We all have our dark side, mate...we just need to embrace it.

Who said anything about a dark side? I must admit I was in admiration of a well trimmed hairy thigh gripped by stocking tops.
It was liberating to understand that only a man of your calibre could say to the world.....

"I am what I am,
And what I am needs no excuses,
I deal my own deck,
Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces"

There are a number of people who are moaning at the board for sacking Clough without a ready made appointment. But the question I have is this......If the meeting with Clough went as badly as it must have (for whatever the reason(s)) that the board totally lost confidence in him and his plans to rectify last season's mistakes, would we have been happy for them to allow him to plod on with his reported planned recruitment of more injury prone players from Derby etc. until such time as they had a replacement in place??? Or should they have agreed with his plans but then told him that they wouldn't allow him to sign anyone which would basically leave us in exactly the same situation - i.e. unable to sign or approach players because we either had a manager we were banning from it or didn't have a manager who could do it. I'm not sure what difference it makes other than meaning we don't have a manager for what could only be a few days.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of the board but sometimes I think we do have a tendancy to moan (not saying you have Bart, this is a generalism) without considering the alternatives.

Maybe Clough told them to shove their job?

He hasn't looked happy these last few weeks has he?

I think he might have thought the honeymoon bubble glad well and truly burst.

One day in the future he may say "I was sacked from Sheffield United." or he may not ;)

Two / three good (or bad!) examples, but I was always under the impression that Bassett preferred skill and pace over muscle (Adrian Littlejohn, Carl Veart, Andy Scott) - true, he never made another coup like Brian Deane! I always remember an interview Deano did for one of the season-review videos where he was very unhappy at being known as a target-man.
Did he say 'I'm not just a target man' I recall that phrase being used a lot at work in those days (I was fortunate to work mainly with Blades).

Something like that but I thought it was more an objection to people saying "he's just a target man" as in "he's not particularly talented, he's just a target man."

Going to far now you two what was mildly amusing is getting weird, stop it

I knew it! Underneath that clown's facade is the shrill, wide-eyed, gape of envy. From a man who's attracted to make-up, your defence is on shakey ground.

As BushBlade asks, perhaps one step away from an engorged throbber?

Yes. He was less articulate in those days.

Ken, I can add to the picture you're attempting to paint. Firstly, is the sartorial image you've described of Pinchy one that happens while you're awake or asleep? Your answer will open doors that help you and Pinchy. He's certainly articulate, but nothing like his persona on here. I've met him and found him entirely agreeable.

Maybe coming on here allows Pinchy to embrace a persona he'd otherwise ignore, but I try to remember that each of us who post here probably have an equally rounded take on life and what matters to us. As for his sense of style, I can testify that dark stockings, suspenders, and the deepest, richest rouge seemed to suit Pinchy in ways that most of us couldn't get away with. Apart from that, Pinchy is sound as a pound.

Hmmn - now I see that you are definitely not Pinchys advocate knockoff (post #476) but seemingly Pinchy's knockoff advocate ;)

I'm sure Pinchy is as sound as a pound whether his fingers are caressing a keyboard or not and I always look forward to his jolly jousts on here - because what he spouts within his jousts more often than not amuses me.
In fact I agree with a fair amount of what The Pinch spouts but I also concur with carthesis in post #474 in that it's got to be adaptable to the situation at hand. What's clear is that better players more often than not will prevail over lesser quality players IF their attitude and aptitude are spot on. But, like many other football fans the World over, I do love a good giant killing act in the cup compos and I don't really care how the "minnow" achieves it. What I am not so keen on is losing to the likes of Fleetwood and Crewe at Bramall Lane because they applied themselves better to the conditions and the opposition than we did despite the stat that we held onto the ball more and attempted to play "football" in a manner that perhaps we weren't equipped to do so.

Bless, where you thinking up that response all that time?
Joking btw.:D

Not really - I was actually doing some work - believe it or not! Then picked up again before I read all the other 'Adkins' related posts on here.
Quite a refreshing change discussing things other than the non appointment of a manager for the club we all share a passion for.

................................and absolutely no offence taken, Barners.

It takes a hell of a lot to offend me. Thick skin see - comes from watching the Blades since 1972 - although it was pretty good in the early 70s and the early 90s

I've said many times, mate. Bassett was the right man at the right time. A "necessary evil". What Bladey Blades obdurately fail to appreciate is that time has long gone, thankfully never to return. Hoof was found out a long time ago and Wimbledon are extinct.

Why do you like it so much, by the way? Do you enjoy watching the goalie repeatedly and monotonously punt the ball in the general direction of two giant but unskilled forwards, missing out midfield entirely and dispensing with any notion of passing, control or talent. Just wondering if you're a frustrated pub player?
There is no such thing as "hoof" v "not hoof". The entire football world (you aside) lives between theses extremes.

Until you move on from this, you are going to continue to pick fights with straw men.

You've only seen me from the head up how can you judge me!

Ah, i see. Quick thinking must come natural then, wish i'd had it! It is indeed very refreshing to talk of something other than desirable managers, i just hope the fans favourite for the managers job is this time actually rewarded for once, would be a nice change given the best part of our most recent appointments.

Hi Ken, I agree mate, I agree. Losing is never nice, but maybe when we talk about Fleetwood or Crewe, is there a faint whiff of "There's 12 points that's ours for the taking"? I'm not suggesting that you think this way, but we're surrounded by Premiership infrastructure, and I wonder if that sends out signals that deceive some of us? Personally I think there's an awful lot of work to be done before we're in shape to compete with those clubs who've shown the necessary desire to reach the Premiership. If, at the end of next season, we've battled and scrapped, and are promoted by way of a few ugly wins, then you won't hear me complaining. The key is to begin to introduce what is commonly referred to as a philosophy, whereby we can compete at whatever is needed, be it uncompromising tackles, balls that we win when we had no right to, or a style of football that we leave the ground praising to the rafters. Being mentally tough as well as physically tough is fundamental, so from now on in it's a clean sheet for me, whoever's appointed as our new manager I'll give him time and see how things develop.

Pinchy can explain and support his own point of view, so I suspect he'll continue with his view of football for as long as he posts on here, I'm just a bit too busy wondering where the next couple of seasons will take us? Here's hoping we'll hit the ground running, score goals, and in the process take this division by the scruff of the collar.

I'm afraid I've explained this so often, without it ever sinking in, that I'm weary of it now. One more time, in simple words. It's all about winning. Which teams win most often? The best footballing teams. The best footballing teams win games, leagues and trophies. Not the ones who can kick it longest, hardest and highest. The best teams play pass and move football. They assuredly do not play "Hoofy football". ["Gerritintbox Iniesta tha' wanker"] Proper football is winning football. Wimbledon are extinct.

Only in S2......

I despair [again...]. I'm in a state of constant despair.....

3/10.
