He does not need to do too much.

A few centre halves, a midfielder and another striker.

Howard
Freeman, New CB, New CB, Harris
Flynn, New CM, Basham, Murphy
Done, Adams

No need to totally rip up the squad but just address the issue Clough didn't.
I do think Adkins will replace Flynn. He's not consistent enough. Not enough assists and goals. He may get him going but if not I think it'll be one of the first positions he'll address

Aye, i like flynny, but I don't think a team challenging for the title can have him in it. Also have my doubts about Harris after his shocking last few months of the season.

With a good, solid pre-season, James Wallace will be like a new signing next season. He is a top quality L1/Championship midfielder. And with Adkins being a physio too, hopefully he will keep him fit!:D

Same goes for Paul Coutts. If he can get fully match fit he'll be our best CM. We could, fitness permitting, be very strong in that department.

Yes. Sub:Adams.

I like Che. I really do. He could be special for us. I really don't think he'll be a regular starter as soon as next season though.
I think he could be a revelation for us next season if NA likes the look of him and starts him regularly.
Looks the real deal to me.

Adams in for Flynn and a proven striker alongside Done. More goals!

Paul Coutts? Best CM?

Indeed. He was captain of PNE at Championship level and rated very highly there. He hasn't lost any ability, just fitness levels. It all depends on the latter. He gave the odd cameo of what he was capable of (e.g. Barnsley). If he can play to that level consistently, Yes, he'll be our best midfielder. I'm afraid I've yet to join the "Louis Reed is better than Currie" club.

We need to be firing on all cylinders next season. "Giving the kids a run" will have to wait. I think young Che is our most exciting prospect but he's still raw at this stage. I want someone a bit closer to the finished article to play alongside Matty Done. Then watch the goals flow...

Has anyone said Reed is better than Currie?

Just never seen it if mentioned?

Not having a go, just wondering?

I agree with you on Reed, i personally think he's slightly over-rated and not really big enough or strong enough for this league, i would think he suits less physical football so a loan move could be better for him. I do wonder where we would be now though if Clough gave that amount of game time he did with Reed to Adams.

With Adams, I suppose he is only 18 years old (correct me if i'm wrong), and it will depend on whether he himself is ready for regular starts and also what NA thinks of him. I personally wouldn't be at all surprised if he was an absolute wonder player with 20 + goals and had premier league clubs sniffing around him come the end of the season.. lots of young players are coming through earlier and earlier these days and he certainly looked ready from some of his performances off the bench last season.

I thought it was common knowledge that Reed is better than Currie. :)

Yes mate. Woodwardfan. I like young Reed. Nothing against him at all, just think he's got a lot to learn...I hope he thinks the same.

Nice one Pinchy. I think I was drawn in to make a comparison and my point is "Age for age" - we never saw Currie at just turned 17. We rarely see any players play even the odd game at just turned 17. Reed now has 30'odd games under his belt and looked most comfortable against Premier League opposition. He is an England International already, we haven't had too many of those in truth.

Let's all relish the opportunity to watch the lad develop and perhaps take a bit of pressure off the lad. Encourage rather than criticise at least until he is an adult!!

Lovely footballer.

Here is your shopping list Nige-
2 x big strong centre halves
1 Midfield playmaker
2 x Strikers,both 20 plus a season
1 if not 2 good keepers
2 x good full backs (until the beard is back)
Well basically a new team :)

And if you can find it, some gold beans, Messi and the ability to walk on water.............

Still not seen the words quoted "Louis Reed is better than Currie" ?

Did anyone state this?

Not sure anyone ever did state that on here. They may have said he could be better than Currie in the future but who knows?

When i saw him at the lane on many occasions he was dreadful every single time, never committed 100% to any tackles.

I agree mate, but that, and a certain lack of confidence, can all be down to fitness. Coutts has played almost his entire career at Championship level - good clubs too - Derby, Preston and Pboro and, I believe, first-choice and very well thought of at all of them. Since then he's had a serious knock which has set him back badly. I'm not saying the PC we saw last season is our best midfielder, simply saying that the player who seemingly performed with distinction over several seasons at a league higher than us, if back to that form, would be in with a great shout for that accolade. Personally, I hope he, Wallace and Bash are all fully fit and firing. If so, we'll have the best CM in the league. They're all six-footers as well. Lots of 'ifs' I accept.

Lovely footballer.

Not latterly, he wasn't. Sorry.

Woody, I wish Reedy well but going overboard does him no good. TC was 17 when he played for Watford and only 18 when starring for us in Division One. Age for age, inch for inch. Hair for hair, whatever measure you choose, Currie was miles and miles ahead. It's not even close and it does Reedy no favours....

Woody said that, age for age, Reed was better than Currie at aged 17. He's entitled to that opinion. I say it's bonkers.
