I forgot the game was even on. Popped down to the club shop to buy a shirt, though about going, but then took one look at the queue and thought 'fuck that'. Almost went in the away end instead since the queue for that on Bramall lane was only two people long.

How long did other people wait? looked like it was out of the Car Park. Not a good performance from the organisers.

Are Higdon and Howard injured?

Higdon was but it's all been very quiet about Howard, will he be fit for the first league game ?

A few random thoughts:

First 2 or 3 minutes didn't touch the ball at all as Newcastle played it across the back, through the middle, into the box and hit the post/bar. Great move. They didn't really repeat it though.

We played some good football at times.

Collins is not Franz Beckenbauer and got into trouble a couple of times at least carrying it out from the back.

Adams looked at home. Direct and powerful - not awed by the opposition.

Baxter seemed to think this was more of an appropriate opposition for his talent, but got complacent and gave the ball away a couple of times.

Long didn't dominate his box.

Woolford had a bad game :-(

Sammon had some very good touches setting others up.

Conceded a soft goal from a corner.

McNulty still loses possession too easily and could work more off the ball - but confident he would score when through, and he did.

McEveley cleaning up behind Collins might work. He seems to have been singled out as a captain.

Great goal from Freeman.

Slicing them open for the first was pretty good as well.

Murphy was dangerous but then went off injured.

Finished with Morgan and K Wallace at CH!

Reed nipped in and won the ball a couple of times. Looked better than he did at the end of last season.

It was a friendly - so take all the above with a pinch of salt.

Like most of us looking forward to the next season. We've got a great board and manager.

Looks like there'll be some exciting, entertaining, and high(ish) scoring games with more focus on outscoring the opposition than outdefending them.

I was very impressed with the performance especially the positive intent and attacking football!! Some points from the game:

  • I actually though we had more of the game and the chances than them and were unlucky not to win the game, especially with Sammon being rugby tackled to the ground when he was clean through in the last minute.
  • McEverley was excellent and looked a totally different player to the back end of last season.
  • Che and Murphy were superb and cut them open on quite a few occasions.
  • Long has benefited from going out on loan.
  • Basham won everything and was generally very good n the middle of the park and Baxter looked a yard quicker and is obviously a lot fitter.
  • Freeman has a SWEEEEEEEEEEET volley. What a hit lad!
  • Morgs hasn't lost hit though he's shit at free kicks.

King Nigel II 's positivity is really rubbing off on me (But unfortunately not on the twats sat moaning all game in front of me.

Their first goal was gift from a back pass. Their player looked well off side leading up to the corner from which they scored. An enjoyable game, which deserved a bigger crowd.

It was raining heavily, wasn't it? That would have kept many away. Still, 12k is not bad for a friendly

Great to see a ref with a sense of humour!

Unfortunately missed the match due to being in Whitby on a trip with the family. Was pleasantly surprised to see the result flash up on my phone though.

It was raining even heavier when we got back to Sheffield at about half seven. Absolutely siling it down. We typical Brits, always talking about the weather! :D
