Quite simply.

If only we had been ruthless and trusted video footage of every game of last season, coupled with a pro-active board advising the manager on our failings and the areas where every man and his dog could see needed improving. Watching the footage would have just confirmed to the man in charge what the board told him was spot on and at that point we could have began to start the process of shipping out and re-building.

But no, let's ignore all the footage and distrust what every single blade has been saying for the past 10 months and let's spend week after week assessing the bollocks we all know we have before it finally becomes apparent to the manager at the first game when it's too late that in fact the fans were right, and what we have is truly as shit as last season proved.

We really do never learn.

And we truly are ruined. Point of no return has passed. Into the abyss we go. Sack the board, sack the manager and sack the players.

I'd not expect the manager to take player advice from a Board, especially not our Board.

I would expect him to speak to the coaching staff and couple their recommendation with the footage he's seen. I'd also expect him to speak to the local media and fans representatives as well. Get an all round picture.

The clear out should have started in the summer and I agree that wiping the slate clean and giving players a chance was a mistake and now we have big problems defensively.
There is a lot of work to do now before the transfer window shuts in 3 weeks, maybe too much.

Not that it needs an all round picture.

But come on, are you telling me the board weren't well aware of our failings last season? They either were and they didn't act on it or weren't, which is quite simply idiocy given the fact they are running the club. Mind you it is Sheffield United I suppose.

Well if Adkins needed proof of our failings then he got it Saturday.

A decent pre-season masked the problems.

Nope, of course they would, but I'm just uncomfortable about any manager taking football advice from their Board.

If it's the right advice such as this case then long may it continue for me.

The 'if' is the big problem for a new manager. Let's be honest, a Board is going to have their own agenda and hardly recommend signing lots of players which will cost them money.

Isn't it in their own interests though? What's the point in shying away from buying players when your the one who is going to suffer from it? I doubt they'd do that to be fair but you never know with this board.

If it makes you feel special to get a few likes on a post then go ahead and try harder, not like your desperation hasn't already shone through.
What makes you think I care about people liking my posts? People like you have turned this forum into a negative space. I'm just doing what I can to ridicule the ridiculous.

Funny how you haven't said a word to in anyway challenge my original post. Yet you say things like that.

Deary me fella.

You can take post #17 has my response.

And to add to that...

The Gillingham game was one game. There are 45 more league games to play. It was dreadful, it really really was dreadful. But if you truly are writing our season off after 90 out of 4,140 minutes of football then you should really stay at home.

I didn't know you were desperate Tarq's? Can't say I've ever considered you a desperate chap, but you know how easy it is to start a rumour without any backup.

I'm definitely not giving you a like, it might add weight to the idea that you are desperate for approval.

Have a like.

Arsenal are bottom of the Premier League. Sack their board!
Arsenal and the Blades will both finish top 2 or 3 of their respective leagues.

Right ho...

So,

Last season everybody wanted Collins back in who was "unfairly treated". When Howard and Turner put in some poor performances people wanted Long recalled from Motherwell.

Adkins has granted the wishes and now we are doomed? Is that what's happened?

Gawd! If Adkins is a "courting popularity by granting wishes"-type manager then we really are doomed!

He's got off to a very poor start. No harm in acknowledging that.

But the signing of Edgar (so long as it isn't a "granting wishes" signing...) is a big move towards overcoming that poor start.
Need some more positive moves now to restore the rattled faith & for Adkins to prove to us (in the real world of Sheffield United's actual circumstances) how good he really is.

Gillingham, including the preparation for it, was truly awful but in no way unforgiveable.

I blame it on the Facebook culture.

If we had beaten Gillingham on Saturday then we'd be dead certs to win the league.
Some would be complaining that Murphy and Adams need to their wages doubling immediately otherwise they'll lie sold by Christmas.

However we lose one and all of a sudden it's relegation here we come and most of the players need selling.

It's a long long season ahead and it's how the club react to challenges that will determine our success.
