Karl Robinson

The rumour going round the pub this evening was that Robinson is leaving MK. He will leave after his contract expires as he feels he's taken from as far as he can and also to move nearer to his family wether this means a job with us I don't know. Looking at MK Dons squad I would tend to agree. Is there really anyone we would be desperate to sign? MK Dons used the loan market effectively last year but I think they will struggle next season and maybe Robinson knows this? They will struggle to get loans from championship teams from this season and obviously taking premiership players on loan costs a lot more.

The pub in which Winkelman, Robinson, and the MK Dons players drink in, or some random pub in Sheffield with absolutely no connection with officials at Bramall Lane or MK Dons?
a pub in stockport. The point I was making was do you look at that squad and think they are going to set the Championship alight? as i said it was a rumour but i was just giving a reason Robinson may want to leave ?

Never believe what is written in the papers was what my old Dad told me. However, Robinson, and MKD have made rather convincing denials about a possible move to the Blades.
Bluff, bluff and counter bluff. Were the Board really stupid enough to sack Clough without a replacement waiting to warm the chair? Could it have been a spur of the moment decision, to part company with a manager whom IMO is far better than the names being bandied around to replace him?

Interesting that anyone in Stockport would be interested in this - apart from ex-pat Blades obviously. The logic may be sound re the MK Dons current squad, so I take your point on that, but equally I'm sure they won't be planning to stand-still in that respect.

Robinson/Winkelman will have a plan, even with an expiring contract coming over the horizon quickly.... and that might be the result of the slow-build method they've had to employ there.

As for rumours, well, they're rumours. Nobody really knows. I enjoy the speculation, but I'm now keen to hear/read something a bit more concrete.... I live in hope! (well, Ranmoor, but you know what I mean)....

Great reasons I think. Karl....Karl.....are you listening Karl?

The prospect of taking Sheffield United back to the Championship and beyond? Sounds attractive to me, especially if I'm manager of a tiny club with no tradition, heritage or support. Still, keep on doffing your cap. It's the Bladesfans Way.

Robinson is the man we should appoint. He has the big advantage, over Adkins, of an intimate and immediate knowledge of this league, all the clubs, all the players. It's a long time since Adkins was in League One. Robinson would have a running start. He's produced a team of fit, powerful athletes who play the game the proper way. They pass the ball and score plenty of goals. They have a mix of solidity and flair. There'll be none of that utterly futile, long discredited anti-football, Hoof.

Gerrimin. He's the best man for the job.

Rose tinted glasses springs to mind... Karl Robinson has been linked with every vacancy for ages... Sheff Utd literally offer him nothing at this moment in time.

Just to add a reply specifically to the 'but it's taken him 5 years' point...

The guy is 34. He has effectively been learning his trade on the job these past few seasons before finally cracking it this year. It's ridiculous to suggest it would take him 5 years to get us promoted. If he's appointed manager, we are getting the 34 year old Robinson, who has just taken a team to an impressive promotion. We will not be getting the 29 year old Robinson without a thing on his managerial CV.

All Robinson discussion merged.

As before, please keep all discussion in the already on-going threads.

No he hasn't. He has an excellent relationship with Winkelman.

Has Winkleman actually offered Robinson a new contract yet?...it would appear, that yet again, Robinson is weighing up his options before signing anywhere...do you think Robinson will attend an interview with SUFC to see what's on offer?

It would appear, to an outsider. that Winkleman was waiting to see whether they got promoted before offering Robinson a new contract?
If that's the case, it could bite him in the arse...if even if only to the extent that Robinson can say, "Well, this is what SUFC are offering me, would you care to match that?"

P.S- IMO I don't think think Robinson will be coming to BDTBL...but you never know, it could be the right time for Robinson/SUFC for various reasons...

You could apply that logic to Clough after his time at Derby. We were getting the older, wiser Clough.

