Alright guys, an evertonian here. Newspaper reports and bbc online reckon he will be signing for us the weekend, so whats your opinion on your skipper? Do you think he has the ability to cut it at a big club and if so what position do you think would best suit him

Cheers

Isn't he joining Everton?

And as Rafa states, Everton don't come in to contention as a "big club"

You just love rubbing ppl up the wrong way dont you robbie?

IMO i think he has more than whats needed to "Cut it" as you say, my worry is that he will be wasted at a club like yours. No offense but i think that he needs to be somewhere that he's gonna get first team football, and not be a fringe player or on a rotational basis. He didnt miss a game for us last season, and as such performed well for the biggest part of the season.

I can understand him wanting Premiership football next season, but i think he needs to move to a team where first team football will be in his contract, rather than possibly backup etc.

As for position, he can play centre half, middle of the park and if needed in RB and probs at a push LB, although IMO i think he shone in the middle of the park.

Who is he to proclaim themselves a big club?

agreed, i work with a toffee n he drives me nuts, good lad though

but by the same account who are you to proclaim that they are not a big club??

Yes... can we learn to play nice please? There's no need to be hostile to anyone joining this forum from another team. Our registration agreement states that we welcome fans from other clubs who can contribute respectfully and we hope that the respect is reciprocated.

Anyway ToffeeBlue, a fellow evertonian enquired about Jags onTHIS THREAD... you might want a read.

Many people feel that Jags operates as a defender.. MAQ and Jags himself seem to feel that he is a midfielder :)

Suppose it depends how you utilise him as to how he will perform... should he indeed be heading up to Goodison Park.

MAQ and Jags himself seem to feel that he is a midfielder :)

my reason linz is simply that when at the back, he was either alongside davis, jags is consistent and due to davis being inconsistent performed well, when alongside morgan, they played well together, same as when he was alongside lucky.

When he was in the middle he put himself about more, spread the ball and cleaned up.

for an individual performance he produces that better in the middle IMO :D

The fact that he is constantly referred to as a utility player will probably end up holding him back. The old "jack of all trades, master of none" syndrome. I think if he played alongside an older head who controls the back four he'd be an outstanding centre-half.

for an individual performance he produces that better in the middle IMO :D

But for team performances, putting him alongside Monty in the middle just didn't work... they both play the same role - defending from the middle.

Alongside a classy forward-thinking midfielder, I think Jags would shine.

But I think his defending consistency is his main attribute I would choose to sum Jagielka up :)

Just shows how much opinions are divided I suppose.

For some reason, even before they declared an interest in him, i saw Everton coming in for Jags.

I doubt that he will be rotated in and out of the team, but can see him floating between the back and the middle; much like he has for us over the past few seasons.

The difference will be, as has already been mentioned, with better quality around him he will shine even brighter then he ever did in a blades shirt.

I wish him all the best and i will be keeping a keen eye on his progress.

He's a quality player, at centre half.

If you play him in midfield you will start to wonder why you paid 4 million for him.

And which **** put a 4 million release clause in his contract?

Let me have a guess, Pie Man Robinson?

i agree with Jack and Helga about the stigma attached to being a 'utility player'; perhaps if he'd decided to stick to one position - preferably not right back where he's rubbish - he'd have been called up to the England squad some time ago.

As a centre back, he's magnificent. As a defending midfielder, he's great. As a goalkeeper, he's pretty good. As anything else, he's a fish out of water.

And, in all fairness, I'd rather have players in our squad who were masters of one position rather than one who can fill in anywhere. That smacks of being a subsitute.

I think he would be a good signing for Everton. I really rate Jags and think he can definitely cut it in the Premiership.

Shame it looks like he is leaving Bramall Lane, he has given us such a good service and some memorable matches too.

£4million???

thats everton getting him on the cheap!!!!

so whats your opinion on your skipper?

For 1 he isn't our skipper thats morgs - but other than that a good central defender but thats it - might strugle a bit in first team football competing for a UEFA cup spot but usually pretty solid

Well what can I say,

Who is he to proclaim themselves a big club?

You really want me to list Everton's acheivements mate? I could be here all day and you might get a bit jealous after the 1st 1 or 2 i list.
As for Rafa he wouldnt know a big club if it hit him on his big fat dumb waiter head

You must be a slow typer then

I'll do it for you mate.

League Champions
1891, 1915, 1928, 1932, 1939, 1963, 1970, 1985, 1987

(Old) Division Two Champions
1931

FA Cup Winners
1906, 1933, 1966, 1984, 1995

European Cup Winners Cup Winners
1985

I Won't mention the charity Shield as that ain't really anything to be fair.

So amount of trophies/titles (of any league) is 15, and you was founded in 1888 I believe. So stretching to a 119 year history. White works out at say one trophy every 9 years, which for a "big" club ain't very good.

Which makes us the 4th best in the land mate, add to the fact we have the longest run in the top flight, 1st team to reach 100yrs, 1st team to have a double tiered stand plus if you add up all the points accumulated we came top of the last century.
I could go on but i think i have already proven my point

not really

not really

Some people wouldnt know a point if they had a hundred darts stuck in them, i suspect your 1 of them.
How about we hold the record for a player scoring the most goals in a season or the fact the same player also holds the record for most goals scored at 1 club. As i said i doubt you understand success having never seen it yourself

I've seen it mate, maybe not for my team though. But for a big club like Liverpool.

They will always be our illegitimate offspring mate and the worst 'fans' in europe. Why would you care what they do anyway, typical small club thinking
