was john street that took the hits , think theyd have noticed a bomb shaped hole in the old roof

never progress if we dont clear it and rebuild sometime, 73 year old bombs or not

I Kiosks selling street food and pulled pork burgers have been introduced and the concourse will offer a ticket office, selling home and away tickets, away travel, and memberships.

Great idea. It would be even better if there was a hole in the wall and people could buy match tickets from John St without actually having to enter the stand first.

Police barriers are in place tomorrow

WTF? Seriously? Why??

I can kind of understand (although not agree with) why they might do it for the Sheffield derby, but Chesterfield?? That is ludicrous.

They probably think this is the one time they might get to use it this season and need to justify the expense.

Thing is, if there is a genuine fear that there are unexploded WW2 bombs underneath the Kop, would it not be best to excavate and find out? I'd hate for one of them to go off while I'm stood on there. It might just ruin my day.
If you're standing there there's a good chance the Blades have already ruined your day ;)

Why should Sheffield United do anything? They don't own the ground, they lease it.

the company who owns the freehold should pay...
:)

I bet Kev has already done the sums about how much would be saved if the Kop went up, admittedly a bit more paperwork to do,

But money in the Bank

The Kop is surely the one stand long overdue to be completely rebuilt?

It's a massive job, and I know there is never a "right time" to do this, but surely it would have made sense to do it while we have the spare capacity for the upgrade to take place? (i.e. while we are (hopefully) temporarily occupying a lower league)

Assuming they know the kop will have to be rebuilt or redeveloped at some point I just don't get the argument for waiting for promotion. As you say they will have far more problems when we start climbing the leagues and will lose out massively due to reduced attendances while work goes on if we're in a higher league.

The kop holds about 12000 which is just about the spare capacity we have at the moment in league one. Taking into account it's usually about two thirds full at the moment 8000 could easily be shifted to other parts of the ground. Now imagine we're in the Championship and doing well, average gates of 25000 could be expected with about 10,000 usually on the kop. Where are they going to put them?

If the try and do a rush job and get it done in the close season we can expect another 2nd rate stand.

It should have been done while we were down here, it was the perfect opportunity, assuming the club believes it's future is in the top two divisions that is.

Police barriers are in place tomorrow so Bramall Lane will once again resemble a war zone after the game - the Kop will be in good company!

Barriers plural? Thought it was just one down Bramall Lane?

Normally I wouldn't be too bothered, just go down Shoreham to the station, but I'm going somewhere I've not been before to watch the Bundesliga match after so it's annoying because I'll have to work out my own route rather than being able to rely on Google Maps >.<

Are the barriers in place before the match or just after? The one time last season they were up when I was there I went down Shoreham so didn't find out....

Sorry, downside of being pretty new and not from the city, I can get to and from the station to the ground, and to and from the station to the city centre but this is the first time I've tried to get anywhere but the station after a match so I'm fretting, probably needlessly when the one thing there won't be a shortage of is people to ask for directions!

How about improving the facilities on the kop, you know that stand that requires the most improvement.

Looks like owts good enough for us. Hope they've sorted out the Tannoy system or whatever it's called

Where are you from pal ? Why the Blades ?

"pal"?

& white rosie, if you'd like some navigation advice, where are you going to watch the German football?

If I can't I'm sure there are many people here who can help you with directions!

It would have to be a rush job, can't see us spending say five years in the third division.

Ah well, its them fuckers who are causing all the consternation about bombs under the Kop today

Works both ways, fella. Read about a German lorry driver who recently got blown up by an unstable old WW2 bomb. Both countries still struggle with finding them in the ground.

Joking aside, quite a sombre reminder of an awful part of history.

I avoid the Kop leg room issue by standing at the back. Works a treat.

Don't see the need for any "facilities" in a football ground except for somewhere to piss and somewhere to get a drink or a bit of snap.

I've been to the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. You pick your 2 pint glass of beer up on the way in to the stand. can pop out during halftime and get a fresh one. It was 9 Euros and you got 1 Euro back if you returned the "glass"

I sit on the kop. I've got a seat and a view. And somewhere to smoke my fag at half time. Tick.

I couldn't give a fuck about anything else.

:)

There aren't any views on the Kop apart from bad ones! Needs knocking down and building again, absolutely nothing else will suffice.

Mine's fine thanks. Knocking it down would be a complete waste of £10M

If had a two pint glass of beer I'd never be out of the toilets and if every body did it would be like a Mexican wave all way through the match, in more ways than one....
Isn't there a plan to build flats with the Kop on top kicking about ?.

Bristol City have transformed Ashton Gate in the space of 6 months. We looked at a three sided ground in February, they've since built a new stand, renovated a second and already knocked down a third.

Wish we could do something similar, redo the Kop, even win the league...

They're horrible, Sandy. Unless you drink really fast they start to go warm and warm lager is foul. So you either end up bladdered or drinking piss.
