If Jose Baxter had the work rate Nick Montgonery had, he would be a premier league footballer.

Monty was the single most polarising footballer in recent blades history, and IMO a player who we have not managed to replace since he left.

replace monty! half the able bodied population could replace monty! come to think of it maybe some of the non able bodied to

Monty was a strange breed, one who couldn't pass water and received no end of grief from me, but in the Premiership season he put in some excellent defensive performances, and as everyone says he always put in maximum effort. Ultimately not a great footballer but did a good job for us, showed passion and loyalty, more than you get from most footballers these days. He was no play maker, but I strangely miss the bloke being part of our midfield. Doing well in Aus now, and as someone mentioned earlier I hope he plays a part in Morgs' testimonial.

Good if you told him to follow someone around all game and not let them have the ball, terrible at passing and shooting. Did a job in the Premier League but not necessary outside of it. I never disliked it liked him particularly and like Doyle don't buy into the "great servant" bullshit as we were paying him a hell of a lot for such a limited player.

Brother-in-law is in Oz.

He knows "someone" at the lane who happily passed on Monty's email address.

He got in touch to say he was in Sydney and was hoping to get tickets for the Sydney vs CCM game. Monty replied and said the tickets would be at the stadium waiting.

He turned up at the stadium and Monty handed him the tickets in person and said they had been paid for.

He also asked him to join him for a drink in the bar after the game.

He's a great bloke by all accounts and actually did very well for us in the Prem.

Agreed. We lack a shadow-chaser for the opposition to run rings round like a training cone. We desperately need someone to temporarily deprive the opposition of the ball, until they restart with a throw-in, corner, free-kick on the edge of the box or, not infrequently, a penalty kick. Further, we must recruit someone who can't trap a bag of cement, who has the turning circle of a tortoise wearing blinkers and whose passes give rise to a raffle as to which opposition player gets the next touch.

Yes, on reflection, we certainly haven't replaced Monty.....

couldnt agree more . why would we want another player who cant play football? people really do confuse me at times .

The lad played 6 decent games in prem, when we slid around in deep mid winter sludge, apart from that he were a waste of time, and his dismantling of our season at villa away was the single worst performance by a Blades player i`ve ever seen... well after Derek Richardson and Lee Baxter of course, Monty topped off that gash of a performance by fouling himself near the end of the first half and having to trudge off, and then warnock picked him for wigan, oops!. apart from being utter shit he was brilliant.

When you start out playing an odd-job, attacking midfield role on the right, and then get moved to a job of stopping the opposition knocking it about midfield by kicking them a lot,
....and when you win a tackle and get the ball, but a safe back pass to defender would result in a bollocking from your boss, not least because they've got the ball skills of Mrs Mills,
....and when you want to get rid to a team mate there's no-one within 20 yards of you cos they've fucked off up the park to cower behind full backs, or mess up the central defenders cos their football skills are similar to Jimmy Clitheroe's and Jona Lomu's,
....and when the only thing you can do is turn and launch it somewhere in the general direction of other team mates that aren't on the pitch in the first place because of silky Brazilian or Spanish skills,

....it really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that he didn't quite meet the standards of Alexander Pirlo.

Let's face it, at no time in his career was he surrounded with Ronaldinhos, Zidanes, Messis or Beckenbauers, with instructions from Pep Scolariola-Ancelocini to play exhibition, piggy-in-the-middle, tikka-takka, show-off football.

Fouling himself?

Oh yes, the dislocated shoulder that required 8 pins in the summer. Do you think your performance against a decent Premier League team might have been a little on the 'gash' side if you'd had a dislocated shoulder?

Oh and by the way, have all the Monty knockers forgotten the Preston home leg in the 2009 playoffs? He was absolutely immense and almost won the game single handed. He won everything and PNE couldn't get near him. He was aslo one of the few that turned up at Wemberlee against Burnley.

Not sure how many people's grannys he must have shagged to earn such vitriol. A great servant to us during hard times and we haven't exactly gone on to better things since he left, have we?

Only here at good old 20th Century S2 would he be anything but a laughing stock.

We not only tolerate mediocrity; we celebrate it.

Bladey, Bladey, Bladey Blades....

So it's the scouts and boards fault then that Monty wasn't the best:)

Well we are in for Sharp. Let's get Monty back as well.

Sorry but despite being a nice guy doesn't mean you can overlook his skills as a footballer. It says it all when people think that we are missing him in midfield and wonder why we are in League 1.

Anyone remember this "kop classic"?