As for "been there done that got the T-shirt" that could also be applied to Micky Adams, who was a young, up-and-coming manager with an impressive promotion record when we hired him.

Sometimes I think that previous achievements shouldn't be the defining factor when it comes to managerial appointments. There are other factors involved, not least luck.

Dkc , Luck does have a lot to do with it . As mentioned before , just look at the goal that saved Ferguson , by Robins.

We have been devoid of luck , on all things SUFC , but we have to make our own luck .

Lets hope who ever we get , ticks the box for club and fans . We've had enough of infighting.

UTB

Robinson is the man who fits the bill . Done it , been there , got the tee shirt .

And I doubt he'd fancy having to do it all over again. MK Wankers are a tinpot, plastic 'club', but they are a tinpot, plastic 'club' in the division above us. If he's thinking of moving on the Championship is a better shop window than League One.

Wake up folks and stop kidding yourselves. It will be Parkinson and we will be a third division football club for a while yet.

I agree it looks like Parkinson.

Very disappointing outcome if this turns out to be the case.

Not sure what he offers, same old, same old..........................

Should Parkinson be appointed, i would think it would be one of the most unpopular decisions amongst fans maybe barring Wilson's appointment.

Indeed. Bradford have been worse in the league than us and their Cup run, the high point of their season, wasn't as good as ours. He'd actually be a step backwards.

You could argue that Bradford are a smaller club with less funding and what Parkinson has achieved (in comparison to Clough) over the last season is far better than Clough. Parkinson also has two promotions under his belt including getting Colchester promoted to the Championship. I appreciate he struggled at Charlton but Admins(for example) struggled at Reading

Parkinson wouldn't be my first choice (I'd like to see Adkins) but I don't quite get the doom and gloom about him

Not one supporter of Parkinson on Jim Phipps' FB, and loads against.
and I bet many don't give a constructive reason why they don't want him except saying 'he is shit' or words to that effect

same old what ? He is a completely different style of manager to Clough

Why ? What is it about his management style and the way he plays football that you don't like ? He has had a couple of promotions under his belt. I can think of many worse choices (if it is Parkinson we get)

Yes, I must admit that many posts on our Co-Chairman's Facebook wall aren't the most reasonable and logical. "He is shit' would be a good summary of most anti-Parkinson posts.

I don't think we need an appointment that's going to divide the fans again. If we don't hit the ground running under Parkinson he may not last very long.

The reason why many don't like the idea of Parkinson, is that in comparison to what we had with Clough and the style of play under him, Parkinson really isn't much different, in fact in many ways plays more negative and more defensive.

Many thought that the whole reason behind the sacking of Clough was to go out and get a top manager like Adkins who is far superior to Clough in every way and is exactly the type of manager we need if we have any ambition of the championship and premiership and to get there playing attacking, attractive football.

I just think these links with Parkinson don't really show that ambition and that disappoints many, and rightly so. So it's not due to the fans not giving any reasons, just merely that they are hugely ambitious and want a top man who is superior to who we had before, and many don't think Parkinson is really that much greater than Clough in any way.

We won't meet the 'talk clause' money for Parkinson...IMO

Parkinson plays a completely different style of play to Clough. More direct and quicker. Might not be pretty at times but they do have technically good players and they create chances. Defensively, he likes centre halfs who defend rather than play football(for me there needs to be a balance)

What if Adkins doesn't want to come to us (or Warburton or Robinson) ?. We are a L1 club so we may have to pick up the scraps of what is left and we cannot insist managers to join us if they wish to manage in the top two tiers no matter how ambitious the Board are in trying to get them. The Board has to try and cover all scenarios and, within the wage budget they wish to pay, get the man who they want and is prepared to come. It would appear that some fans throw a strop because we might get Parkinson when he isn't their first choice and don't look at his record (which appears to be better than Clough's in terms of promotions)

As I said earlier,I would prefer Adkins but the Board may have no choice but to settle for a 4th/5th choice or even lower
