Not that i'm the slightest bit impatient, just wondered when you think the new signings will begin to arrive, and will it be too late?:)

Give him chance to see the present squad first. I'm sure he can make them play differently so they all need to be given a chance.

I would hope he's spent the last week or so watching DVDs of last season. He knows where we're lacking and will doubtless have a few in mind regardless of what we already have but yep, a bit awkward for him until the squad get back which isn't for a few weeks yet.

I'm more encouraged with the lack of signings to be honest.

If a new Manager came in and signed players before judging what he has, it would destroy the morale of the players. Not to mention go through the process of again gelling new players in etc. I anticipate all the players will be given a fair chance, without prejudice, to stake a claim as a Sheffield United player.

We have some talent in our side which I believe could flourish under NA, namely Cuvelier, Coutts, McNulty, JCR and Reed. Not to mention Khan, Calvert-Lewin and Dimaio.

Nearly all contracts for players run up to the end of June. So even those who have appeared on released lists are still contracted until then. There is a hit list I've no doubt of who he wants, probably broken down to 'essential', 'useful' and 'desirable'. No news doesn't mean nowts happening!

Thursday.
02rd July.
11.45am.

First friendly is 18th of July. Will he wait until then to decide what we need?

I doubt it Bergs. There are glaring gaps in the squad, watching them play isn't going to shed any light on that too much. He'll go for at least one CB, probably a holding midfielder and a forward. Recruitment after that may be left for later in the window.

I do hope the holding midfielder is allowed to let go of whatever it is he is holding, from time to time, so that he can join in the game....

'Tis merely a tag, rather than literal descriptive of the role (I hope). Full-back, but they still get forward. Centre-back, but they do move forward, left and right. The best at that midfield role, understand the shape of the team and fill-in accordingly and get the odd goal (Makele was supreme at the filling in stuff).

Too late is when the fax machine breaks at about 22.59.59 on 01 September.

Transfer market never gets into full swing until early July generally. Just pre contract stuff at this stage so I wouldn't sit there staring at the computer waiting for anything.

He's yet to see the squad, most footballers are on holiday, clubs are hiring and firing managers.....until people get back to clubs you won't see a lot happening.

I think patience is the key at this stage. NA will adopt a methodical approach and give himself a chance to properly judge the players already at BDTBL. It will make a change from the 'scatter-gun' approach of NC who, almost 2 years into his tenure, 'still wasn't sure of his best eleven'.

Not just watching DVDs Jim. Given he's been out of work for a while I'd expect him to have watched a lot of football. Most managers are aware of what's happening at other clubs (I've heard many stories about various managers who know about almost every player in the league, their strengths and weaknesses) so I imagine he already had a few ideas about what was needed before he even joined us.

On top of that, he's undoubtedly got plenty of contacts in the game that he'll have been talking to.

Deadly , same here . Adkins will be re assessing all the squad , and may well be pleasantly surprised with some of the potential we have already got . The existing players instilled with new confidence and belief , could well be like new signings already on the books.

He will know ( like we do ) , were we do need strengthening, and will be going , not for second best , but top quality signings or season long loans. The guy will work on the foundations already there , with incoming class players.

I think some of last season donkeys could turn out thoroughbreds this season. Hope so.

Its not if we sign top notch players , it is now when , but patience is a virtue.

If we are not top of the league after 10 games i will be producing Adkins out campaigns where you will be required to take your shoes off in the car park, if you want to join me.
I'm shaving my head and putting two stone on in anticipation.

He doesn't need to wait for the squad to return to know he needs to bring in at least one CB, and it wouldn't unsettle any players already here as our current CBs are one rookie, one (unfortunately) crocked with limited experience and one who has been frozen out of the first team for months.

Midfield and forwards can wait. As much as I'd like to see us bring in a talismanic goal-every-other-game forward and a goal scoring midfielder, I think there are plenty of goals in Done, McNulty, Adams, Murphy, Scougall and others if they can play with enough freedom and confidence.

Judge us after 10 games

That's bollocks in this case, new manager joining close season.
10 games (plus pre season) Adkins may know enough to judge the players he has.
My one hope is he knows about the centre half disaster.
That's a must for a good start. (And I don't mean top 2)

I think it was a jab at those who kept saying 'judge us after 10 games/at Christmas/throughout February/after another pre season last year when it was clear from the off the automatic promotion was never a possibility.

Don't forget the "things will be better from April on hard pitches" I seem to recall at least one person saying (Silent Blade ?)
