Hey - at least we're not like Coventry

Man City had a fine team in the early 7o's - Bell, Marsh, Summerbee, Lee etc; though United fans hated Marsh after he was instrumental in breaking Tom McAlister's leg in 1973.
Then Denis Law put the ball in the net whilst everyone else was waving on the stretcher ( Blades 0 - 1 Man City )

Law's goal was an equaliser. Bill Dearden gave us the lead but his own goal made it 2-1 to them. The first time Woody conceded a goal in his several emergency keeper stints

I liked this Michael McIntyre sketch

Adminsitration, crisis after crisis. I mean, just imagine the stupidity of a professional football club not owning their own ground and being totally at the beck and call of landlords who can impose such disgusting terms on the lease. It really beggars belief that historical institutions like the local football club can get themselves into situations like this - shit team, shit future and no freehold.

(PS - do not mention Man City to me!! - Totally different kettle of fish).

I think someone on RS once said they must be the worst team to support.

I've always admired Silent's memory when recalling specific incidents from matches that I'd long since forgotten.

But to "remember" to come back to a thread after more than 2 years . . . . . Bloody hell.

He is our very own Cyril Heslop from Porridge.

Ha ha, it wasnt like that. I was looking at websites which contained match reports newspaper cuttings, photos etc such as http://www.bounder.friardale.co.uk/index.htm , http://www.mightyleeds.co.uk/ , http://www.lfchistory.net/ so today I found this report of the Man City game and I used this forum search match to find a thread or a posting about Marsh breaking McAlister's leg so I could have replied to a different thread!

To be fair there are so many reasons to be glad not to be like Coventry. The team, the place, the accent, the surrounding area.....

Nice people, in my experience. Bit of a shit town but Hitler and the 60's planners had a lot to do with that. Not unlike Sheffield, come to think of it, but without the dramatic hills and majestic towers.
