job at the very end of June and has had a very short timescale to even get his feet under the table. Adkins was still assessing what he had inherited and probably didn't have much in the way of a refined shopping list (though CH should have been on there). I think its far too early to typecast or condemn Turnbull and I suspect there will be some modernisation behind the scenes which he will need to put in place. I for one am prepared to give the guy a fair crack of the whip.

Don't most managers sign old boys? Didn't Fergie bring Jim Leighton with him; Mourinho, Deco? Redknapp and Warnock, almost everyone, Bassett half of Wimbledon.

Genuinely don't see the problem with this, you know what you're getting.

As for Sammon, I'd say look no further than Mal Brannigan. I'd guess he's told Adkins 'I can get Sammon, do you want him' and Adkins went on for a bit about inner chimps, emotional capital, pma and pmt and eventually they assumed he was saying yes and signed him.

Not a Clough basher. But his signings Basham excluded were luxury players at this level. Neat touchers but no streetwise knowledge, easilly bullied. Weir included.. When he signed Cuvelier (who had a great season at Walsall before and not a player who I wish us to get rid of) after signing Baxter I got worried as there was no point. They both had ideas that we cried for when we were in the CHAMPIONSHIP especially under Blackwell. Unfortunately were in league 1. Clough I dont know what happened. He did everything right first year, stabilised us, dropped the flair players and then re-introduced them when we got the basics sorted.

In comparison when we first came down we had a squad that underperformed in the championship, they were similar to Adkins signings. As mentioned before players who are a cut above league 1 but at championship theyve found their level and it showed. These are the players with the skill and the streetwise smarts, maybe the experience to rescue/preserve games and thats who we need to get out of this league, not 23k gates etc.

I don't really get this idea that the championship isn't as physical. I don't watch that much of it now we're not in it but from what I saw on Channel 5 it looked pretty tough.

I don't understand why players who can't play L1 would be better in the championship.

I think it's about mentality. If a player who's good at a club like Walsall or Oldham but they can't do it at the Lane it's because they're not mentally strong enough to cope with playing for a big club in front of big crowds.

Sammon played a lot better than I expected, definitely an improvment on Higdon/Davies. Egdar headed and blocked pretty much everything that came at him.

Early days but they seem like good coups by NA

Can't imagine theres any better than Edgar in this league having seen him in the flesh for the first time. Read the whole game superbly well. Pisses allover Mccarthy who we had on loan from Palace last year.
