Self-important claptrap from a local hack reporter. They haven't a clue.
I do have reservations on reporters for radio thinking they have inside info but i do wonder if they would make it up.
I mean, it's a different story with the mirror etc.. as they aren't local and have no reason to know anything.

Especially given Andy Giddings is quite reputable and is respected by many, i just can't see him being 100% untruthful.

That, and also these rumours of KM and the prince speaking to the candidate whilst Clough was still in charge points to the fact that it can't be Karl Robinson as they would have had to ask permission as he was under contract at the time, and this would of been publicised everywhere.

Hopefully this means Adkins will get it but i wouldn't count on anything yet.

How can rumours point to a fact? The Blades have been interested in Robinson for ages now. It's an open secret. He's head and shoulders the best man for the job.

Oh, and it's would have (the irregular verb "to have") not would of (the preposition 'of' - a useful and flexible word but incapable of the meaning you ascribe to it) :)

Quite comical as you contradict yourself 14 words after making the statement 'How can rumours point to a fact'?
You then go on to say that you think he's 'head and shoulder the best man for the job'...
That's even worse as you are taking your own opinion and turning it into a fact and not going on many others peoples opinion collectively (like a rumour is).

Interesting.

Really? Where have you got that from? He's a mediocre local hack. That's why he works in local radio!

I've tried, without success, to understand that. I'll ask Hoofy Morgs. He's a clever chap.

It clearly is capable of the meaning ascribed to it, not least because, er, the meaning was ascribed to it. And furthermore said meaning was specifically (and is generally) understood.

Language: it evolves. Don't get left behind.

;-)

No, sorry. No preposition has ever become a verb. This "would of" nonsense (and nonsense it quite literally is) is a dreadful misuse of the language. Don't confuse the evolution of language with an unacceptable standard of literacy.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to accept that, in S2, there is the same contempt for the language as there is for proper football. Hoof and illiteracy: It's a good fit.

To play devil's thingy, how can Robinson be 'head and shoulders' above Adkins for example ?

You need to read the whole sentence Jim. He's head and shoulders the best man for this job at this time. As I have said elsewhere (you really should read every single word I write you know :)) his comprehensive and immediate knowledge of (and success in) the league we're desperate to get out of, is a huge and vital advantage over Adkins, who will have a standing start, having been away from the league for several years.

Please don't think I don't rate Adkins. He would be a good choice, I think, but not the best. That's Karl Robinson.

Grayson: Firstly he's not available; Secondly - he's done well at lower levels but, at heart, he's a hoofer. He'll be found out, much like 'Ol Big Nose, at higher levels. Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that your position is "contempt for language", you're being a bit harsh on yourself there.

;)

For me, the fact that Adkins has achieved 3 promotions from L1 and 1 promotion from championship
compared to Karl Robinson achieving 1 promotion from L1 after 5 years, says to me that Adkins has more
experience at this level and indeed more success.

Sometimes i think people get too focused on 'recent' achievements, i don't think it matters 'when' it happened
just that it did, i don't think many managers will forget how to achieve promotion having done it 4 times before.

Would he have been if PNE hadn't cocked up at Colchester ;)

Grayson invariably moves on or is sacked in the season following promotion and but for our ineptitude at pens, he would have one less promotion on his CV.

I take your point. As I say, I'm not against Adkins far from it. Let's just look at it this way, though:

"Right gentlemen, the season draws near, and it's vital we succeed this time. Give us your analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents for next season, please. In addition, are there any players you've spotted at this level who we might want to recruit? You first, Karl.."

Several hours later, Robinson shuts up. Adkins asks for time to think about it...

Valid point there. It's just down to which viewpoint the board have then i suppose as to who they appoint.

I would have expected Milton to win the play-offs to be honest. Of course, we'll never know. Yes, he would still be my top choice. That, of course, is contingent on the premise that it was right to sack NC. I think not, but that's now a redundant side issue - rather like Hoofball, come to think of it.

maybe that is why Morgan is still here Pinch? to give him the scoop on the teams we have played, etc.?

Presumably it took Robinson fuck loads of time to explain 5 seasons for one promotion, whilst Adkins had to take time to think of the most expedient way to explain his L1 promotions, his Championship promotions and his performances managing in the PL in a short summary?

It's a no brainer for me. Adkins all the way; far more so than Warbuton (barely over a season of management experience) or Robinson (just one promotion).

Dream team, Adkins manager and Robinson assists or visa versa

I wish people would stop slagging off our local journos. They work hard to provide local news and aren't paid much at all for it. Presumably they have a code of practice with regard to sources, and don't just "make things up" as some people imply. Giddings, Shield and co may not be "in the know" but I bet they know more than us. At the very least, they'll have the phone numbers of the likely candidates and have official and unofficial contacts at the heart of the club.

The Star and Radio Sheffield work on shoestring budgets and their employees have a thankless task, and we'd miss them if they vanished. Imagine if we had to rely on the Yorkshire Post and BBC Leeds for our news.

Lightsoot and Boss have given us more info in the last week than the Star and radio Pig in the last 10 years combined.
