Would probably played him as centre forward
Would have been better than Higdon

He failed miserably because everybody and the dog knew he was off.I don't think it was the sale itself mate that cost us promotion, it was the fault of the management team and scouting department in not replacing Maguire with a more than adequate player for League one, we failed miserably in this. Admittedly he tried (Butler, McGahey spring to mind) but ultimately he failed no matter what happened or how you look at it.
You, Sir, should have been our manager last season! He failed miserably because everybody and the dog knew he was off.
Why does a player refuse to sign a revised contract when offered to him?
What the feck was Chuff playing at with all his idiotic brinkmanship BS.
He even mentioned it in his post Swindon play off interview.
FFS let it go!
Sometimes you have to just move on, get on with it and get a replacement lined up.
It is been played out again with Sterling at Liverpool and De Goa at Munure.
Who thinks Van Gaal will try play him De Goa in a pre season match and then use him as a excuse in May.
Chuff was like a dick never getting over losing a bit of tit and bum.
Yes mate, i'm not disputing we missed him terribly on reflection, but i do think we should have done more to get the situation at the back sorted. Him and Colins formed a great partnership in League one and what we wouldn't give for that sort of partnership next season. However, if the attacking part of our game was also sorted a lot better and earlier we wouldn't have had to worry too much about the backline. It was all a bit mish mash in the end and really poor scouting in general.

I seriously doubt that Harry Maguire has made enough from the game to never have to work again.
I posted at the time of his sale, how we would miss HM's aerial threat at corners.
He was getting about 8 league goals a season a similar record to one Jack Charlton.
What was our set play/goal ratio under NN?
5, 10, or 15%. When the league average is nearly 30%
The phrase 'Utterly clueless' springs to mind.
The failure to replace a CB defensively who also offers a threat offensively was just so blindingly obvious.
Let's say he's on £6 a week.
6000x52x3=£936,000 over the contract term.
£10 wages?
10000x52x3=£156000 total earnings.
Even taking tax etc and accountants fees plus the fact he'll have been on decent brass at BDTBL and assuming he's had decent investment advice including a pension then I'd like to have been a quid behind after a 40 year working life rather 5 or 6 years.
If he isn't set for life now then he's a fool. I don't think he is a fool.
Of course we all have different parameters regarding what we need to be comfortable without ostentation so horses for courses I reckon.
One things for sure - he should never be destitute.
Good luck to the lad any road up.
If the motivation was a prem dream then he fucked up
3 sub appearances does not really constitute a dream of playing in the prem though BOS. Not sure anyone dreams of sitting on a bench hoping to get on for a few mins and believe they have made it.No he didn't.
He played more games in the Premiership than about 99% of professional footballers who had the same dream.

I have a strong suspicion he will play more prem games in the future but to think he was going to displace the set of CB that Hull had at the time? He was always going to be a development player for them and if that's the case why waste a season when he could have played 50-60 more competitive games and made the move this close season for a larger fee and a greater signing on fee. I just think it was a series of misjudgements all round. H, his agent, Clough getting bitter and not getting on with replacing him.
Can't say he's learned that much from a relly scrap at Wigan for a few games. That doesn't constitute much development IMO.
Don't see Hull being a force in champ this coming season despite para payments, either think they might struggle as rats leave the sinking ship - so where does that leave him?
Pondering what he can do to spend his leisure time away from Hull is all I can think of.
He's not wasted a year. He's spent a year training with players like Curtis Davies and Dawson instead of Collins and McEv. He's secured a contract which will give him a reasonable level of financial security, irrespective of injuries.3 sub appearances does not really constitute a dream of playing in the prem though BOS. He could have picked up an injury like Diego this season and found himself out for a year and never as good again.
Can't understand the people wanting him to fail. Very Sheffield. Blokes not been advised badly at all, he has taken a chance on playing in the Premier League over League One. It really is as simple as that. Perhaps he felt the standard of player he would play against was going to be better. My understanding is in the few games he played he did well enough and he was a good player at WIgan, both higher standards than he would play against Fleetwood and Orient etc.
Next season he has a chance to play in their first team or be loaned out to a Championship team, once more at a higher level than he would be with us. His career will advance better playing at a higher level even now. He is only young and if he plays in the Championship for the rest of his career he can probably pull between £10-£15k per week (plus bonus and inflationary rises future transfer cuts etc).
Harry isn't going to be a poor man and he is going to make a nice living for himself all things being equal. Leaving Sheffield United will hurt him far less than it hurt us.
No, he was only leaving because Clough was such a twat. He's going to sign a new contract any day now.Yeah but Europes elite are about to snap up Diego aren't they? Or did I miss something?
Ultimately we always fail to replace our sold players whoever you blame for it. Conclusion: don't sell your best playersI don't think it was the sale itself mate that cost us promotion, it was the fault of the management team and scouting department in not replacing Maguire with a more than adequate player for League one, we failed miserably in this. It should be easier to get an adequate League one defender though for the fee we got for HM, otherwise i'd agree with you. If you sell your best players you will tend to struggle a lot, unless you replace them with similar or better which we don't seem able to do, hopefully Adkins can rectify this somewhat.Ultimately we always fail to replace our sold players whoever you blame for it. Conclusion: don't sell your best players
If the motivation was a prem dream then he fucked up
If the motivation was a larger wedge then he will have gained short term but might have fucked up mid term (relegation clause in Hull contracts)
The gaping hole that was left in our CB slot was fucked up
The lack of a decent replacement over the whole league season was a major fuck up
Our ability to defend set plays - fucked up
Our capability to score from attacking set plays - fucked up
The bitterness Clough had over the whole event was fucked up
Situation FUBAR
Cock
I was trying to be facetious but it seems it's true. For the record, I don't think Clough is a twat. No, he was only leaving because Clough was such a twat. He's going to sign a new contract any day now.

I did say in the post directly above yours that I was being facetious. And yes, I do suspect that his options have narrowed somewhat. Wasn't it him who insisted on going out on loan? Might have been better not doing and scoring a few for the u-21s.or is he due to sign becuase NONE of these teams that were supposidly in for him have materialised.... (he shit on York who had been "fantastic to him"(his words) to get a move to Northamton... where he scored as many goals as I have.....
if you had Juve calling.... and had aspirations of being in the Italy squad... would you stick around at your present club just becuase there was a management change....
