Finally confirmed on OS........

United have sealed the signing of former Academy striker Billy Sharp from Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee.

Sharp, 21, has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal to become the Blades' first summer signing, whilst another Blades Academy product, Jonathan Forte, has moved in the opposite direction as part of the package.

The signing of Sharp is a big coup for United as the in-demand goalscorer opted to re-join the Club he left in August 2005. He becomes Bryan Robson's first signing as Blades boss.

He said: "I'm delighted to get Billy back here. He's a Sheffield United fan through and through and he has a great desire and love for the Club - that's exactly the sort of thing I want at this place.

"He's had a terrific scoring record since becoming a regular and we need more goals than we have had in the last couple of seasons."

Sharp left Bramall Lane for Glanford Park two summers ago as he took the opportunity of first-team football with Scunthorpe, despite the offer of a three-year contract from the Blades.

Sharp scored 24 goals in his first season with The Iron and bettered that during the 2006/07 campaign by bagging another 32 to help Scunthorpe to the League One title.

Forte, who turns 21 later this month, has signed a three-year deal with Scunthorpe.

Following the Blades' promotion to the Barclays Premiership last season, Forte had two loan spells at Doncaster Rovers where he made 50 appearances in total, scoring nine goals

Ron Reids comments on Billy from the OS........

Academy Football Manager Ron Reid believes that Billy Sharp has time on his side to make his mark with the Blades.

Reid oversaw Sharp's rise through the Blades Academy system before the striker departed Bramall Lane for Scunthorpe United in August 2005.

Sharp, 21, was reunited with Reid at United's training ground on Thursday morning, having completed his return from The Iron for an undisclosed fee earlier this week.

Reid said: "I'm very happy - it's great to see Billy back where he belongs. To say I was heartbroken when Billy left the club is a little bit extreme, but I was I was very disappointed.

"Billy's proved what a good player he is, unfortunately it wasn't at Sheffield United. Nevertheless, he's 'home' now, and I'm certain he'll continue in that vein, scoring goals."

He added: "Billy and I kept in touch almost weekly, or every other week - he would tell me about the goals he scored."

Sharp's former Academy manager is sure that the striker will continue to progress. The Sheffield-born forward scored 56 goals in 95 appearances for Scunthorpe during his two seasons at Glanford Park.

Reid continued: "The best of Billy is yet to come - 21 is no age for a goalscorer. To be consistently at the top of the scoring charts was no flash in the pan.

"He's very much a box player who has the knack of being in the right place at the right time. He reminds me a bit of Gerd Muller - with that low centre of gravity, he turns defenders ever so well."

He added: "Billy Sharp will be a household name in Sheffield - that's my feeling."

Billy continued: "I spoke to Sheffield Wednesday because of Brian Laws, really. He's a good manager and I thought I needed to speak to him, but I'm a Sheffield United fan and I don't really like Wednesday."

brilliant qoute :D
