Is it true Adkins was first choice before Nigel Clough

Adkins has been McCabe's number 1 choice for some time.

I wonder if it was purely down to McCabe that Clough got the boot because he wanted to get Adkins in while he was still out of work.

Would that have been before the Prince came on board? When we got Weir? The word on the message boards was that no-one would touch us. So is it a reflection of our improved status and financial clout since the Prince got involved, or a reflection of Adkins lowering his ambition?

2 years ago it was Wier getting appointed not Clough. I don't think Mccabe would deliberately say something to belittle Clough in public so soon after his sacking.
